Auberlen, Hand Take
G.A. 400 GT Victory
BMW Team PTG M3s Finish 1st, 6th, 7th, 12th
Fontana, Calif. — April 3, 2005
T
he No. 21BMW Team PTG M3 of Bill Auberlen and Joey
Hand won the GT class of today’s Grand American 400,
moving BMW to second in Manufacturer Points. It was
the first victory of the 2005 season for the defending GT class
champions. Starting from the pole, the duo covered 84 laps in
the two-hour-and-forty-five-minute contest, finishing ahead
of the No. 65 Porsche.
Not an easy race, the contest was marked by six caution
periods that required smart pit strategy by Team PTG to gain
advantage over a very competitive 24-car GT field.
After falling to second on the lap 14 restart, Auberlen pitted
for fuel only during the second yellow-flag to regain the lead.
He held the point and it was the fifth caution period of the
race that proved pivotal for the win. Just within the window to
make it a one-stop race, Auberlen was able to pit the No. 21
M3 under caution. Hand entered the car on lap 46 and, though
challenged towards the end of the race, held on for the win.
The No 22 BMW Team PTG M3 of Chris Gleason and Ian
James finished sixth after starting fifth.
The No. 16 BMW Team PTG F1 Air M3 of Tom Milner and
Justin Marks started second and ran just behind the leading
No. 21 M3 for a great part of the race. Unfortunately, their
effort was undone by a broken coolant fitting. Marks had to
pit for repairs with only 25 minutes remaining in the race.
They finished seventh, with Milner setting the fast lap of the
race (1:41.545) on lap two.
After running in the top-10, the No. 17 BMW Team PTG F1 Air
M3 of RJ Valentine and Kelly Collins dropped back in the field
late in the race after pitting for tires. They finished twelfth.
Round four of the Rolex Sports Car Series will take place on
April 29 – May 1 at Laguna Seca Raceway.

BMW Performance
Center Announces
2005 Driving Program
Schedule
All BMW driving programs start with a short classroom lesson followed by extensive “seat time” on BMW’s professionally-built course. In fact, the BMW Performance Center road
course can be configured in 35 different ways and uses special features not found in most driver training programs.
Gift certificates are also available for each driving program.
For more information on the BMW Performance Center and
its programs, call 888-345-4BMW (4269).

Two-Day Teen Driving School Offerings Increase
Spartanburg, SC — March 22, 2005
F
ans of the ultimate driving machine can indulge their
passion while honing their driving skills at the latest
driving programs offered by the BMW Performance
Center. Located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the BMW
Performance Center has just released its new driving program schedule, which features more class offerings for the
popular two-day teen driving school.
“Our driving programs are designed for everyone – from the
teen novice driver to the skilled enthusiast -- who wants to
maximize his or her performance behind the wheel while
developing defensive driving skills on a professional course,”
said Diane Nevelle, manager of driving programs and events.
“This year, we’re expanding the number of two-day teen driving schools to accommodate customers’ increased interest.”
Both the one-day and two-day teen schools teach young,
inexperienced drivers car control techniques that they may
not have learned elsewhere. Teens can build their confidence
while learning how to cope with everyday traffic situations,
performing complex maneuvers, and responding to real-life
driving emergencies in a safe, controlled atmosphere.
The teen schools also let drivers fulfill their dream of driving a 3 Series, and both programs offer the BMW 330i
Performance Package.
The second day of the two-day teen school features driving lessons with the X3 and X5 Sports Activity Vehicles on
the specially-built ‘Other Roads’ course. Teens experience a
winding 1.4 mile route with gravel, water and dirt trails that
simulate a variety of road conditions. These exercises, combined with lessons on a paved course, provide participants
with a thorough understanding of vehicle dynamics.
Teens also handle rock angles up to 45 degrees and learn
safe river-crossing techniques and Hill Ascent Control and
Hill Descent Control on uneven surfaces using BMW traction systems. The ‘Other Roads’ course includes cornering
at ground speeds on gravel surfaces and ground clearance
limits.

Gingerman Raceway
with CGI Motorsports
Travel by High-speed Ferry
Registration Closes May 21
I
n June 2004, a dozen Badger Bimmers linked up with CGI
Motorsports to spend a Monday at Gingerman Raceway in
South Haven, MI. It was a very enjoyable event at a very
safe yet demanding road course. Gingerman Raceway is
about two miles in length, with elevation changes, complex
cornering and a lot of run off areas throughout the course.
An added feature is that South Haven is a nice lakeshore
community much like Door County with a great beach-front,
shops, restaurants and other amenities for the rest of the
family if you choose to make it a longer weekend outing.
Last year, a few of the members made use of the high-speed
Ferry to shuttle over to Michigan the day before, avoiding
Chicago and the Sunday traffic shuffle. A one-hour drive
south from Muskegon and we were there in time to unpack
and have a relaxing dinner in South Haven.
CGI offers a full-day driving experience. Registration starts
at 9 am EST with a mandatory drivers’ meeting at 9:30 and
the first group out at 10 am. Even with an hour lunch break,
plan on seven 20-minute sessions. The track closes at 6 pm,
leaving about 3.5 hours of sunlight for a return trip through
Chicago and back to Milwaukee.
This year we have reserved the date of July 18th. CGI schedules their events for Mondays. Registration is followed by
introductions and a brief classroom session. Novices will
have another half-hour classroom; in-car instruction will be
available. Cost for the one-day event is $175.
Again this year, we are looking into using the high-speed
ferry from Milwaukee to Muskegon. Cost of the ferry is $50
per person and $59 for a car, one-way. A round-trip totals
$85/person and $118/car BUT, with the late departure time
from Michigan, you may want to drive and be home a few
hours earlier. More complete information and directions are
available at www.lake-express.com.
So, if you like to drive, want to experience another track
beyond Blackhawk and RA, you may want to mark down this
date at Gingerman with the Badger Bimmers: July 18th. For
more information on CGI, go to www.cgimotorsports.com.
For more on Gingerman, go to www.gingermanraceway.com.
Since CGI holds registrations for our group before others
www.badgerbimmers.org
can sign up, please contact me no later than May 21, 2005.
To register, contact me at [email protected] or call 414-2644343.

Badger Bimmers Return
to Autocrossing with
SCCA
WHEN: Saturday, June 18, 2005 7:30 to 8:30am Registration
WHERE: Miller Park, East Parkiing Lot
HOW MUCH: 20 bucks
WHO: All Badger Bimmer Members
WHY: WHY NOT!!! A great way to have fun with your cars
M
ark your calendars. This June 18th the Badger
Bimmers are sponsoring an autocross with SCCA on
Father’s Day weekend. The date set is a Saturday
so as to not interfere with Dad’s Day celebrations. Due to
the Badger Bimmer’s sponsorship of the event, all Badger
Bimmers will be able to sign up at the SCCA member rate of
$20 and this includes same day registration.
For the June 18th autocross, there will be one special
class...... and that would be the BMW class. All Badger
Bimmers who are not active in SCCA autocross and have not
established a car class will be listed in the BMW group. That
way we can measure the competition against a wide variety
of drivers and car types. Whether you bring your 2002, Z3,
740 or Isetta, we will all run against each other. Based on
registration, we may even run a BMW novice class for those
who have not autocrossed before. Having experience is not
as important as a willingness to have fun and learn some
new driving skills.
For those of you thinking of signing up for the handling
clinic in May, this would be a great opportunity to test out
your newly acquired skills before the high-speed driver’s
education event at Blackhawk Farms (end of June or late in
August).
Minors: for an autocross event, the age needed to participate is only 16 years with a valid driver’s license. But you
will need a wavier signed by both parents. This rule applies
also to minors who will come to watch and not drive. If you
are going to have a minor child join you, contact me ahead
of time for a minor-waiver form that can be signed ahead of
time.
Other details: bring lots of water since it is easy to dehydrate
being in the open all day. Typically there is also a high school
group handling the grills for burgers, hot dogs and the like.
Or, if you prefer, bring your own lunch and save the hassle of
running out to get something to eat.
So, plan to clean out your trunks, floor mats, glove boxes
and grab your helmets. Come along for a day of fun at Miller
Park. More information can be found on the SCCA Web site
Page 6
at: http://www.scca-milwaukee.org/Solo/2005/05sched.htm.
Or contact Paul Szedziewski at [email protected] or 414-2644343.
Let’s surprise the SCCA folks by showing up with 50 members
and their cars!
