Katy Development Authority and Sueba USA
Corporation Finalize Partnership to Develop
Boardwalk District
The City of Katy is pleased to announce that the
Katy Development Authority has taken a key step
forward in the development of the Boardwalk District
(as shown in the accompanying rendering) by entering
into an agreement with Sueba USA Corporation for the
evelopment of a 22-acre parcel located adjacent to Katy
Mills Mall.
Sueba USA Corporation intends to use the parcel
to construct a high quality mixed-use development
consisting of loft living space, retail and restaurant
facilities, and a public plaza. Sueba USA Corporation’s
development will be a strong addition to the Boardwalk
District which will also include a convention center,
hotel, and restaurant row, all anchored by an 89-acre
nature park with a central lake, boardwalks, nature
preserves, and a 2-mile walking trail system. Construction
of the nature park will commence this winter with an
anticipated completion and public opening by the end
of 2016. Katy Development Authority and Sueba USA
Corporation are excited to be joint participants in the
construction of the Boardwalk District — a project that
will provide Katy residents and visitors an additional
first class development to live, work and play.

FRESHNESS IS THE NAME OF THE GAME AT PDQ
School Nurse Receives
House Call from Doctor
Local Fast Casual Chicken Restaurant Dedicated to Quality
PDQ, which stands for People Dedicated to Quality,
is Katy’s newest fast casual restaurant that specializes
in providing customers fresh food fast. Famous for their
scrumptious hand-breaded chicken tenders, fresh handcut fries, delectable hand-tossed salads and deliciously
creamy hand-spun milkshakes, PDQ offers a fresh and
flavorful experience.
Although PDQ is also frequently referred to as “Pretty
Darn Quick,” the fast casual restaurant prides itself on
the quality control that goes into the food preparation.
With no microwaves or freezers onsite, PDQ only uses
the freshest ingredients. All menu items are made to order
and are served in two minutes or under. The fresh-cut
fries are cut in-store from fresh whole potatoes, and the
twelve signature dipping sauces and salad dressings are
made daily in-house to guarantee quality and freshness.
While many are drawn to the
famous crispy chicken tenders, the
menu features a variety of options
that cater to everyone. The high
quality fresh chicken, which comes in
tender meals, sandwiches and salads,
can also be grilled. Or customers
may substitute turkey. The handtossed salads are made with fresh
local produce and can be paired with
delicious homemade salad dressings.
Customers enjoy topping off a meal
with a hand-spun milkshake. With a
variety of flavors, PDQ also offers
seasonal specials. During October,
the seasonal shake is apple pie.
PDQ is dedicated to providing topflight customer service. Guests are
immediately greeted as soon as they
walk through the door. For customers
that opt for the drive-thru, they give their order to a PDQ
employee face-to-face rather than talking into a voice
box to ensure that the same, high-quality service is
provided for those who are on the go. What stands out
the most about PDQ, besides their mouthwatering fresh
food and top-of-the-line customer service, is their open
kitchen, which allows guests to see the food preparation
from start to
finish.

Throughout

milkshake. In addition, if guests wear the shirt
back to PDQ anytime during October, they will
receive a free milkshake with the purchase of
any combo meal. For every t-shirt and milkshake
purchased throughout the month, PDQ will
donate a portion of the proceeds to NBCF. PDQ
is excited to collaborate with NBCF to help
the strong and amazing women who have been
diagnosed with Breast Cancer fight this terrible
disease.
With the holidays approaching, now is the time
to start thinking about catering options. Whether
ordering tender platters for NFL Sundays, or
other delicious menu items for corporate holiday
events or family gatherings, PDQ is available to
provide catering services seven days a week.
PDQ also has a food truck that is available for
larger events.
PDQ is continuing to expand in the Texas
market, with the Cinco Ranch location being the
second of four Houston-area locations to open in 2015.
Boasting 4,300 square feet, the Cinco Ranch location
can accommodate up to 140 diners with counter and
table seating as well as an outdoor patio.

Breast Cancer
Awareness Month
Dr. Darren D. Molina, Texas Children’s Hospital RN, Lisa
Hughes, FWA Nurse, Stella Gomez, and Erin Fernandez
(Sports Medicine Outreach - Texas Children’s HospitalWest Campus).
Recently, a Faith West Academy cheerleader
fell from the top of the pyramid during a routine
cheer practice. Spotters broke her fall, but she
took a hard landing on her head. Her mother
requested that school nurse, Stella Gomez,
examine her for a possible concussion. Nurse
Gomez quickly recognized symptoms of a
concussion (dizziness, headache, and fatigue)
and strongly recommended that she be taken to
her doctor immediately.
The doctor referred her to a specialist at Texas
Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine Program
at the West Campus. With a few tests, it was
confirmed that the cheerleader did indeed have
a concussion. Dr. Daren D. Molina was then
able to make the proper treatment for this young
cheerleader. “I see this kind of injury at least
five times a week,” said Molina. “Most head
injuries referred to me are for football and soccer
players.*”
The importance of concussion awareness
prompted Dr. Molina’s “FWA House Call” to
compliment Nurse Gomez, FWA nurse for the past
six years, for her decisive action in diagnosing
the injury. FWA requires all student athletes and
coaches to take an online training course in the
prevention and diagnosing of concussions.
*Cheerleading has the 10th-highest concussion
rate of the 20 sports for high school athletes as
sited in a 2012 report printed in the American
Journal of Sports Medicine.

“It Wasn’t Pretty, But We Won” – Coach Dave Meadows, Morton Ranch
In a battle between two neighborhood high school football
teams, Morton Ranch and Mayde Creek, the Mavericks
came out on top, 21-20 at Rhodes Stadium Friday evening.
Both teams were more than hungry for a win to bolster up
their seasons. Morton Ranch came in the game with a 1-4
overall record; Mayde Creek was winless.
“It wasn’t a pretty game,” said Maverick Head Coach,
Dave Meadows, “but it was a good one to win; sometimes
you have to win them ugly like that.”
Why was it an ugly win, Coach?
“We just weren’t sharp, but we played very hard,”
explained Meadows. “They (Mayde Creek) played very
hard. It was kind of like a heavy weight boxing match…a
lot of blows struck, hard hitting going on, and fighting for
every inch, every yard.
“We felt like we should have done some things better
than we did, but you have to attribute that to Mayde Creek,”
continued Meadows. “I’m sure the team thought the same
thing. My hat is off to Mayde Creek. They played their
hearts out and so did our kids.”
Part of the Mavericks’ offensive success can be attributed
to a great game by #22, senior running back, Dartavious
Dixon. Dixon has 709 yards rushing for the season and five
touchdowns.
Meadows, in his opinion, believes that Dixon is the best
running back in district 19-6A. Dixon returned a Mayde
Creek punt for 90 yards and a TD, plus several other good
runs for significant yardage.
“First, I want to thank God for that run,” said Dixon in a
post game interview. “It wasn’t really me. He took control,
and I scored. Our blockers put hits on some the Mayde
Creek defenders, and I scored. It was all a team effort,

coming together. We fought…all of us gave a
supreme effort throughout the game.”
Early in the first quarter, the Mavericks had
driven down to within the Rams’ five yard
line, and had four downs to cross the goal
line, but the Rams held.
“We should have scored,” said Dixon. “We
practice goal line situations all the time. I was
kind of disappointed we didn’t pull through
and score.”
On the very first play of the second quarter
Maverick quarterback, #16, Nic Hernandez
connected with receiver, #10 Austin
Richardson for a 32 yard touchdown pass.
“I was hoping he would throw the ball to
me because I was wide open. Please throw the
ball,” said Richardson.
“The line had collapsed and I had to step up

a win. but mistakes in special teams
this week gave us some problems, just
small mistakes that turned out to be a
big impact on the game.
“We gave up a fake punt in a
situation where it was pretty obvious,”
continued Rabe. “We had a punt
return on us. They ran a reverse on us
in a regular formation that we knew
about. Our coverage wasn’t very good
on kickoffs. We had an opportunity to
recover an on-side kick, and got on it
a little too soon, missed an extra point
that would have tied the game at 21
and quite possibly would forced the
game into overtime.”
The Ram goal line stand against
the Mavericks in the first quarter was
big.
“I thought the defense showed a lot
of character right there. They bowed
their backs and had a nice goal line
stance. I thought the whole defensive
unit played good. We moved (#-23),
Damon Bryant, senior tight end, back
over to defense and he did really well.
Linebacker, Calvin Laskey, (#12),
has been playing well all year. Jaylen
Brown (#11) at Linebacker did well,
the defensive line held their ground. I
think our defensive unit, overall played
their best game of the year tonight.”
Brown is a double threat. He not
only is a linebacker on defense, but
alternates with Anthony Alcoser,
#7, quarterback on Ram running
situations. Brown scored the first TD
for the Rams in the first quarter and
Rams’ last score in the fourth quarter.
Brown recently received an offer
from Western Michigan University to
play for them next year.
Next week, the Mavericks of Morton
Ranch take on the Katy Tigers. Coach
Meadows says his team has learned a
couple things from the Mayde Creek
game that should help them with
Katy.
“Our defense grew up some tonight;
we struggled the last two or three
weeks. The last two times when they
(Mayde Creek) had the ball in do or
die situations, our defense did a great
job stopping them. Our kids had to
fight hard for every inch and came
out victorious. That has to be a plus.
Sometime you only learn how to win a
fight, by being in a fight.”
Mayde Creek’s next opponent is
Tompkins, with the Rams hoping to
post their first victory of the year.
