MONROE CHAMBER WEEKLY REPORT | Volume 16, Issue 18 What Ever Happened To Service? Customer service consistently gets poor marks from shoppers at major retailers and restaurants, according to a study released by WSL Strategic Retail, a consulting firm. Only 66 percent of retail customers were satisfied with their shopping experience…. Among the top complaints are rude staffs, dirty stores, long checkout lines and employees who aren't familiar with merchandise. Few of the major retailers are finding success in these areas, the study says. In other words… customer service is falling by the wayside. FACT: 68% of customers who stop doing business with a company do so because of perceived indifference. FACT: Customers who encounter poor service tell an average of 11 other people about their bad experience. FACT: Courting new business can cost up to five times more than strengthening relationships with current clients. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Disaster Field Operations Center - West reminded small, nonfarm businesses in 20 Louisiana parishes and neighboring Arkansas counties of the May 16, 2016, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by the drought in the following primary counties that began Sept. 8, 2015. Primary Louisiana parishes: Bienville, Caldwell, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland, Union and Webster; Neighboring Louisiana parishes: Bossier, Catahoula, East Carroll, Franklin, La Salle, Madison, Natchitoches, Red River, West Carroll and Winn; Neighboring Arkansas counties: Ashley, Chicot, Columbia, Lafayette and Union. According to Garfield, small nonfarm businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size may apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) of up to $2 million to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. "EIDLs may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that cannot be paid because of the disaster's impact," said Garfield. "SBA eligibility covers both the economic impacts on businesses dependent on farmers and ranchers that have suffered agricultural production losses caused by the disaster and businesses directly impacted by the disaster. EIDL assistance is available regardless of whether the applicant suffered any property damage," Garfield added. The interest rate is 4 percent for businesses and 2.625 percent for private nonprofit organizations with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by SBA and are based on each applicant's financial condition. Businesses primarily engaged in farming or ranching are not eligible for SBA disaster assistance. Agricultural enterprises should contact the Farm Services Agency about the U.S. Department of Agriculture assistance made available by the Secretary's declaration. However, nurseries are eligible for SBA disaster assistance in drought disasters. Applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA's secure website at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela. Disaster loan information and application forms are also available from SBA's Customer Service Center by calling (800) 659-2955 or emailing [email protected]. Individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing may call (800) 877-8339. For more disaster assistance information or to download applications, visit https://www.sba.gov/disaster. Completed applications should be mailed to U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX 76155. 8: 1:30 2:3 MONROE CHAMBER WEEKLY REPORT | Volume 16, Issue 18 33rd Annual Employer Seminar & Exposition West Monroe Convention Center Friday, May 20, 2015 from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM 7:30 – 8:00 REGISTRATION, CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST & VIEWING OF VENDOR BOOTHS 8:00 – 8:15 WELCOMING REMARKS & INTRODUCTIONS—Leigh Rodgers, President FIRST SESSION: “Culture Engineering – Bad Business Habits to Healthy Business Models”; Speaker: Sean Allen – Founder and CEO, Culture Stick SECOND SESSION: “Strategic Workplace Planning”; Speaker: Susan Word – Founder, forWord Connections, LLC LUNCH & VEIWING OF VENDOR BOOTHS THIRD SESSION: “Impact of Pending Legal Changes and Updates” ; Speaker: Price Barker – Partner, Kean Miller, LLP FOURTH SESSION: “Diversity and Cultural Competencies” ; Speaker: Ronnie Sloan – Founder and President, The Sloan Group FINAL SESSION: “Creating a Culture of Wellness – The Right Mix of an Old School & New School Approach”; Speaker: Lauren Swindell – Founder, mWell Solutions $80 – SHRM & NELA-SHRM Members $105 – Non-Members Continental Breakfast (7:30) and Lunch are included Proceeds from this seminar help fund our NELA-SHRM Chapter Scholarships at ULM, LA Tech, & Grambling Univ.
