PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I want to thank the two members that have left
the board, Jamie Kane and George Makovec. They were
my right hand for help, when needed. They will be
missed, but three years on the board is very tiring and
stressful, so I can understand why they decided not to
run this year.
We are now going into the change of seasons
and will look back a little at the past summer. As some
of you might know, the bands were very successful.
They were attended beyond my expectation. The fireworks were spectacular and we are planning to have fireworks July 4th in 2014. The funds for this will come
from donations. Family members who would like to
donate any amount for the July 4th celebration would be
greatly appreciated.
The one thing that we would like to accomplish
with the bands is, in the first five months of the year, to
get the money from donations earlier than in the past.
The problem we had was trying to get a band at the last
minute and then try to find the money to fund it. I would
like to thank the people that donated the money to the
bands. This allows us to assure that no money comes out
of the budget for that entertainment. The fireworks on
Labor Day weekend were generously donated by a member. All the rumors you hear of who paid for them is not
a fact. None of the funds came out of the Lake Hauto
Club’s budget. I must respect the wishes of the donator
to remain anonymous.
All three beaches were well-maintained. The
sand came late due to the fact that there was discussion
of what kind of sand to obtain and to then test the sand to
make sure that it would work in our environment. We
purchased a sand scrubber. The sand scrubber permits us
to go over the sand and it then picks up all the little
stones. It works very well.
Eastwood beach had the pavilion painted, a new
pump for the restroom, awning around the whole side of
the pavilion and new piece of playground equipment
called Lily pads. In the next coming years, we have put
a program in to purchase new playground equipment
hopefully at least one piece per year for the different
beaches. This equipment is very expensive, due to the
state and federal regulations.
The grass was well-maintained. I know some
members would like to cut all the grass weekly, but in

this large development it would be practically impossible.
You would have to hire 3 to 4 employees just to cut the
grass. The weeds are being cut for the last time this season. This is the first time that we not only cut the main
roads, but we cut the side roads, too. I feel this is the best
year we ever had in grass cutting.
Oakwood bathroom had a leak in the pipe under
the restroom that shut the restroom down for five days.
When we started the job it looked like a one day job and
each day we were told one more day. They kept running
into problems. If I knew it was going to be a five day job,
we would have had a job Johnny there. We need to do
some cement work on some of the walkways that are
cracked at Eastwood and Oakwood Beaches.
Our intention this year was to get a replacement
swing set that was damaged at Oakwood Beach last year.
Unfortunately, as you might know, this is tied up in a legal battle. However, I am fairly sure that this will be resolved this winter. Oakwood got a whole new set of
docks this year and we still intend on cutting down the
dead trees.
Crescent beach got an upgrade in our office and
board room that was well needed. A new restroom on the
office level is being installed.
The library will be moved up to the Community
Center. It will be located on the side where the ping pong
table is. We are going to divide it off, so that we still have
some storage in the back. We are going to paint the library
and the security cameras are already in place. We hope to
put sensors in so that when you walk in to the building,
the lights will go on. We are also hoping to put a combination lock on the door. With these three additions: automatic lights, cameras and combination door, you will have
more access to the library. It will not be only available
when Kim was in our office.
We installed some new drainage, a new road on
Deer Trail Lane and a short distance of Great Oaks Drive.
Each year we spend around $100,000 to build new roads.
We've been doing this road program going into the fourth
year. All assessment monies are used one hundred percent
for new roads plus we take the balance out of the budget.
The average amount collected from an assessment is between $62,000 and $65,000. The board has not picked the
roads for next year and will be in process of doing that
sometime in January. We have to keep on this road project
every year and then we will finally get them all refurbished. Lake Drive is a problem because the question is
whether to do the whole road all at once, which is the best

way to do it, or to do sections at a time. Financially it is
impossible to do it all at once. This will be up to the
board to make that decision.
The dam is ready for inspection this week. The
maintenance people did a good job on correcting the requests that the inspector had from last year; such as, finish the road from the spillway up to the breast of the dam.
We also had to finish the road down by the valve. We
also had divers in to check the flapper valve which was
not working. They found that the cable had just rusted off.
The new cable is stainless steel and estimated to last 15
years. Also, Chester Gangaware designed a screen that
the divers put down over the flapper valve so that when
we open the valve, we will not lose fish anymore. Chester
does an excellent job keeping up with state and federal
regulations on our dam. It is a very important job that virtually goes unseen.
For security, we are going to shift some cameras
around to get better use out of them. We will put one or
two cameras up that are pixels. Both gate entrances will
have our cameras working.
We purchased a used pontoon boat so that the
employees can be out on the lake in a safer manner. The
barges that we built became unsafe to use.
The gates should be finished by the time you get
this newsletter. We'll be running into test modes and have
lot of safety devices on the Gates for security purposes.
When the Gates are turned over to our satisfaction, then
the big job starts. We have to decide how many cards
each member will get, plus we have to check all vendors
including school district, post office, fire department, and
delivery people that will use the gates daily. We also have
to address what we are going to do with Greenwood.
Therefore, we will have to bring the new board members
up to speed because we have been working on the gate
project since March. There were a lot of things added to
the Gates as we were going through this project for safety
purposes and for security. I do not think the board intends
to put the Gates in full operation to start 24 hours a day.
We will phase the gates in slowly. We hope to have a
meeting with the general membership with the technicians there to answer all of your questions. The date will
be announced at a later time.
Recreation is already being planned for next summer. The picnic was great and alot of members attended.
The ice cream/waffle truck was a big hit. We solved the
problem of the long food lines of the previous year and
everything went very smoothly. I was hoping that Jennifer and Cindy would run it for us next year. Coming up
in the future we have the Christmas party for the children
and also a Halloween party.

This past summer, there was a noticeable increase in illegal recreational vehicles (atvs, dirt bikes, motorcycles),
illegal boats and PWC. By illegal, I mean not registered
with Lake Hauto. Non-members were seen accessing our
facilities with other non-members without being accompanied by a LHC member. There was also an incident of a
non-member approaching a child and more. These observations were made by numerous members, not just a few.
This is a recreational community but trespassers (those
who do not own property in LHC, aren't with a LHC
member, and those not wearing guest tags), have no business using our facilities, nor do they have the authority to
bring other non-members here. They do not pay taxes
here, dues, nor do they pay our assessments, so why
should they have access to our community? This needs to
stop! If run properly, I do believe the gates will correct
many of these issues. As the chairperson of security, I will
do my best to keep out trespassers. The board is currently
working on ways to keep trespassers out of Lake Hauto.
We hired a security company, Lehigh Law, for the last
few weeks of summer to keep our community safer. Unfortunately, its workers were more interested in harassing
the same LHC members for tags on all three beaches, rather than approaching individuals who clearly did not belong here. They did not tell trespassers to leave, nor were
they seen at the gates. Our surrounding towns are saturated with crime. We do not want this element in our community.
Remember the old, but still viable rule of LHC:
Members, spouses, and unmarried children can use our
facilities. Guests MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A
MEMBER (or the member needs to be in the vicinity),
and non-members must wear a guest tag at all times. If
you see anything that raises your concern, don't hesitate to
contact me and your police department. It is our responsibility as a whole, to work together to keep Lake Hauto
everything our families envisioned it to be but most importantly, to make our development a safe place for our
children.

Regina Grim presented the board with a petition against the new
paddle board rule. On the petition it read, “Paddle boards are considered non-motorized vessels and should be treated like other nonmotorized vessels on the lake. Paddle boards should stay no more
than 50 feet from shore and stay our of the ski area.” Discussion
held. C. Gangaware is concerned about our liability since the visibility is not as good with paddle boards. A motion was made by G.
Demetriades, seconded by C. Gangaware, to accept their petition.
A motion was made by G. Demetriades, seconded by J. Lavine, to
approve the purchase of the sand cleaning machine after reviewing
its performance.
Since we have decided to not put chemicals in the lake to control
the lily pads, a motion was made by G. Makovec, seconded by J.
Kane, to purchase a cutter with a collector for the lily pads. The
cost would be $3000.00 plus shipping and handling.
A motion was made by J. Kane, seconded by G. Makovec, to spend
up to $14,000.00 on a sand cleaning machine.

board will discuss a possible new
rule at the next workshop. As of
right now there is no rule regarding paddle boards. If the changes
to the rule are not acceptable to
the petition group, the current petition will be used.

a new rule that Paddle boards will ONLY be permitted in the “No
Wake” zone of Lake Hauto. Also, the user of the paddle board
must also register the board with the Club prior to using, wear a life
jacket and have a whistle with them when they are on the water.

for security Lehigh Law Enforcement for as many hours as needed
up to 50 hours.

Boyers’ rebate programs.
Congratulations!
Gar and Kim Thomas are proud to announce
the engagement of their daughter, Nicole Thomas, to
James Dunn. Nicole is the granddaughter of Daniel
and Nancy Dubosky of Lake Hauto, and Jane and the
late Garfield Thomas of Forty Fort, PA.
Nicole is currently a senior at Cedar Crest College. She is
employed at Four D’s Pizza at the Hometown Farmers Market in
Tamaqua, PA.
Jimmy is the son of Jim and Tammie Dunn of New
Ringgold, PA. He is employed at his family’s dairy and tree farm,
Dunn’s Pride Holsteins & Trees in New Ringgold, PA.
A wedding date has not been set.
Take your eligible Save-A-Tapes from Redner’s
down to the office and drop them into the outside
letter drop or take them inside the office during
regular office hours and give them to Kim. At Redner's you must remember to have the cashier
swipe your key tag in order for your Save-A-Tape
to be eligible.. At Boyer’s, all you need to do is

by September 30th. All hardware must be removed from
the docks so that the docks
can be stacked on the shoreline. If you do
not remove your hardware, it will be removed by the maintenance crew and not
saved.
The boats on the shoreline at the beaches must

Please move all basketball
poles and nets back away from the
road. It makes it very difficult to
plow and can break the lights on
the plow truck.
MULCH AREA RULES
The much area is being locked with a
combination lock. The office has the
combination code. Please go back as far
as possible before dumping your compost
material. Please do not dump your compost material right
at the entrance. It costs alot of money to clear this area if
our members do not cooperate. If the members continue to
dump at the entrance, this mulch area may have to be
closed permanently. The South Shore Mulch Area (off of
Rt. 54) is for compost material only. That includes leaves,
tree limbs, and grass clippings. NOT PERMITTED: tires,
concrete, stumps, railroad ties, garbage or tree trunks. It is
not available for outside lawn care services. DO NOT
LEAVE YOUR PLASTIC BAGS IN THIS AREA!
