Fear that energy use causes rising global pollution, climate destruction, and resource depletion forms the basis for college courses and many of our state and national energy policies. But a review of scientific data and economic trends shows that these fears are unfounded. Nevertheless, energy misconceptions provide ammunition for the current war on hydrocarbons and reasons for the misguided push for renewable alternatives. The resulting green energy policies are producing bizarre results in Europe and around the world. The good news is that an upheaval is coming in energy and climate regulations and industry can help accelerate this upheaval. Join what’s sure to be a compelling presentation and lively discussion. You could win one of Mr. Goreham’s books! Networking Luncheon Tuesday, April 26 • 11:30 am – 1:00 pm A sea of tables with timely topics to discuss with your peers. Tables are hosted by industry experts who moderate casual conversation on topics such as: Climate Science, IL Basin Updates, The Regulatory Landscape, Plant Performance Improvement and more. A minimum of 10 table topics will be offered. The Coal Preparation Society of America (CPSA) was founded in 2002 to serve the professional needs of individuals interested in all aspects of the coal preparation industry. The society’s underlying goal is to provide a forum for the free exchange of technical information through conference meetings, technical publications, workshops, short courses and personal contacts. This year the CPSA invites its members for an evening cruise aboard the Belle of Louisville – The oldest operating Mississippi River style steamboat in the world. During the three hour cruise along the Ohio River, members and their guests will enjoy an evening of fine dining, live entertainment from ventriloquist David Crone, and a chance to meet up with fellow members and friends. The society will also award its coal preparation scholarships. The cruise will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Boarding time is at 6:00 PM. Transportation will be provided to the boarding location. Tickets are $99 per person or $594 for a table of six and are available to the CPSA members only. Organizations wishing to help sponsor the event can do so for $400 and have their logos prominently displayed at the CPSA Coal Prep Booth as well as receive preferential seating on the cruise. coalprepshow.com 7 The Conference: Workshops Workshop 1 Introduction to Coal Preparation Monday, April 25 • 8:00 am - 2:00 pm Presenter: Barbara Arnold, President, PrepTech, Inc. This workshop is intended for equipment manufacturers, utility personnel, coal purchasers, new plant hires, chemical vendors, construction personnel, or other support staff, who would like to develop a better understanding of the basic principles of coal preparation. It will cover a broad range of topics including a review of coal properties important to coal utilization, coal sizing, cleaning and dewatering operations. Equipment sections will provide down-to-earth descriptions of common types of coal preparation processes and the factors that influence their performance. A fundamentals section will also be provided to show attendees how to interpret characterization data obtained from particle sizing and float-sink (washability) analyses. Ancillary topics such as coal sampling and analysis, coal handling, and wear. Materials will also be included. Includes lunch. Workshop 2 Plant Performance Testing Monday, April 25 • 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Presenter: Michael Evans, Vice President, Energy Minerals, SGS Group Management, Inc. Ensuring that a preparation plant is maximizing a mine’s profitability requires knowing how efficiently the major circuits in your plant are performing.. Properly designed plant testing allows a plant’s performance to be measured and the data needed to optimize the equipment and circuits. This workshop, presented by the largest coal laboratory in the world, will walk you through process step by step including: ◆◆ How plant yield impacts mine profitability ◆◆ Design of a testing program to maximize the value obtained ◆◆ Good sampling is critical to obtaining good data; good sampling methods will be covered ◆◆ Sampling checks that must be included in the test design to insure valid results ◆◆ Recordkeeping and other data that should be collected during the test ◆◆ Sample preparation and analysis ◆◆ How to evaluate the data to maximize the tests value ◆◆ How to measure efficiency and how to use results to trouble shoot an operation Once a performance test has been conducted and circuit and/or operational changes made as a result, then it is important to continuously monitor the process periodically to ensure that efficiency and recovery improvements are being maintained. Implementing regular plant sampling routine is crucial to maintaining optimum performance. You will leave this workshop with a practical “How to” guide and the ability to apply it in your operations.
