Melrose 2 010 Melrose High School Memphis, TN Co-Sponsored by 2009 Champs and Appalachian Orthopaedics For 27 years the Arby’s Classic has provided Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia fans with a tremendous amount of exciting high school basketball each December. Many young fans do not remember a Christmas vacation without the Arby’s Classic and plenty of vacations are set to coincide with this great event. The huge success is due to the large number of volunteers. Many use their own vacation time from work to volunteer. This type of dedication has made the Arby's Classic one of the top tournaments in the country. The faculty of Tennessee High plays a major role from Tom Coates' drafting classes work on the brackets, Jerry Russell's graphic arts classes printing materials, Coach Randy Irvin setting up the dressing room schedules, and Coach Tony Adams taking care of the scorer's table. The Viking's Boys Basketball Coaches Roby Witcher, John Sproles, and Neil Phillips hang all of the banners and get the floor ready while Athletic Director Paul Pendleton takes care of security and building management. Long time volunteers Garland Chafin and Larry O'Bryant secure all the of the gate help. Ron Williams and Dan Pless take care of the back gate. Sam Witcher and "Doc" Maples make sure the hospitality room for the Arby's is the best around. Others behind the scenes are Ron Spears taking care of the sound system, Ed DePew's maintenance crew with the arena set-up, Andy Arnold and Blair Henley providing their technological assistance, and Susan Beth and Tom Coates head up the stat team. Our trainer Kelly Flanary, and Dr. Whitman and his assistants handle all of the taping and the injury problems. Chris Crockett with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes coordinates the teams breakfast. Patty Feathers takes care of all the Arby's paperwork, the halftime activities, and all of the hundreds of phone calls. The Arby's Classic has great media coverage from Bill Mead's broadcast of all 30 games to the tremendous coverage from the local newspapers. Our media room help provides information to all of the visiting teams' local news media. A special "thank you" goes to Don Shawl, CEO of Arbico East, and Diane Hughes for all their help securing sponsors. Last and certainly not least we extend our sincere appreciation to the thousands of fans that attend the tournament each year and for making the Arby's Classic one of the top attended tournaments in the nation. 1983 CHAMPION PULASKI, PULASKI, VIRGINIA Runner-Up - Irmo, SC 3rd Place - Cumberland, KY 4th Place - Elizabethton, TN 5th Place - Tennessee High, TN 6th Place - Virginia High, VA 1992 CHAMPION DOBYNS-BENNETT, KINGSPORT, TENNESSEE Runner-Up - Goodpasture Christian, TN 3rd Place - Science Hill, TN 4th Place - Albany High, GA 5th Place - Statesboro, GA 6th Place - John Ehret, LA 2001 CHAMPION LOUISVILLE BALLARD, LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY Runner-Up - Science Hill, Johnson City, TN 3rd Place - Dobyns-Bennett, Kingsport, TN 4th Place - Elizabethton, Elizabethton, TN 5th Place - East Chapel Hill , Chapel Hill, NC 6th Place - Dorsey, Los Angeles, CA 1984 CHAMPION DANIEL BOONE, GRAY, TENNESSEE Runner-Up - Pulaski, VA 3rd Place - Tennessee High, TN 4th Place - Greeneville, TN 5th Place - Elizabethton, TN 6th Place - Celina, TN 1993 CHAMPION SCIENCE HILL, TENNESSEE Runner-Up - Irmo, SC 3rd Place - Miami Northwest, FL 4th Place - Tennessee High, TN 5th Place - Daniel Boone, TN 6th Place - Lexington Dunbar, KY 2002 CHAMPION WHEELER, MARIETTA, GEORGIA Runner-Up - Mansfield Sr., Mansield, OH 3rd Place - William Boone, Orlando, FL 4th Place - Maryville, Maryville, TN 5th Place - Bartlett, Anchorage, AK 6th Place - Dobyns-Bennett, Kingsport, TN 1985 CHAMPION SULLIVAN NORTH, KINGSPORT, TENNESSEE Runner-Up - Tennessee High, TN 3rd Place - Dobyns-Bennett, TN 4th Place - Greeneville, TN 5th Place - Morristown West, TN 6th Place - Hopkinsville, KY 1994 CHAMPION WESTSIDE, GEORGIA Runner-Up - Science Hill, TN 3rd Place - Sweetwater, TN 4th Place - Hamilton, TN 5th Place - Brainerd, TN 6th Place - Kathleen, FL 2003 CHAMPION Bradley Central, TENNESSEE Runner-Up - Memphis White Station, TN 3rd Place - Baptist College, Puerto Rico 4th Place -Giles County, TN 5th Place - Archbishop Malloy, NY 6th Place - Statesboro, GA 1986 CHAMPION LOUISVILLE MALE, LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY Runner-Up - Hillcrest, SC 3rd Place - Dobyns-Bennett, TN 4th Place - Furman, SC 5th Place - Tennessee High, TN 6th Place - Greeneville, TN 1995 CHAMPION SCIENCE HILL, TENNESSEE Runner-Up - Franklin-Simpson High , KY 3rd Place - Daniel Boone, TN 4th Place - Sullivan Central, TN 5th Place - Piney Woods, MS 6th Place - Greeneville, TN 2004 CHAMPION BENJAMIN E.
