Tenova TAKRAF designs comminution systems for coal mining and preparation, industrial minerals, mining and
processing and other non-metallic mining and processing systems. Crushing systems include in-pit, primary, secondary,
tertiary and quaternary crushing systems. An extensive size reduction database from a significant number of
installations is used to recommend crusher models and sizes.
BRADFORD COAL BREAKER
APPLICATIONS
The Bradford Breaker is essentially a large rotating
cylinder powered by an electric motor through a reducer
and chain drive.
Coal is lifted and dropped in the cylinder, shattering on
impact. Product sized coal passes through perforations
in the cylinder shell, while reject material such as stone
and debris is discarded separately.
Bradford Breakers are sold under license from
Pennsylvania Crusher Corporation.
n Primary ROM coal crushing and cleaning.
n Secondary coal crushing and cleaning.
The most common application is on raw coal but the
Bradford Breaker can also be used to separate other
materials.
Machine sizes are available for feed rates from 100 to
2,000 t/h and more.

n Grid type screen plates ensure high cylinder strength
and long life.
n The machine is driven from one end only by a simple
drive assembly comprising squirrel cage motor, fluid
coupling, gearbox and final chain drive.
n Large feed and discard openings allow passage of
large run-of-mine (ROM) lumps of coal and tramp
material without the risk of blockage.
n Internal lifters can be arranged to accelerate or retard
material flow rate through the machine.
n The Bradford Breaker can simultaneously size and
clean raw coal.
n Fines generation is minimised since the coal fractures
along natural cleavage lines.
n The Bradford Breaker can be operated with minimal
downtime.
n Operating costs are relatively low because power
consumption is low compared to other machines
performing a similar crushing duty.
n The machine is designed to contain dust, permitting
effective suppression or extraction and treatment of
dust-laden air.
