Fundraising for the Rainbow Kitchen
The Victoria Rainbow Kitchen Society started out its
new fiscal year with a hugely successful Fundraising
Dinner & Auction event held at St. Matthias Anglican
Church Hall. On Saturday, April 9, 2011 over 100
people sat down to a delicious homemade beef stew
served with a wonderful salad, fresh buns and an
assortment of pies for dessert. A big thank you
goes out to the volunteers who made the stew and
salads, buttered buns, cut up pies, set tables,
served the meal, and cleaned up afterwards. And a
big thank you also goes out to our generous corporate suppliers for the donated ingredients for this
meal. We were enthusiastically entertained between the main course and dessert by the Men’s
Choir Dragon Song. They appeared to be having a
lot of fun performing on the stage. Judging by the
cheers, laughter and clapping, the audience was
having a lot of fun too. There was a wonderful
quantity and variety of auction items available, some
by “silent auction” and others by “live auction” made
even more lively by our incredible volunteer auctioneer, Mr. Roshan Vickery from Kilshaw’s Auctioneers
Ltd . A big thank you goes to individuals and businesses who donated the auction items, to the volunteers who collected the items and set up the auction
displays, and to Roshan for his auctioneering skills,
humour and enthusiasm.
The dinner tickets were $50 each, for which the at-
tendees not only got a delicious homemade meal,
musical entertainment, and an opportunity to buy
some treasures at auction, but also got a tax receipt
for the full $50, and had a lot of fun at the same
time. Combining the sales of dinner tickets, proceeds from the live and silent auctions, and donations received in lieu of dinner tickets, this event
raised a total of $11,500! This was a wonderful start
to our new fiscal year.
I’ve been asked many times if we are going to do
this kind of event again? And the answer is a resounding Yes! It will likely be in April 2012 – will
keep you posted as to place and date.
