is com posed o f a talented
blend o f individuals in
volved in varied aspects o f

We’ve enjoyed m onthly
program s as well as special-interest seminars and
workshops which have
served to stim ulate growth
a nd facilitated cand id dis

lems. The Jobs Bank
program has become an
excellent source for creat

our m embers. Another
working tool initiated this
year is the M em bership
Directory
In the area o f C om m unity
Service projects, our m e m
bers raised $4,461 during
an on-air pledge appeal for
CPTV, which we will co n
tinue to participate in. We
also contributed to the
198 3 Greater H a rtfo rd Arts
C ouncil F un d Drive.
It has been a memorable
year for the Connecticut
A rt Directors Club. Your Of
ficers a nd Directors have
worked extremely hard to
reinforce the c lu b ’s com
m itm e n t to professionalism
and design excellence. I
would like to extend a spe

whose endless hours and
dedication have contrib
uted to the successful
organization ofCADC
throughout the year
Thanks to all o f you who
have volunteered your time
and energy to su pp ort the
Club. You have all helped
to give CADC a presence in
the design community,
thereby enabling m y co m
m itm e n t as President to be
a unique a nd rewarding
experience.
Congratulations to all o f
you, and thanks for a
m emorable year!
Anita Karsky
One Show Chairperson
Vice President, Operations
/As 1983 program chairper
son, I feel that the past
year has been one o f
achievement for the Con
necticut A rt Directors Club
because o f the spirited
participation o f the Board
o f Directors whose ener
gies, ideas and goodwill
have made a range o f di
verse programs available.
The One Show, which is the
m ost pub lic o f our efforts,
is now in its 8th year The
prim ary purpose o f this
competition is to recognize
and honor those whose
work has contributed to
the im pact o f the advertis
ing media on our society
Publicizing the winners o f
this com petition serves to
set standards o f excellence
for all involved. These stan
dards will, in years to
come, be surpassed and
new concepts will be cre
ated that will be even more
effective.
The call for entries this
year brought a record
nu m b e r o f submissions
from the entire state. The
entries were ju d g e d and
selected for merit, finalist,
and The One awards, and
ju d g e d according to copy
selling concept, a rt and
production. Our ju r y was o f
the highest caliber All are
respected professionals
and represent a com bina
tion o f disciplines, giving
the needed balance to
evaluate a nd judge.
I would like to thank the
agencies, design studios
and corporations that sub
m itte d over 1,000 entries
a nd to all o f you who sup
ported ou r programs
throughout the year
The true spirit o f any orga
nization is the enthusiasm
and su p p o rt o f its m e m
bers. The show com m ittee
worked long a n d hard to
make this night. I'd like to
thank them all for m aking
m y jo b as chairperson
such a m emorable
experience.
The following pages pres
ent a tribute to the 1983's
outstanding advertising ac
complishments. Thank
you.
“A constant looking for
solutions, or solving prob
lems is what’s fun. Having
an unknown quantity in
the morning and somehow
being able to solve it by
midafternoon. That’s the
fun and that’s the intrigue."
“I think a lot of people do it
that way it ’s a challenge.
Whether it’s a layout, a mu
sical score, finding the
right word or words, or
doing a picture that some
how solves a problem
appropriately."
Carl Fischer
Carl Fischer, photographer
a nd consultant a rt director,
graduated from The Cooper
Union a nd studied in Eu
rope as a Fulbright scholar
He was an advertising
agency a rt director before
becoming a photographer
and his work has won n u
merous awards, including
the New York A rt Directors
Club silver and gold m e d

Photo Essay, " and his
prints are in the p e rm a
nent collections o f several
m useums, in cluding The

pears regularly on Time,
Esquire a nd New York
magazine covers. A m e m
ber o f the Directors Guild

“Clarity is an important
part of good communica

that instant of exposure and
registering something in
someone’s brain. ’’
