Weekly Report
Monroe Chamber and City of Monroe Officials hosted a ribbon cutting for Specialty Management Services of
Ouachita (SMSO) last week. The business is at the corner of Catalpa and DeSiard Street in Monroe. SMSO is
owned and operated by Linda Holyfield and Terri Hicks.

Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne to Speak
at Monroe Chamber of Commerce 94th Annual Meeting and Banquet
The 94th Annual Monroe Chamber of Commerce Meeting and Banquet is
scheduled for Tuesday, February 10th at the Monroe Civic Center. The
Honorable Jay Dardenne, Lieutenant Governor for Louisiana, will give the
keynote address. Lieutenant Governor Dardenne serves as Commissioner of the
Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. These offices exist
to preserve, showcase and market Louisiana's rich cultural heritage to those
within and outside of our state. Additionally the Lieutenant Governor oversees
two commissions which make recommendations to our elected officials, the
Louisiana Serve Commission and the Louisiana Retirement Development
Commission.
Dardenne was reelected to a four-year term as Louisiana's Lieutenant Governor
in October 2011. He previously served one year in that position, filling an
unexpired term. He also served four years as Secretary of State and fifteen years
as a State Senator.
During his legislative service, he chaired the Senate Finance Committee. In
2003, he was named National Republican Legislator of the Year.
He is an active community volunteer, having hosted the Jerry Lewis Telethon
for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for more than thirty years.
Lieutenant Governor Dardenne conducts a presentation entitled "Why Louisiana
Ain't Mississippi," a lively and colorful look at Louisiana's culture, history,
music and politics.
He is an attorney and a graduate of Baton Rouge High School, Louisiana State
University and the LSU Law Center.
He is married to the former Cathy McDonald. They have two grown sons, John
and Matthew.

Krew of Janus Mardi Gras Parade.
Tuesday, February 10th at 6:00 p.m.-Monroe
Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and
Banquet. Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne will be the
keynote speaker. Cost for tickets is $40 per person.

Register NOW for the 2015 NELA Career Fair and Veteran’s Career Fair
Area employers are searching for good employees and they hope to find them at the 2015 Northeast Louisiana Job
Fair and Veterans Job Fair. The event will be held on February 18 th. The Veterans only portion of the Job Fair will
be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The NELA Job Fair will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Monroe
Civic Center. Admission to the event is free and open to area jobseekers. The event is hosted by the Monroe
Chamber of Commerce, Louisiana Works and the City of Monroe.
Additional sponsors for the event include JP Morgan Chase, Atmos Energy, Glenwood Regional Medical Center,
The News-Star, KTVE 10, Fox 14, the Radio People, DeltaStyle, the City of Monroe, Lagniappe Broadcasting, the
Northeast Louisiana chapter-Society for Human Resource Managers, and Region 8 Career Solutions Center are
hosting the Career Fair to help connect local businesses with veterans and people looking for jobs.
Staff members with the local Workforce Boards and the Louisiana Workforce Commission will be available to
help job applicants register with the Workforce Commission’s job bank for work search assistance. Registration is
recommended but not required. In addition, Workforce staff members will be on hand to assist with on line job
searches, job counseling and resume preparation. Several area training providers will also be on hand to provide
information for people who want to upgrade their skills and training.
The event is free for anyone looking for a job. The fee for employers who would like to have a booth is $100
which include a skirted table, a continental breakfast and lunch for two exhibitors.
