Sounds of Light has become known to be the biggest event on the calendar of the Muslim community. With nation-wide destinations across 6 cities, Sounds of Light has become an event that unites all Muslim communities in Australia through an evening of delightful entertainment for a charitable cause. With the purpose of raising orphan sponsorship awareness and supporting the needy around the globe, this charity event has had an excess of 40,000 attendees over the years resulting in over 6500 sponsorships. The concerts will be held between 25th February and 2nd March 2016. 2 It is back. Bigger and better. Bringing to you the finest entertainment, SOL will light a spark within you as the most acclaimed performers from the Muslim world take to the stage and mesmerise the audience. Through the Sounds of Light charity concerts, various communities within Australia will come together and work in synergy to become an efficient society where the collective purpose is to make the world a better place. Whilst creating an atmosphere that will benefit orphans and disadvantaged children whom lack access to education, food and healthcare programs, Sounds of Light promise to be the helping hand for a brighter future. May Allah bless you all.” “It is very helpful and we want this program again.” 3 Maher Zain SWEDEN Acclaimed Swedish singer, songwriter and music producer Maher Zain is one of the biggest names in the Islamic Music genre. Originally from Lebanon, Maher is the biggest Arab Muslim artist on facebook with over 25 million fans and growing. Maher’s popular music has appealed to audiences worldwide making him very successful in this industry. With record sales sky rocketing, Maher has achieved the ultimate accolade by receiving 25 Platinum awards for his second album ‘Forgive Me’ in Indonesia alone in 2012. 4 Maher has performed in 5 continents and is in the process of releasing his third album. Maher is definitely the most popular Islamic Nasheed artist in this day and age, his lyrics and song choices appealing to both the young and old of our community. Together, helping the children of the world. Mesut Kurtis MACEDONIA Macedonian/Turkish vocal extraordinaire Mesut Kurtis is the biggest in nasheed and Islamic music. Mesut, found himself having a deep seated connection with music from an early age going on to perform with groups in the local social clubs, mosques and conferences. Mesut’s first album “Salawat” was warmly received by listeners with his strong voice and soulful songs. Followed by his well known and much loved music video Al-Burdah the fan base multiplied extensively. His second album “Beloved” saw a launching in the branch of the Virgin megastore in Saudi Arabia which the country had never previously witnessed. He sings in a variety of languages which include Turkish, Arabic, English, Bosnian and Albanian. Mesut has performed in many countries around the world and also performed alongside many well known artists including Maher Zain and Raef. 5 Omar Regan USA Omar was born and raised in Detroit MI. He started writing songs at the age of 9 and debuted on the professional music scene along with his brother as a member of the group S.O.A at the age of 11 but later parted and focused on solo careers. In November of 1999 Omar jumped on stage as a stand-up comic in local Detroit Comedy Clubs. He then auditioned and was awarded the leading role on a Regional Ford Focus Commercial and came to realize that acting was his passion. In the same year Regan left Detroit for Hollywood. 6 In 2001 he was offered and accepted the Photo Double for Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 2. In 2005 he was on the main stage at the World famous Comedy store. Omar has now founded his own production called Halalywood and uses entertainment and humor to promote tolerance, diversity to build bridges across racial, religious and social divides. As an African American Muslim entertainer, Regan offers a unique perspective on everyday life, his mission statement is an acronym of his last name, Reflect Excellence, Gratitude And Nur (Light) Regan. Mohammed Al Azzawi IRAQ A distinguished Nasheed artist regarded as the master of the Maqamat (or vocal vibrato), emperor of Enshad (Chanting) and vocalist Mesopotamia. Mohammed’s eloquent expressions and divine rhythms mesmerized the audience in Sounds of Light 2010. His albums are very popular throughout the Islamic world. Mohammed is also a well-known media presenter in Al-Majd satellite channel and an active member of the International Aid forum for Iraqi children. 7 Harris J UK Born in Chelsea in the heart of London, Harris J is a young British Muslim artist of Indian and Irish background. From an early age Harris’s natural talent for singing was evident as he was singing and performing in public, school recitals and multi faith gatherings. Harris J won a competition and signed an exclusive record with Awakening Records, after entering a social media powered Awakening Talent Contest in 2013 in which Maher Zain was a judge. In July 2015 Harris J graduated with a triple distinction from the world renowned BRIT School of Performing Arts in London. 8 World Music Trends have identified Harris as “an artist who’ll take the global Islamic music by storm”. NEW FOR 2016 Talent Quest LOCAL TALENT, GLOBAL CHANGE The Sounds of Light 2016 Talent Quest is an initiative to promote youth talents, stimulate their creativity, show schools spirit and help vulnerable children around the world. Schools, youth organisations and students are encouraged to participate in the Talent Quest organised by Human Appeal Australia Community Care (HAACC) as part of its youth program. HAACC is new initiative that aims to assist vulnerable people from all walks of life, committed towards addressing the needs of the local communities including; refugees, migrants, elders and youth and provides humanitarian aid support during natural disasters and emergencies in Australia. The aim of the Talent Quest is to encourage youth to aspire, to dream and to exercise their right to express themselves through performing and creative arts. It also carries the purpose to give young people the platform to realise their potential and to boost their confidence for better leadership qualities. This event is a fantastic opportunity for young Australians to show their unique talents and skills. In addition to the opportunity to perform alongside well-known artists such as Maher Zain (Sweden), Omar Regan (USA), Mesut Kurtis (Macedonia) and young Muslim star Harris J (UK), the finalists will have access to our new leadership and high achievers programs run annually. 9 Human Appeal Int. Spanning across 4 continents: Australia, Asia, Africa and Europe, working across the globe to strengthen humanity’s fight against poverty and to respond to emergencies like those caused by wars and natural disasters. He (pbuh) said: do you like that your heart become soft and you get what you want? Then, be kind and merciful with the orphan. Pass your hand over his head and feed him from your own food then your heart will be softened and you will get what you want” (At-tabarani) Sponsoring an orphan is one of the greatest deeds that Allah (SWT) and his Messenger Mohammed (PBUH) emphasised. Immense rewards have been guaranteed for those who sponsor needy orphans. Keeping in mind that Allah (swt) chose for his final messenger and beloved to be an orphan himself. Orphan sponsorship involves providing adequate income for the orphan in order to secure their basic necessities for food, clothing, education and healthcare. Today there are millions of disadvantaged orphans around the world who do not have the same opportunity as other children. Helping those orphans is essential. Sounds of light concert is mainly dedicated towards helping children of the world particularly the Orphans.
