This year $168,525 in educational scholarships was awarded to 65 northern Nevada women; translating to the lives of 41 children. Every dollar awarded through the Fund goes toward the completion of not only a bachelors degree, or a masters, but it is affording a woman in need with the opportunity to achieve her dreams, and the ability to inspire achievement in her own community. Cultivating future leaders to break down the barriers placed on them by their circumstances drive our efforts. We hope to show women that there is someone out there who believes in them and is willing to invest in their future, women such as Caroline who said, “Receiving a scholarship from the Nevada Women’s Fund is an incredible honor. I really feel the key message is how invaluable the feeling of being believed in is – sometimes it is hard to stay motivated as an older student, with a family, but the Nevada Women’s Fund helps fuel this fire. Thank you, thank you, thank you!” — Caroline, 2015 scholarship recipient. By working together with devoted donors, board members, and volunteers, our passionate pursuit to help women has been made a reality. For 33 years, the Nevada Women’s Fund has worked to strengthen its community by empowering women to better their lives. By aiding these women in pursuit of their educational goals, we have created, and continue to nurture impact that goes far beyond the women themselves, we influence children and families as well. Thank you for your continued support in all that we do at the Fund. 1 President’s Message Isabelle Rodriguez Wilson, President and CEO Photo by: LSN Studios For nearly four years I have served as the President of this wonderful organization, and in this time I have seen the tremendous power of a community coming together to create a positive impact. With each year that has gone by, I have been witness to the immense ability that the NWF has to change lives and bring hope to the hopeful. After 33 years, this organization is still making a remarkable difference while inspiring achievement in our local community. In 2015 we awarded nearly $300,000 in scholarships and grants to local women and community non-profits. This was an increase of more than $40,000 distributed throughout our local region, over last year. These advancements come with the dedication, support and involvement of each and every one of our donors, board members, foundations and volunteers. Your support means so much to us here at the Fund, but even more to the women hoping and searching for a way to better their lives. It is easily one of the most rewarding feelings in the world when you are able to witness a single mother opening her scholarship check for the first time. The look of excitement as she fights to hold back the tears that fill her eyes is not one easily forgotten and the motivation behind what we do. Thank you once again for making it all possible. 2015 Salute to Women of Achievement More than 1,200 people were in attendance at our 24th annual Salute to Women of Achievement luncheon this year. It was an all around success from the presentation of the Hall of Fame award to the Honorable Deborah Schumacher, to the emotional speech given by scholarship recipient Katy Lynn, to the astounding $330,000 raised in support of our mission. On top of this inspiring success, 58 incredible women were honored, ranging from professions in banking to medicine, and so much more. Though these women come from different walks of life, one thing they all have in common is their passion and dedication to their careers, and to their community. It is Dr. Connie Mariano, Honorable Deborah Schumacher and NWF Board Chair, Debby Herman Photo by: JLM Photography with pride that the Fund recognizes these women. We thank everyone who continues to make this event possible, and we hope you’ll join us next year as we celebrate our 25th WOA anniversary; a milestone for the organization as we continue to recognize and salute community women. Giving Circle Awards $65,535 to The Eddy House This year the Giving Circle presented a check for $65,535 to The Eddy House for its YOUth Resource Center. The YOU is a walk-in center in downtown Reno for homeless, runaway, foster and other at-risk youth between the ages of 12 and 21. Youth visitors can access “care and comfort services” including showers, access to laundry facilities, snacks, clothing, free wi-fi, cellphone charging, a tech lab and The Chill Zone— a safe place to spend time off the streets. Since 2008, the NWF Giving Circle has awarded more than $685,000, including The Eddy House donation, to local area non-profits to help the NWF reach its mission of inspiring achievement. 2015 Grant Awards: $123,117 Donor Directed Grants: $14,945 Assistance League of Reno Sparks for Operation School Bell Nevada Women’s History Project Planned Parenthood Mar Monte Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum NWF Community Grants: $42,637 Assistance League of Reno Sparks Casa De Vida Nevada Youth Empowerment Project (NYEP) Northern NV Center for Independent Living Pinocchio’s Moms on the Run Ridge House, Inc Sierra Association of Foster Families TIP of Northern Nevada NWF Giving Circle Grant - $65,535 The Eddy House - YOUth Resource Center 2 Mother’s Day Appeal Match Update The Fund has been presented with an exciting opportunity this year as an anonymous donor presented a mother’s day appeal match. This means that every dollar donated toward the appeal will be matched up to $50,000. As of August 31, 2015, your mother’s day donations plus the match from the anonymous donor has already equaled an incredible $19,820! Through your efforts, and the generous match pledge, we are opening even more doors for deserving women in our community. We are being equipped to provide more scholarship opportunities, not only impacting our greater community, but emphasizing the pursuit of dreams among families and children as well. If you have not joined the match with a donation, you still have time. The match will be open until December 31, 2015. To contribute toward this matching offer, please call the office at 775-786-2335 or visit our website at www.NevadaWomensFund.org. Thank you for all you do to support this organization, our mission, and our community.
