The one night you can indulge in the glitter of Broadway in our own Shubert Theater. At the one show that celebrates and recognizes the most dazzling creative talent in the region. But this year, it’s even more. It’s the end of one decade and the begin ning of a new One— a newly de signed award that epitomizes how far we’ve come in ten short years. And how bright the rewards that lie ahead. "I wanted to contemporize the One. The shape is simpler and more elegant. It’s smaller in volume, but more precious because of the weight. It’s as simple as that.” Peter Good N Welcome to the 10th Annual Connecticut A rt Directors Club Awards Show. With this special event, the CADC cele brates a decade o f bringing together creative professionals from throughout the state. From our small beginnings ju s t 10 years ago, the club has evolved into an organization which re flects the highly diverse interests o f over 560 people (a rt directors, designers, photographers, illustrators, copywriters and suppliers) through out Connecticut’s design and advertising com m unity This year, special e ffo rt was directed at program development in the Fairfield County area to serve the growing membership who live and work in Southern Connecticut. /4s a result o f this effort, a strong membership base has been developed in the three m ajor population centers o f the state, and we now have achieved one o f the original goals, which was to be a truly statewide organization. Monthly programs, featuring professionals from printing, advertising, publishing, broad cast, illustration, photography and design, have served to stimulate new ideas; while work shops and seminars on business and technical subjects have addressed some o f our more practical concerns. Our second iviembership Directory has been expanded to include advertising from cre ative sources both inside and outside the CADC. This represents the firs t stage in our e ffo rt to build the directory into a comprehensive and valuable reference book fo r locating creative and technical resources throughout Connecticut and the surrounding areas. A new addition to the office is an IBt[/l-PC, which has greatly facilitated communication efforts with our membership. This has been an outstanding year fo r the Connecticut A rt Directors Club. Your Officers and Directors have provided personal dedication and leadership to further develop the club’s com m itm ent to professionalism and design excellence. CADC Executive Director Liz Talbot deserves special recognition fo r her superb organizational talents. I would like to extend m y appreciation to all members who have volunteered their time and energy in support o f the Club during the past year Congratulations to all participants and winners and thank you fo r a memorable year! Elizabeth Rak President R M H U In the course of judging this year's show, two requests were made by the judges themselves. The judges felt that in order to make the show more exclusive, and make each award of greater value to the recipient, it should be more difficult to qualify for hang ing. The judges’ committee, after confer ring with the judges, determined that three votes out of a possible six would qualify an entry for hanging. The judges also requested that a dual award be given in the category of Best Photogra phy As a result, an award was given for Best Photography—Color and Best Photo graphy-Black and White in this year’s show. “ Doing good advertising is not easy It's hard damn work. You have to be willing to go back again and again to make sure y o u ’re doing the best w ork that you know how. I f I lived in Connecticut, I'd want to blow Madison Avenue rig h t out o f the water ” “ Designers should strive to do their work with directness and honesty I f they're selling a product, they should sell it with in te g rity If they’re illustrating o r designing a book, the de sign and illustration should accurately reflect the contents o f the book. Designing is m ostly a function o f doing something with straightfor wardness and integrity and some intelligence. ” '7 love this business— the advertising business. We work hard and have a good time. It seems as i f i t ’s a young person’s business. The work should reflect th a t."
