By Reading Coal Co., Jonesville, Michigan. _________________________ 1 FREE ton of coal with purchase of any Reading Coal Co. stove until October 31, 2015. 517-398-1655, 517-673-5349 The New Testament book of I Corinthians begins with the believers in Corinth being referred to as “saints”. (I Cor. 1:2) That word “saint” conjures up images in most peopleʼs minds of someone very holy and godly. However, these same believers are later labeled as “carnal” because they were envious, argumentative and divisive. (I Cor. 3:3) The rest of the book paints a very unflattering picture of these Christians. These “saints” were not very saintly. I am reminded of a newspaper ad. “Lost: One dog with brown hair and several bald spots. Hobbles on right leg due to being broken in auto accident. Left hip hurt, right eye missing, left ear bitten off in dog fight. Answers to the name LUCKY.” Hmmm! Like that dog, we might think those who say they know and follow Jesus are misnamed when referred to as “saints”. But everyone who has truly trusted Christ as Savior is a saint. The term simply means “one who is set apart”. They are the ones that the Lord has separated to Himself and is working on to mold and shape, like parents work on their kids. Every parent knows that even when kids act contrary to their upbringing, they are still in the family. Those who know the Lord do not always act “saintly”, but those who know the Lord are saints. As an old preacher said, “You are either a saint or you are an ainʼt.” Frank Snyder is Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, located on US 12 between Quincy and Coldwater, 517-639-4239, www.cbcquincy.com. 45 N. THINK ABOUT IT – You can spend a lot of money and time looking for fall beauty and nature in far corners of the world. But I have it all right here in Pure Michigan for 3 days, Oct. 21-22-23, and at an affordable price! Our personal local guides will share information and fun. There is still space, but this is the last call - Our Dean Trailways Motorcoach will leave Jonesville Wal-Mart parking lot at 8 a.m. and travel to Saginaw Valley State University to visit the beautiful Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum. Then we will have lunch at the Willow Tree Restaurant in West Branch. A visit to Sherniʼs Candies and learn about how they make their specialties will be next. We will arrive at the Thunder Bay Resort in Hillman, MI in the afternoon and have an included dinner that evening. Our accommodations are in a beautiful log lodge, and the next day will begin with a hot breakfast before heading for the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center and a tour, followed by a visit to the Besser Museum. We will then cross the river and have lunch at the John A. Lau Restaurant in Alpena. This will be followed by a visit to the Stoney Acres Winery, surrounded with the beauty of Northern Michigan. We go back to the resort and the horse drawn wagons will be taking us to the Elk Preserve where we can visit them up close and personal. Then on to the big dining lodge where our hosts cook a gourmet dinner on two old-fashioned wood stoves and tell us about the elk, the resort, and the history surrounding it. On day three, after our breakfast at the lodge, we head for home, stopping at an amish mall, a bulk food store, bakery, lunch stop, The Williams Pinconning Cheese Company and Factory Outlet, and all the beautiful scenery along the way, getting us home at a sensible hour early in the evening. All this for $455 per person, double occupancy. Call for further details, as well as single or triple rates. And remember, I donʼt send you on a vacation; I personally take you with me, and have been doing so with affordable and unique destinations for many years. Experience DOES count. For full ads & photos log on to www.michael-auctions.com At one time, I seriously thought about compiling a list of “toilets I have known.” Considering the fact I have been traveling for well over fifty years, it stands to reason I would, at one time or another, be faced with visiting a variety of such facilities – good, bad, or unbelievable. And having survived all the visits the possibility of finding humor, disbelief, and downright horror during the experiences, the idea of sharing my adventures in plumbing…or lack of…held some interest for me. You see, I have this strange sense of humor and firm belief that one may as well laugh as cry or whine, or complain. I have, as I have added to my memories, determined my collection probably would not appeal to readers or listeners or even understanding strangers with as much interest as I first thought. So any idea of a publication has been scrapped. However, it could, in a pinch, be a nice bunch of paper to have on hand in case of an emergency, such as in Red China. We were on our way to visit the newly unearthed collection of Terra Cotta Warriors, when we took a side trip to visit a zoo and see their Giant Pandas. Our Belgian driver had warned us not to use the public facilities and one whiff inside the gates explained why. Further down the road, a needed stop found a public “toilet” sign that proved to be equally disgusting. What it amounted to were two painted “footprints” on either side of a hole. A second sign instructed us to pay the attendant first and she would dump a bucket of water inside it. No money, no flush. We paid. To this day I canʼt figure out how all the ladies of the area who wore long full black pants, managed. My attire was far less cumbersome, and I gave up in favor of waiting for the train. Which, incidentally, boasted itsʼ own set of footprints and a hole that opened up on the tracks below as we went flying over them. Should you find all of this distasteful, may I just say I feel travel is a great form of education. England is far more sophisticated, but their toilet “tissueʼ has the texture of wax paper. In some countries, you bring your own or you donʼt have it. In fact, that goes for wash cloths as well. Since I continue to preach “If you want things just like home…stay home,” I still have a tendency to compare as I go. Recently, our group was treated with beautiful bathrooms and bedrooms and all the bells and whistles – many of which we did not have at home. And we loved every minute. Well, mostly. I found my beautiful granite topped sink much higher than mine at home and as a result, managed to ʻwashʼ my middle as I brushed my teeth. My bed was super comfy after I managed to climb up in it, and after testing all six of the pillows carefully arranged, I found one to my liking and could crumple and smush it into a reasonable facsimile of the one I had left at home. Letʼs face it – I am not the typical model-type used when decorators plan hotel rooms. Possibly, somewhere, there are some designed specifically for the vertically-challenged short types, but Iʼve yet to find them. But I still plan to keep up my search. I recall an inn in Germany that had the wash room two steps down from our bed, and it had been built on the short, low side. My husband hated it as he shaved on his knees so he could see in the mirror. We speculated on why it was built the way it was and after doing some checking of other rooms decided it was because they built to fit the space that was left. Should you be having second thoughts about travel after reading this, may I point out, there have been at least a thousand wonderful toilets to the few bad ones I have encountered, and letʼs face it, the getting there is part of the fun..and relief! Hair loss can result from genetics, disease or poor hair hygiene. While there's little a person can do about genetics or hair loss related to illness, good hair hygiene should be a part of everyone's beauty and grooming regimen. A good head of hair can enhance a person's appearance. Hair hygiene is important, but many do not know where to begin, and myths abound when it comes to hair care. It's time to wash away the fiction from the facts. * There is no need to shampoo every day. Some think they'll be left with a head of dirty, smelly hair if they do not lather up every day, but this is inaccurate. Most people can go a day or more between washing their hair, and waiting between washes actually can be beneficial. "Hair is fiber, and the more you wash it, the worse it's going to look," says Paradi Mirmirani, MD, a dermatologist in California specializing in hair research. People with curly, dry or processed hair can probably go longer between washings than those with thin, straight hair. This enables oils from the scalp to travel down the hair shaft and keep the cuticle healthy. * Conditioner can keep hair smooth and shiny. Some question the necessity for conditioner while others can't live without it. Those with coarse or dry hair usually find that conditioning a few times a week is necessary to tame hair and keep it shiny and looking healthy. On the flip side, those with naturally moist hair may not need to use conditioner more than • Cuts • • Perms • • Color • • Foiling • • Manicure • • Pedicure • • Waxing • hair salon 402 W. Overuse of conditioner can actually contribute to making hair look dull, dry and weighed down. People with thin hair may only want to apply conditioner to the ends so as not to make hair flat and heavy. Many people need to experiment with Visit these Beauty Salon Professionals during National Beauty Salon Month conditioner to find a routine that works. * More lather isn't necessarily better. Contrary to popular belief, shampoos that generate mounds of rich lather are not necessarily better for your hair. Sulfates are commonly used as lathering agents and may be the first ingredients in many commercially produced shampoos. Sulfates make water feel more wet and spread cleaning ingredients from the shampoo more readily across the hair shaft. However, these same cleansers can dehydrate the sebaceous glands and strip the scalp of essential oils and natural moisture. Many stylists recommend sulfate-free shampoos because they are more gentle on the hair. People who color their hair may find a sulfate-free shampoo helps retain their hair color longer. * Brushing can be beneficial. While you may not need 100 strokes of the hair brush to achieve shiny hair, brushing hair gently each day can untangle the hair and help transfer oils from the scalp down the hair shaft and throughout the hair. The key is not to brush too often or too vigorously. Look for a brush with long, plastic bristles that bend. A brush with a rubber base with vents is also good. Do not brush so hard that you scratch your scalp or tear out hair from the roots. The goal is to prevent breakage. Many hair situations not only can be remedied at home, but a person can also consult with a stylist to develop a hair care routine. People experiencing hair problems that are not easily fixed should speak to dermatologists, as such problems may be symptoms of medical issues.
