Useppa Trip
June 10 - 9:15 a.m.-Check in at the Entrance of South
Seas Resort on Captiva • 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Useppa is a storybook setting with picturesque white
cottages, pink pathways and lush vegetation. In the
1920’s Useppa was the sport fishing Mecca for the rich
and famous. Publishing magnate Barron Collier built a
large home on the island to accommodate his wealthy and
influential friends for their tarpon fishing trips to the area.
Names such as Rockefeller, Dupont, Thomas Edison and
Henry Ford were all visitors to the island. The only way to
visit Useppa is to be a member, guest of a member or ride
with us at Captiva Cruises. Guests have the opportunity
to purchase lunch at the Collier Inn. You will also want
to visit the History Museum on the island. This superbly
done museum goes back in history to early man up to the
present day on Useppa. The museum is available for a
nominal charge. Your narrated cruise to Useppa will take
just over an hour, leaving you just over two hours on the
island to dine and see the sights. The hour cruise back
to Captiva is the perfect time to relax and take it all in.
Sorry there are no beaches on Useppa, so swimming and
shelling are not available. Minimum of 20 to hold group
rate. $35.00 per person, lunch on own. Please RSVP to the
HOA Office by Friday, June 3.

got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily,

Budget Update
For those who attended the annual meeting in March,
you may recall a proposed change to the allocation of
HOA assessments for 2011. After further review, the
Board of Directors has determined that no change in
assessments is necessary. Assessments will continue
to be evaluated as part of the annual budget approval
process. If you have any questions please contact your

Plant replacement
& sod installation.
Typically, April and May are the driest months of
the year. It’s before rainy season and the heat index is
high. Therefore, we postpone the vast majority of plant
replacement until June when the rains return. This
planned scheduling is an effort to minimize plant loss
due to a lack of water because the first thirty days are
critical for new plantings.
East Bonita Beach Stakeholders Association
A meeting of the East Bonita Beach Stakeholders
was held on May 17 at Hunters’ Ridge. Martha Simons,
City Councilwoman from District 5 was the principal
speaker. Martha is the city’s representative to the CREW
(Corkscrew Regional Estuary Watershed). Since the CREW
supplies all water for Bonita Springs, as well as the rest of Lee
and all of Collier Counties, its well being is of vital interest to
all of us here in Village Walk. Terry Brennen, a CREW trustee
gave a presentation on the importance of the CREW to both
human and wild life. We hope to have him visit Village Walk
in the fall and share his knowledge with all of us.
The new gun range on Bonita Beach Rd. was also discussed.
The range has been issued a cease and desist order by Lee
County. (Since their property is not part of incorporated
Bonita Springs, they fall under county jurisdiction.) Gun shots
are still being heard; however, and the issue has been reported
to Bill Lonkart, the city council rep for our district 6, who is
working with the county.
The proposed ST. Matthew’s shelter, the Cafe of Life,
remedies for seasonal flooding, plans for a new library, and
the paving of the remaining dirt roads in Bonita were among
other topics discussed.
The East Bonita Beach Stakeholders Association was
formed four years ago to deal with issues unique to our
part of Bonita Springs, such as residential and commercial
development, shooting ranges, hunting, etc. All communities
east of I75 are members, since we have mutual interests, for
the most part. For additional information, please contact Tom
or Sandy Gibbons at 239-949-1887 or Clement Ross at the
Town Center.

the pool surface. One pool will remain open while the
other pool undergoes this treatment.

Hurricane Season Begins
June 1 through November 30.
Hopefully this year will be a quiet year for
Hurricanes.
Shutters may be installed June 1 through November
30th if the home will be unoccupied for the Hurricane
Season. Reminder all shutters must come down or
reopen December 1, no exceptions.
Remember to take stock of what you have on the
exterior that needs to be secured during a hurricane or
while you are away: Potted plants, exterior umbrellas
and lanai furniture and exterior art décor all needs
to be secured or put away for the season, or prior
to a hurricane. Any small, loose items can become
missiles during these storms, causing a lot of damage to
property, screened cages and unprotected windows.
Check you pool enclosures and lanai cages for rusty
or brown or missing bolts and replace any found with
new bolts: this keeps them strongest in high winds.
Must haves in your ready-to-go
emergency kit:
• 1 gallon of drinking water per day per person
• Non-perishable ready-to-eat- food (canned foods/
milk, peanut butter, energy or granola bars, etc.)
