We are pleased that you’ve joined us for this gala event. As you look through the auction catalog, you’ll find something for everyone. The items range from vacation get-aways to dinner out, to items for your home or family. We hope you’ll take some time to look over all the beautifully crafted classroom projects and place your bids. The students and teachers have thoughtfully put together personalized items I’m sure you’ll treasure. They are truly gifts from the heart. The Fill-A-Need this year is a part of a campaign we’ve dubbed “Raise the Roof.” Over the next few years, we are going to do this both figuratively and literally at St. Mary’s School. Last year’s Fill-A-Need project resulted in the purchase of 100 ChromeBooks for the school. This summer, thanks to a very significant Ignite the Faith grant from the Archdiocese, we are “Raising the Roof” on technology even more. Twenty-one of our classrooms will be equipped with brand new access points, projectors, screens, surround sound stereo systems and Apple TV. This grant also includes all of the wiring upgrades needed to make the technology and learning in each of our classrooms truly state of the art. With this Ignite the Faith grant secured, our focus turns to ensuring that St. Mary’s School building itself remains a safe learning environment for our children and teachers in the years to come. We are in the beginning stages of identifying what “Raising the Roof” means over the next 5-10 years in regards to capital improvements throughout the school. The generous spirit and stewardship of parishioners, school families, and friends is appreciated. For the past 21 years, you have given of your time, talent, and treasure to help our children receive the gift of a Catholic education. This gift has been passed along and treasured by our alumni who have been evidence of success of the mission of St. Mary’s School, that is to provide a Catholic education that nurtures students’ heart and minds to become servant leaders in an ever-changing world. Thank you for your help in allowing us to continue to serve our students and their families. We would be remiss if we didn’t thank the numerous volunteers, benefactors, and sponsors. Without the efforts of so many people, the evening would not have been possible. Please enjoy the fellowship of the evening as we Spring for the Children once again. God bless you, Fr. Dennis A. The award will be presented at St. Mary’s annual benefit auction scheduled Saturday, April 9 at the Livestock Exchange Building in south Omaha. The Legner's have given tirelessly to both the school and parish. The duo co-chaired the annual “Spring for the Children” benefit auction in 2012 and 2013 when the event achieved a heightened level of fundraising. Both are still active with the fundraiser as committee chairs. The Legner’s also co-chaired the Ignite the Faith Capital Campaign at St. Mary’s in 2013. Christina has been involved with the Catholic Daughters of America and MOMS group through the parish. At the school she served as secretary of the Home and School Association (2013-14) chairing that group’s school Talent Show (2014-16), Spirit Wear program (2013-14) and Alumni Scholarship program (2014-2016). She has served as a school room parent (2011-2016) and coordinated games at Youth Ministry’s August Rush (2015). As a member of the School Development Committee since 2010 Christina has served on the Grants Committee (2010-2014), Adopt-A-Student Committee and Alumni Relations Committee (2014-2016) which she currently chairs. Member of Perpetual Adoration since 2014 and Project Hope since 2010. Ryan is a member of the Knights of Columbus Columban Council #6192, and has been active in St. Mary’s That Man is You program for the last five years. He’s been a head basketball coach at St. Mary’s since 2013 and served the local Cub Scouts program as Assistant Cub Master and Den Leader. Christina was born and raised in the St. Mary’s community. Her paternal grandparents became parishioners in the 1960’s. Her father, his siblings, Christina (1991), her siblings, and several cousins attended St. Mary’s School. Christina and Ryan were married at St. Mary’s in 2001 before moving to Illinois. They returned in 2006 and became parishioners of St. Mary’s in 2009 at which time they enrolled their four children there. Daughter Jamie graduated in 2015 and is a freshman at Gross Catholic. They have three sons at St. Mary’s including Owen (6th grade), Jacob (5th grade) and Logan (2nd grade). “We are both humbled and honored to be recognized in this way. We do our best to understand our strengths and weaknesses, what the needs of the community are and how we can help, and when to lead and when to get out of the way. We have been blessed and with open hearts, deep passion, and tireless motivation we are honored to share our blessings with St. Mary’s,” said the Legner's. It will save time at check-out. Here is how it works: 1. When you check-in your credit card will be swiped. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted. 2. Your credit card will only be processed on items that you won. 3. Relax and enjoy the night and don’t worry about long check-out lines. 4. During dinner you will receive an itemized invoice reflecting how much your credit card will be charged. If you have no additional purchases, pick up your items at the designated check-out area. 5. If you do have additional purchases (i.e. Live Auction Items) you will need to get an updated receipt from the cashiers. ~ Live Auction ~ The Live Auction will begin near the end of dinner and continue until all items have been sold. Items are displayed on an overhead screen and in the area by the stage. Each auction item is numbered. The Master of Ceremonies (MC) will call out the numbered item and give a brief description. Bidders can accept a bid called by the Auctioneer by raising their numbered paddle. A runner will bring a receipt to the successful bidder, who will write down his or her bid number, and sign it, confirming his/her successful bid. A runner will take the bid sheet to the Bank to be entered into the system. Items may be picked up from display by showing the auction worker your receipt stamped “Paid”. ~ Silent Auction ~ 1. Write your bid number and the amount of your bid on the bid sheet that corresponds with the displayed item upon which you wish to bid. ONLY LEGIBLE BID NUMBERS WILL BE VALID. 2. Each new bid must be written on the next blank line available on the bid sheet. Bids will be disqualified if the minimum raise is not honored. Bids may be higher than the minimum raise requirement. 3. The minimum opening bid default is calculated by our Greater Giving software package and then adjusted as needed. We try to honor donors’ minimum bid requests. Though a minimum opening bid is listed, the first bidder can list whatever amount at or above that minimum that they wish to pay for the item. 4. Minimum raises are listed on the bid sheets. A bid must always be at least that minimum more than the previous bid. For example, if a package’s minimum bid is $15 and has a minimum raise of $2 and the first bidder puts down $30, the next bid would have to at least be $32. 5. Bids must be in whole dollars. 6. The silent auction will be open for bidding at 5:00 p.m. and Sections will close at various times. No bids will be accepted after closings. 7. After a table section has closed, the auction workers will gather the bid sheets and take them to the Bank where they will be entered into the system. 8. When you are ready to leave, stop by the Bank to settle your bill (Bank open 8:00p-10:00p). Payments are accepted by cash, check, or credit card (Visa and MasterCard only). You will be issued a stamped “Paid” receipt which you will need to show at Pick-up (South Ballroom). 25 26 ~ Fill-A-Need ~ Tonight, through the Fill-A-Need, we are asking you to join us in “Raising the Roof” at St. Mary’s School. Your donation will help us cover the cost of the Spanish tile roof project. We have some specially designed items using the original Spanish tiles from the roof replacement begun in late February. A successful bid will allow you to take home a piece of St. Mary School history. Through your generosity, we hope to “Raise the Roof” and keep our building weather tight and solid for the next 40 - 60 years. This year the Parish will pay for over $60,000 in unbudgeted capital improvements at the school, including a new air conditioner unit, boiler pump replacements, pipe replacements, new freezer compressor and bat removal. Our most significant capital expenditure is the replacement of the membrane under the Spanish tiles on the south side of our building. The current membrane is the original one and over 60 years old. This project inspired the title “Raise the Roof.” Help us reach our goal and outfit the school with a new roof. Please donate to the Fill-A-Need level of your choice. Bidding will begin at $2000, then progress downward. Denominations will be: $2000, $1500, $1000, $750, $500, $250, $200, $100, $50, and $25. There is an opportunity for matching-funds, so listen for the challenge. Every dollar you contribute may be worth double towards this need. When you hear the auctioneer call the amount you want to contribute, raise your numbered paddle. Keep it raised until a runner brings a bid sheet to you. . 27 28 ~ Raffle ~ Be sure to purchase your tickets for our cash raffle. Tickets are only $10.00. Tickets will be sold up until 7:30 p.m. The drawing for all prizes will take place shortly after being seated for dinner. You do not need to be present to win. 1st Prize—$2000 2nd Prize—$1000 3rd Prize—$500 4th Prize—$250 ~ Giving Garden ~ Located throughout the ballrooms tonight are displays for our Giving Garden.
