I hope that my daughter, Sarah,
will be in your Women who Ride
this month.
This is a story about an overcomer, a champion, a believer
through challenges. She has
maintained a Christ filled loving heart. At the tender age of
3 Sarah went through her 1st divorce.. I re-married and about 8
years into the marriage my wife
decided to sow her oats. disconnected from the Church where
we both served in the children’s
ministry. She started to party. I
sought biblical counseling and a
team to support me to rebuild.
But, she wanted nothing to do
with that. We divorced after 10
years. During the last year Sarah’s mom passed away. It was on
new year’s day. She stayed over a
friends house. I was late picking
her up, and decided to stop by
my brother’s house in Redlands,
since she was living in Palm Desert. On the way over there I got
a phone call from her neighbor.
Sarah’s mom is dead. “Do not
let her go into the house,” they
said. We went next door and she
got the news. She had about 10
weeks left in the 8th grade and
was also performing in a play at
the Date Festival. I decided to let
her stay at a friends house (Christian, ha) to at least finish the
school year out. The challenges
began. Sarah is strong willed but,
kind. She signed over her mom’s
car to these people. I drove out
there 3-4 times a week to see her.
And take her to practice at the
date festival. Keeping in communication with the school and
her residence. They said that
Sarah was being disruptive and
disrespectful. It just got worse.
She was not liking it there either.
About 6 weeks before graduation they called me and said they
couldn’t take it anymore and
wanted Sarah out of their house.
Since I was going through a divorce and staying with a friend,
they welcomed Sarah into their
home.
MAY 2016
Sarah is a magnet and adapts.
She still graduated middle school
with honors.
The last week and the last day of
High School cheer tryouts, she
learned the routine in 1 hour that
the other girls were struggling
to learn in the week prior. As
a Freshman, she made the J.V.
squad and the Varsity Competition Squad. Got to participate in
Varsity Games. That was a great
year and a boost Sarah needed.
She also inherited her mom’s
sportster.
At 15 we started practice in the
driveway. For hours we worked
on the basic skills. Then we
moved up the street to a school
and practiced more. She learned
really fast for someone never being on a bike before. I bought
an FXR and we started riding
around town, even before she got
her license. She got her permit
and I escorted her to school. She
was now a biker chick. 2011 with
a learners permit we rode to Hollister Rally with my brother. We
also moved out into a condo together. We had our share of challenges but, through God’s grace
we overcame. Just before she was
18 Sarah wanted to move out. So
she did. In 2015 Sarah was in a
serious motorcycle accident which
she almost lost her leg. A severe compound fracture which required 3 surgeries, a rod, a plate, muscle and skin
graphs. This occurred just prior to her
High School graduation.
She has now healed, rode a rice rocket for a while but, has now stepped up
to a Harley. Her passion is riding &
photography. Not to mention a love
for the Lord and children. Her club
name is Charity. Oh, and she is the
President of the OC chapter of Reckless Playground started in September
2014.
I am so blessed to have such a beautiful daughter..
Respectfully,
Chris Perez

Tests Confirm the
Viability of The
TerraCraft
CoPilot
Interactive Lean
Control System (ILCS).
EL LAGO, TEXAS (near the NASA Johnson Space
Center) – April 12, 2016 – TerraCraft Motors Inc.
of El Lago, Texas has successfully completed the
testing phase of their new TerraCraft CoPilot
System. The TerraCraft CoPilot is a revolutionary
lean control system which brings two-wheeled
motorcycle performance to three-wheeled, trike
vehicles.
“The CoPilot utilizes a proprietary network of
sensors and an intelligent controller to lean trikes
into turns exactly as an experienced rider would
lean a traditional, two-wheeled motorcycle. By
creating an ‘expert rider model’ in the software,
the CoPilot system is able to adapt to all road
forces and conditions then respond in a fraction
of the time required by a human rider.” explains
Hank Jones, TerraCraft Electrical Engineer.
Manual controls still allow the rider to anticipate
events and enjoy true counter-steering and steerby-leaning exactly as on a motorcycle, while the
autonomous CoPilot maintains an unprecedented
factor of safety and performance.
MAY 2016
“The CoPilot’s ability to fully
sense and respond to the road
makes the TerraCraft riding
experience safer, smoother and
more comfortable than any fixed
body vehicle” touts TerraCraft
Founder and CEO Wes Abbott.
“On paper, we understood the
functionality, but we were thrilled
to discover the actual ride of the
SuperTrike is ‘organic’ …instead
of working against physics, the
vehicle works with physics in a
powerfully elegant way” states Chief Mechanical
Engineer, Eric Kuehnel. “This really changes
everything about the global trike market.”
Andrew Thomson, Co-Founder of TerraCraft
Motors Inc. states, “We are thrilled to have the
technology extensively tested and now ready.
With the increased trike sales projected in the
next 5 years, we believe by offering a safer, more
exciting, higher performing SuperTrike, we can
significantly impact the market with unique
designs, custom builds and/or licensing CoPilot
technology to industry manufacturers.”
TerraCraft Motors Inc. is a small team originating
from NASA contractors at the Johnson Space
Center in Houston, Texas with over 253 years of
combined aerospace experience. The company
was founded by individuals from the human
spaceflight operations, spacecraft testing and
extreme environment engineering realms which
makes the TerraCraft SuperTrike and its CoPilot
Interactive Lean Control System (ILCS) a vehicle
actually designed by rocket scientists.
“Our NASA backgrounds have allowed us to
think quite differently about how to create a safer,
more stable and higher-performance super-trike.
TerraCraft Motors Inc. is now ready to engage the
world-wide trike market in a very exclusive way.”
says Christopher Leslie, TerraCraft External
Relations.

ILCS technology or custom builds, visit their website at

It all starts on Saturday, May 21st which happens to be ARMED
FORCES DAY! RASF Wall of Remembrance will be there. Join
Grand Marshall “Bruno,” an Anaheim Police Dog who was shot in
the line of duty and hundreds of motorcycles for an escorted ride from
Lifestyle Cycles to The America Ride event site at Lakeview Park
in Irvine. We are proud to announce the 9/11 Angels presented by
fueledbythefallen.org will be involved with leading the ride to the
event, following directly behind The Fire Department!
“22 to Zero”
What is The America Ride and Music Festival ?
The America ride and Music Festival is a twoday family event consisting of a motorcycle ride,
music festival and tribute to our military heroes
created for the benefit of the Patriotic Service
Dog Foundation (a non-profit organization).
It is estimated that over 500,000 Veterans from
the Iraq and Afghanistan war alone suffer from
post-traumatic stress disorders, traumatic brain
injuries, amputations and other mental and
physical disabilities. Much worse, twenty-two of
our military heroes take their lives everyday!
The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing highlytrained service dogs to our military heroes. It
allows them to become more independent, selfconfident and comfortable with life after military
service.
Through a partnership of volunteers and
professional trainers, Veterans can develop a
lasting and meaningful bond with dogs that
provide much more than companionship. We are
proud to announce that none of these Veterans
who have received these service dogs have taken
their own lives; thus our motto and continuing
goal, “22 to Zero”.
The America Ride & Music Festival is the vision
of Mark Skolnick, “Junior” of Lifestyle Cycles
and Tom Tackett Executive Director of (PSDF)
The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation. After
becoming the parent of a Black Labrador Puppy,
Junior sought the expertise of professional dog
trainer Tom Tackett to properly train his new
puppy. Having always had an interest in Veterans
and dogs, Junior soon realized Tom’s talents
reached far beyond basic training and a new
passion emerged!
Pairing his philanthropic instincts and desire to
help others and with Tom’s passion for providing
Service Dogs to our Military Heroes who
desperately needed them, The America Ride &
Music Festival was born!
The America Ride and Music Festival’s Planning
Committee consists of carefully selected
business and industry professionals who are
volunteering their time for the planning and
staging of this event. The event is fortunate to
have The Freeman Company - Producers of
exhibitions and convention exhibits including
NAMM and SEMA, Quick Throttle Magazine
– the most widely distributed V-Twin motorcycle
lifestyle magazine in the West celebrating it’s
15th Anniversary the weekend of the event!
Lifestyle Cycles, California’s largest reseller
of used Harley-Davidson’s, The Law Tigers
- Motorcycle Attorney’s and many more
dedicated and highly skilled individuals sharing
and participating in this vision and passion.
100% of the funds collected go directly to The
Patriotic Service Dog Foundation! The PSDF
is a fiscally sponsored project of OneOC which
means the Foundation is held to extremely
high standards. Since the event is volunteerdriven, overhead and administrative expenses
are expected to be minimal! The goal for the
Foundation is to retain in excess of 80% of gross
proceeds.
“This inaugural event is beginning to receive
recognition as something not to be missed.” say’s
Junior at Lifestyle Cycles
Now that you know the who and the why of the
event, I’m sure you’d like to know more about
the what and the where.
In attendance will be some of America’s best
tribute bands like Saga Strings – an all-girl rock
band who play violins in ways you’ve never seen
them played before. These girls are talented and
beautiful ! Kim Martin Band, Noise Pollution
– AC/DC tribute band, Master of Puppet, Jay
Gordon’s Blues Venom, Skynyrd Reloaded, The
Anonymous Band, Bobby Cochran of Steppenwolf,

Westboro Baptist Church
Announce Plans To Protest
2016 Motorcycle Rallies

against Westboro Baptist Church at Center on Halsted”, © 2008 Michael Lehet
Westboro Baptist Church spokesperson Lisa Greer confirmed that arrangements have been made for Westboro Baptist Church members to attend and
protest multiple motorcycle rallies throughout 2016.
According to Greer, upwards of 78 Westboro Baptist Church members plan
to attend several American motorcycle rallies throughout 2016. Greer told
Kansas reporters that the attending Westboro Baptist Church members would
be in “full protest mode” and would have “plenty of signs to go around”.
A generated by theme
When asked why the organization plans to protest motorcycle rallies, Greer
made the following statement to reporters, “these (motorcycle rallies) are a
haven for inappropriate sexual activity and rampant drug use.” Greer explained to Kansas ABC affiliate reporter Dan Walters, “Several motorcycle
clubs across the country support the American soldiers and veterans who
blindly fought overseas to provide homosexuals with the right to openly and
legally commit sins against Jesus Christ – our mission is to educate.”
According to Greer, the Westboro Baptist Church has already made arrangements to attend the following motorcycle rallies – Sturgis Motorcycle Rally,
Rolling Thunder, Bikes Blues and BBQ, Love Ride, Laconia Motorcycle
Week, Indiana Boogie, Laughlin River Run, Mrytle Beach Bike Week, and
the Redwood Run. Greer told reporters that contingent upon budgetary allotments, the organization may also attend additional rallies throughout the
year.
The Westboro Baptist Church has shown no sign of slowing down since the
March 2014 death of the organization’s founder Fred Phelps. The church
which has been classified as a ‘hate group’ by the Southern Poverty Law
Center made headlines multiple times throughout the last 2-years for their
disruptive protests at military funerals and all around hateful behavior.
Helen Leigh, a 62-year old citizen of Sturgis, South Dakota, told reporters
that her community is troubled by the claims made by the Westboro Baptist
Church. Leigh told reporters that she fears the presence of Westboro Baptist
Church members at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally will evoke violent behavior
among rally attendees.
According to Greer, the first motorcycle rally that her organization plans to
attend and protest is the 34th annual Laughlin River Run hosted in Laughlin,
Nevada. The 2016 Laughlin River Run will take place April 27th – 30th.

Chris,
I enjoyed your “Letter from the Editor” in the April 2016 issue of QT. I have
always wondered how QT stays going as a free publication with only ads paying
for everything. Clearly, it sounds like it can be touch and go sometimes. I fully
intend to join the “QT Riders Club” in support of QT (I would rather pay $50
for what you offer over $30-$35 for any of the bigger publications).
I was always a “dirt bike” guy from age 9 to my late 20’s. I got out of bikes for
a while, then in my late 30’s I got back into “Dual Sport” bikes for a short time.
At age 43 I was talked into getting a Harley by my brother (who had tried for
years to get me on one). I found a used FXST, fell in love, sold my dual sport and
never looked back. Now, at age 55, I have upgraded to a CVO Streetglide and I
am now a “local chapter P” of an international MC that has 190+ chapters and
nearly 5000 members. Fifteen years ago, I would have never guessed this would
happen to me.
I picked up my first copy of QT in SoCal in late 2006.
I enjoyed it and I also saw that you had a section on
“Women who Ride”. We had just bought my wife
an XL-1200C. I snapped some pics of her and sent
them to QT along with a Bio of her. About a month
later, I received an e-mail thanking me for sending
in her Bio and that QT was going to hold on to it
for a few months because QT wanted to put her Bio
in the next Anniversary edition. As promised, she
was in the April 2007 “6th Anniversary” edition
QT in the “Women who Ride”
section. I still have that cover
and Bio page from that issue
framed in our garage. My wife
still rides her own bike today at
age 52 and has put on 25,000
+ miles so far. After we retired
and moved to Arizona, she
actually went back to work
at the local Harley Davidson
dealer here where we now live
in the Motorclothes section.
Thanks for your hard work and
providing a great magazine!

Traci n I started our
“Pre-bike-week” at
the: EAGLERIDER MUSIC
FEST: This event started
Friday April 1st ending
Saturday April 2nd.
Friday:
We saw the bands: Slaughter and Great
White...we have seen both bands before in
Laughlin, Nevada during “The Laughlin
River Run Rally”. ... Traci loved the timeless
“Save All Your Love” by
then band Great White. My
personal feelings still remain
the same as far as Jack
Russell…. Even though the
replacement
Singer(Terry
IIous) of the band Great
White is good, I still feel the
original singer(Jack Russell),
who sings in the band “Jack
Russell’s Great White”,
has the better voice… We
did meet some “die hard”
Great White fans, one
being a very pretty gal from
20
Brazil(Carrie) who has, since the concert,
been requesting photos, of her, with Great
White’s drummer(Audi Desbrow) and the
guitarist(Michael Lardie) that we took , both
original members…
November
2015.
Analog Outlaws were
followed
by
COOP, Shayne, and the
headliner Jackyl. Jackyl
absolutely killed it on
stage; I have rarely seen
a performer work the
crowd with the type
of energy that Jesse
James Dupree did this
beautiful April night
in Tempe Arizona…
As was the case with
the Novemberfest show
here at EagleRider Tempe this venue, layout,
stage, VIP, even the venders were catered to
the fans… You could literally talk to the
performers, whether it was before Saturdays
run, where Jesse James Dupree(Jackyl) sat
at a table in the Half Moon lounge, or after
the Slaughter/Great White show attendees
could meet their favorite rock star…get
photos… I did find out an interesting fact
about the band Jackyl… seems they buy
quite a few Chainsaws because airlines
don’t take to kindly on trying to board
airplanes with them in hand…which …I
was told…happened a timer or two…
Toward the end of the Jackyl show, with
a new Skil Chainsaw in one hand and a ½
SaturdayThe charity ride started at the Half Moon
Sports Grill where we met up with Rick
& Julie Hatch owners of Eaglerider, Jesse
Dupree, lead singer from
Jackyl, and Ed Leclare,
Eaglerider events MC.
The charity ride this year
benefited the Alice Cooper
Solid Rock Foundation
for teens in our local
community. Solid Rock’s
primary mission is to
make a difference in the
lives of teens in the community by offering
a safe, engaging environment during nonschool hours –a time when they are most
vulnerable to drugs, violence, and gangs.
Maintaining the idea that “a teen’s worst
enemy is too much time on their hands,”
Solid Rock provides music, arts, vocational
programs and fellowship that challenge
teens to discover their passion through
music, dance, self-expression, and creativity.
You can find out more about Solid Rock at
www.alicecoopersolidrock.com.
Rick, Jesse and
Ed lead the ride
to the Eaglerider
music fest. The
first band on
stage was a teen
band,

gallon of whiskey
in the other Jesse
proceeded to saw
a wooden stool
in half…then smashing it not unlike Peter
Townsend from the band “The Who” did
with his guitar Back in the DAY!...tossing
the splintered pieces into the frenzied
crowd. We were able to spend time with
lead singer Jesse from Jackyl and Mark
Blades the bass player from “Christopher
Shayne” who was sporting a parrot green
Mohawk.
event which took place early
morning and ended at 2pm
with a group ride to Cave
Creek. This event was packed
full of fun: live music, raffles,
free BBQ lunch and bike show.
The speed shop and bike shop
were open with tons of in store
specials. The people’s choice
ride in bike show categories
included bagger, Sportster,
Club Style, Vintage, Custom,
Metric and Best of Show. Wait
is that Mark Blade’s green
Mohawk? ... yup it is Mark the
Bass player from “Christopher
Shayne” the night before.
Mark was moonlighting with
the vintage rock band in attendance. As I
promoted this event I mentioned that they
have the best Raffle of AZ BikeWeek,
these are not crummy door prizes, these
are cool things that bikers love; Pipes, bars,
electronics, luggage, led kits, Helmets…
you name it. Just for showing up folks get a
free meal(hotdogs, hamburgers, pop,
water) ticket, a Raffle ticket, and if
you want 5 more raffle tickets they
ask that you buy a Ramjets T-Shirt
for 15 bucks… they are cool shirts…
Inside tip: It’s worth it to buy the
shirts… your chances are like 5050 that you win something with the
extra 5 tickets. There were some folks
trading prizes with each other… just
plane fun times. There was a multiclass bike show…all peoples choice.
Back to the Raffle: I really wanted
a set of bars that were on the table,
luckily a friendly bike club member
won them and I offered him 100.00.
Sunday: Ramjet & SteelHorse
We started our Sunday at Ramjet Racing
16th Annual Customer Appreciation free
21
He sold them to me…BOOM
I made 400.00! After I made
the deal I jumped up and down
and yelled I won!…I won!... I
guess you had to be there…
thinking back…. not many
folks thought it was funny
then either…Traci laughed…
that’s why I married her.
After Ramjets we spent the
afternoon at the SteelHorse
Saloon’s Trifecta which went
until the bar closed. The

I rolled into the George S. Patton

plenty of parking. (Caution: loose

the paved parking next door). For a
good overview of Patton, this will
not disappoint. Of course once I

and admire the 2016 Indian, then tell
me about the one they had, or the
one someone they know had. All

Indian
Part One – First Impressions
Story and photos by Ray Seidel
To get a good feel of the new Springfield Indian
I decided to do a day trip from Temecula, CA
to the General George S. Patton Museum at
Chiriaco Summit. Now, this is a big bike at 852
lbs. fueled up (about 200 lbs. more than my
Gilroy Indian, 300 more than my Scout daily
driver). Not necessarily TOO heavy, as our petite
5’ 4” contributing photographer Geri Cidot
owns two Chiefs (Vintage and the even heavier
Chieftain) and rides both with aplomb (see Feb
issue). Backing the Springfield down my inclined
driveway, it takes a bit of leg muscle to continue
24
to push it back further onto the street proper to
aim it down the street. Can be a handful stopped
or slowly maneuvering initially. I’ll just cheat
and crank the handlebars and power out. A nice
feature of the Springfield is lock to lock steering
and it’s very generous, allowing for tight turns.
Once underway with my feet on the floorboards,
I automatically try to up shift to 2nd gear with my
heel. Oops, no heel shift, this is toe shift only. But
not to worry, a heel shift is available as a separate
purchase if you want one. The actual shifting
takes just a bit of getting use to, it is not feather
light as on the Scout, so I had to position my size
12 boots to find the sweet spot for up shifts, while
down shifts were a breeze. The transmission is
flawless, with no missed shifts. Minor stuff.
However the thing that takes getting acclimated
to is the delay in the fly by wire throttle. Throttle
response on the new Scout is instant, whereas
at least on this Springfield it would take a lot of
turn on the throttle grip before the engine would
wake up to allow releasing the clutch. With time,
one would program their brain to balance clutch
and a lot of twist of the throttle to pull from a
stop, but this could be improved.
Okay, we’re under way. The dash has LOTS
of information which we’ll get to next issue.
For now I’m just keeping it simple; speed, trip
odometer (there is trip 1 and trip 2), and on the
left you are told what gear you’re in. Also, there’s
a VERY easy to read fuel gauge, marked when
fuel is low. In daylight the LCD is easy to read
when the sun is overhead, in the shade not so
much. At night the dash lights up in bomber
pilot red. Rolling down the road I knew what
to expect, having ridden the Vintage: the engine
purrs along VERY smoothly. The ride? Some
bikes will transmit every tar strip up through the
handlebars and knock your fillings out. Indians
(including the Scout) roll without the jitters, even
over potholes. I love it!
I opted to take the back roads out of Temecula
to the museum, along the 79, 341, and the super
scenic 74 to Interstate 10 eastbound. Lots of
low speed twisties to try out the new 25° rake,
and it takes every turn with ease. If you have a
chance to hop on Hwy 74, do so. Great road,
scenery, and with a pull out for viewing. Once
on the Interstate I could open it up, and passing

owned diner (since 1933) with the
usual favorites, and also a gift shop.
You can fill up at the Chevron here,
which also has a Foster’s Freeze
inside. I fueled up, reset the trip
odometer, and decided to take the
magic carpet ride return trip home
on the Interstates to get a feel for
the bike at speed, and what the gas
mileage might be at a lazy pace.
I’ve ridden many times on Interstate
10 westbound by Yucca Valley
and Cabazon, populated with
wind turbines and heavy, heavy
headwinds. Many times it would
take a wide open throttle on my bike
(and other bikers near me) to push
through and try to keep the speed up.
The Springfield didn’t even notice.
This bike comes with a windshield
MAY 2016
right out of the box. It’s short
enough to allow some breeze in hot
weather to keep you cool, and high
enough to block the cold in winter.
For me, I could easily see over it.
Back on home turf after 130 miles,
the fuel gauge says still half full
(or half empty
for pessimists)
at 41.9 mpg.
Not
bad
at
all. (40.8 mpg
going through
the
twisties).
I
stopped
by our local
watering
hole
– the Temecula
Beer and Wine
Garden – for a
cold one and a
cigar, and live
entertainment.
(Note to bikers who have come
here, or plan to - a recent brawl
means a new policy of no cuts or
colors. Yeah, thanks for ruining it
for the rest of us). The hard bags are
remote control for locking, and I put
away my jacket and gloves for safe
keeping. Included on this bike are
rear passenger FLOORBOARDS,
plus you get front and rear highway
bars. A lot of bang for the buck, for
sure.
This bike was great on my first full
day out in the saddle, though I would
like to see quicker response with
the throttle. Stay tuned for the full
report next month on living with the
Indian Springfield, and follow us on
Facebook for updates.

Harley-Davidson’s comprehensive
Project Rushmore upgrades brought
even more refinement to the Street
Glide motorcycle. From the windtunnel-tested fairing to the keyless
ignition system, plus serious lighting
and braking upgrades, Project
Rushmore brought a host of details
that add up to more than the sum of
their parts. The most iconoclastic
feature is the new Twin-Cooled
Twin Cam 110 engine, and no
matter what you think about mixing
oil and water, a cooler engine and
more power is always better. This
of course mandates the necessity
of lower farings which house the
radiator and fans. The 110 ci Twin
Cam heats up here in the southwest
and Twin-Cooling is a big plus.

underneath the voluptuous

The Street Glide motorcycle
is the Motor Company’s
most popular bike for many
reasons. From the beautifully

engine to the batwing
fairing and unmistakable

Harley incarnate: a single
street machine that is “the
motorcycle”. It’s the mount
of choice for fans of badass

In short, the Street Glide

pair of hard bags—means the CVO
motorcycle group starts with solid
raw material. So instead of throwing
the parts and accessories book at the
CVO Street Glide, the team took a
more measured approach creating
a premium, exclusive HarleyDavidson motorcycle while keeping
the stripped-down attitude and style.
Harley CVO struck that balance:
beautifully!
Turning an already iconic
and purposeful HarleyDavidson motorcycle into a
CVO machine is more than
an exercise in piling parts
on the bike. The finished
product has to be a coherent
statement, a unified blend
of art, power, and tradition.

On the styling front, the CVO Street
Glide motorcycle gets some help in
the form of a set of polished chrome
Aggressor wheels, 19 inches in the
front and 18 inches in the back. And
while handsome wheels will always
turn heads, there’s something new
lurking under the skin: a stereo that
puts almost everything on the road to
shame, no matter how many wheels
we’re talking about. The 2016 CVO
Street Glide motorcycle packs an all
new Boom! Audio System, boasting
a total of 600 watts of power from a
pair of amplifiers, all integrated into
the 6.5-inch touch display in the
fairing. Who said luxury cars are the
only places you’ll find sophisticated
infotainment systems like this,
and the 120 page owner’s manual
supplies ample bedtime reading
material.
First and foremost: the engine. Any
custom worth its salt needs the
power to back up the boasts made
by the paint, chrome and other
unique touches, and the CVO Street
Glide motorcycle delivers. The
Twin Cam 110 motor, pumps out
the kind of torque that gives asphalt
nightmares: 115.1 foot-pounds, to
be exact. It breathes in through a
Screamin’ Eagle air cleaner that
proudly displays the displacement,
so there’s no doubt that you’ll be
checked out at stoplights. At 865
lbs. this bike launches frighteningly
fast on freeway onramps and the
dual muffler exhausts kick out a
throaty growl full throttle.
Check out that rear end: extended
bags add visual length and a
purposeful stance, while the rear
fender blends in seamlessly with
color-matched rear inserts, all
integrated to frame the purposeful
exhaust tips for a serious, musclebike-inspired look. Even smoother

or hardware to distract from the
CVO Street Glide motorcycle’s

with the factory quality and
craftsmanship you only get from
Harley-Davidson’s CVO branch.
Other handsome details include
custom Rumble Collection grips,
pegs, and floorboard inserts, plus
custom French stitching on the
saddle and backrest.
It’s a good thing the rear end is so
handsome, because, thanks to the
bike’s engine most will be seeing
a lot of it. That powerful Twin
Cam 110 sends its message to
the road through the continually
developed Cruise Drive six-speed
transmission. ABS is standard
with a trio of modern four-piston
calipers clamping down on another
trio of big 12-inch rotors. The CVO
motorcycle team dove into the
suspension to keep the experience
premium. The key was to give the
bike that slammed custom bagger
stance that everyone loves while
handling well, staying comfortable,
and doing it all with luggage and
a passenger: no easy task. CVO
motorcycle engineers strategically
separated
the
compression
and rebound damping duties
between the two rear shocks, with
compression duties in the right
hand shock and rebound in the left.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System,
TPMS is exclusive to the CVO
this year. The purpose is to warn
you that at least one or more tires
are significantly under-inflated,
possibly creating unsafe driving
conditions. The TPMS low tire
pressure indicator is a yellow
symbol that illuminates on the
dashboard instrument panel in the
shape of a tire cross-section (that
resembles a horseshoe) with an
exclamation point.
As is the slipper clutch, I really like
this feature. Harley claims not only
will the new clutch improve traction
on the road in any condition it
also reduces the force up to 30 %
less required to engage the clutch.
A motorcycle slipper clutch is a
clutch that is designed to lessen
the effects of engine braking on
your motorcycle. It was originally
designed for high performance race
motorcycles to help riders as they
let off the gas when coming into a
corner. This prevents the rear wheel
from locking up and bouncing all
over the place when you down
shift. This of course can cause loss
of control of the motorcycle and
even damage to the drive train of
the motorcycle.
Lucky owners of 2016 CVO
Street Glide motorcycles have four
delicious colors to choose from:
This year features options on both
ends of the showstopper scale. On
the subtle-but-beautiful end, you
have Carbon Crystal with Phantom
Flames as well as Black Licorice
with Midnight Cobalt Flames both
whispering “luxury” while letting
craftsmanship speak for itself.
But if you want them to see your
CVO motorcycle coming a mile
away, check out White Amethyst
with Black Licorice Flames, and
the shimmering metal flakes in the
Atomic Red with Candy Apple
Flames. (Shown in story).
want to soak up all things CVO past
to present I suggest you go and…
buy the book.
This year, I believe this Street
Glide harkened back to the essence
of very first Street Glide CVO.
Pushing it to the front of the 2016
CVO lineup, it’s a shining example
of how much motorcycle you can
pack into such a versatile chassis
while maintaining the stripped,
slammed profile this model is
known for. But as a motorcycle,
it glides to the front of the pack:
the king of the baggers. Harley
-Davidson has once again raised the
bar, defining what is CVO. They do
it every year: by the book. If you

My first experience
was on a press ride
with a dozen other

through the day we all
decided to swap bikes.
The smart ones had
tossed the fobs in the
saddle bags but the
rest of us had them
in our jacket pockets.
The bikes all started
up just fine and we
went our separate
ways.
Needless to
say, later that day the
half a dozen phone

marooned

Once the bike turned

That was just the

That’s when I learned
about the start codes

You better

Finally there’s the

Story by Smiles
Photos by Smiles and Tucker
March in the Phoenix Valley is always a
busy time for riding, as the weather is usually
picture perfect. Last weekend was truly no
exception to that. There were multiple rides
and events going on throughout the valley. I
chose to attend the Phoenix
Wounded Vets Run. This was
the 3rd year for this run here in
the valley, and one that I have
attended and covered since its
inaugural year in 2014 and
there was no way I was going
to miss this run.
The Wounded Vets run originated
out of Boston in 2011, at the
inspiration of a man named
Andy Biggs. Andy has spent
many volunteer hours in Boston
fine tuning this ride, and has also
expanded this run to at least a
dozen different cities throughout
the United States and even one
overseas.
Joe Stazione, president of the
Infidel Nation here in Phoenix, is
the person who has helped to develop the
run locally over the past 3 years to get it to
what it is today. Joe was approached by
Andy a couple years prior to the first run
with the idea to get involved and bring
it to Phoenix. He took the idea back to
his club brothers where they decided to
run full force with it. Phoenix was the
2nd successful state to have a run of this
36
nature.
The purpose of this run is to identify a
veteran who has suffered injury, both
mental and physical, while serving our
country, and to honor his sacrifices.
This veteran, the hero, is the focal point
of the entire event. All the
proceeds that are raised
as a result of this event
are gifted to the honoree
for housing, medical and
other personal expenses
to help them through their
life. “They fought, We
ride”
This year, the honoree was
Lance Corporal Phillip
Quintana. Lance Corporal
Quintana was in the
USMC 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines
for a year before deploying. He was
in for about 3 years before being
medically retired. In 2005, his
company was sent to Assadabad
Afghanistan. From there, Heavy
Weapons CO split off and went
to Camp Blessing. On September
29th, 2005, they were stopped,
awaiting word from EOD. Once cleared to move, they drove
over the 3rd IED (improvised explosive device), which ultimately
blew up, severely injuring Lance Corporal Quintana and those
with him. He landed on his head, compressing his spine which
resulted in breaking the lower part of it. He suffered multiple tibia
and fibula fractures and the skin getting blown off his leg. He
endured 30 surgeries after being rescued and flown to Germany
and four more once he arrived back in Arizona. The last surgery
was to remove his leg in May of 2015.
This year, there were a couple of other components that were
introduced to the event as well. One of which was the presence
of the 22Kill initiative. This initiative is to help prevent and
also bring awareness to the (on average) 22 veterans a day that
MAY 2016
commit suicide due to PTSD (post traumatic
stress disorder) and other related service injuries.
Jimmy Mac, one of the main advocates out of
Texas, flew in for this event because he was so
impressed with the way the ride was coordinated
and ran. All around, people had 22 Kill rings,
black rings that are worn on the right hand,
trigger finger, in support of this vital, important
cause. The message is getting out there about
the importance of recognizing these symptoms
in our Veterans and being able to direct them to
help, or knowing who to turn to who can reach
out and be there for these individuals.
One veteran who didn’t make it was Sergeant
Andrew Davis (USMC) from Texas.
He
committed suicide as
a result of the PTSD
he suffered and service
related illnesses. Jimmy
Mac had his dress
blues, his cover, and
his dog tags. He built
a beautiful shadow
box and respectfully
presented these items,
along with a 22kill
ring, inside the shadow
box. This shadow box
was given to Sergeant
Davis’ mother during
the opening ceremonies
of
the
Phoenix
Wounded Vets run. It
was a highly charged
and emotional moment
for all who were there.
After
the
opening
ceremonies were completed, about 450-500
bikes headed out for an escorted ride through
the beautiful desert scenery for about 30 miles
to the end party location. There, good food
and libation was offered up, along with several
vendors, and good music. There were great
raffle items, including a couple of firearms from
Knockout Firearms.
The weather was beautiful, the sky was blue and
everyone had a fabulous time riding and raising
money to go to Lance Corporal Quintana.
At the time this article went to print, a final
count of the money raised hadn’t been made yet,
but it was well in the thousands of dollars.
MAY 2016
This ride continues to
grow each year, and the
Infidel Nation (which
has basically become
synonymous with the
Phoenix
Wounded
Vets Run) says that
their intention is to
continue to ride in the
honor of the wounded
vets,
especially
as
long as they are still
over there fighting.
They will continue to
raise awareness and
support throughout the nation,
along with Andy and the other
chairmen from cities throughout
the country.
I look forward to continue being
a part of the PWVR in the years
to come, and am excited for us
to reach the attendance that the
Boston Wounded Vets Run
has. They have a couple years
on us, but their attendance is
approximately 7000 bikes that
ride (and that number is also
growing each year)
I also look forward to seeing
each of you at the 4th PWVR
next year!!

PATRICK EBERHARDT:
MEMORIAL RIDE & CHARITY AUCTION
RAISES $21,121.00 ALL DONATED
TO CHILD CRISIS ARIZONA
Patrick Eberhardt was a full patched member
of the Cave Creek Hell’s Angels. Traci and
I did a piece on this event in Quick Throttle
Magazine’s S/W and Calif editions last
month. Thinking to ourselves... “man, this
is Easter Sunday, most folks are going to
have plans”. What to do? Then, like a light
bulb going on, we look up at our TV an see
on the local news that Mesa Chapter of the
Hell’s Angels MC have rented the Pollock
Tempe Cinemas, in AZ to show the movie;
“History of the Hell’s angels MC”...Of
course the alert on the news was that: possible
“Gang” activities may happen and would
be there enough cops to quell this...Please!
The only disturbance was a woman that was
distraught over the owner of the parking lot
towing her car that had been parked in the
area roped off for motorcycles, and she was
blaming the Hell’s angels, of course... her car
had been parked there for 3-days...The movie
attendants comprised of people just wanting
to see a good movie...which was a lot of fun
by the way.
OK...back to my “Light bulb going on” I
told Traci: “lets make a bunch of copies
of our piece (article in last months QT)
and go to this theater and hand them out,
38
you know, to try to get the word out
about the “Patrick Run and Auction
event” . Traci was like; “ok whatever
dear”. Long story short: big turn out,
seemed like everybody took a flier at
the theater (flier included time and
address of the event). Then we hit
QT and other Social Media online:
Facebook pages, Twitter, Instagram,
Snapchat, Periscope (live)...etc...as we
do with our bigger clients, to get the
word to 30,000 local bikers...FAST!
This event was a monster in the
making. Let me be clear; we were,
by far, not the only reason this event
took off. The combined efforts of: Ruby, Bob,
Kelly, Cowboy and so many others made this
event. The tragic untimely death of such a
well respected young man with a promising
future...The epicenter of this event: “grief
turned into caring for those that can not help
themselves” the Children’s Crisis Arizona
center.
Patrick Eberhardt passed away at 23 years of
age on Feb 7, 2015 from injuries caused by
shots fired in the dark at him and several of
his friends as they were riding down a north
Phoenix street. In remembrance of Patrick
his family held the first annual memorial ride
and charity auction Easter Sunday with ALL
proceeds benefiting Child Crisis Arizona.
People gathered at the Steelhorse Saloon to
sign up for the ride, additional commemorative
t-shirts and patches were available at the
registration table. 100’s were sold out in
minutes...When we spotted the Easter Bunny,
sporting a long beard and straddling his HD
Softail, we knew something special was about
and raffle prizes. There was such an over
whelming amount of items contributed to
this charity auction from so many people and
businesses in the valley. Some of the many
donators were: Fascinations with baskets,
Bob’s Rustic Art, Ysco’s Kreative Touch
Painting, Paul Yaffe Bagger Nation, Buddy
Stubbs HD, John Shope, DI5H (Dead in 5
Heartbeats), Rhino’s MC rings, and Rusty
Coones from SOA with items from Illusion
Cycle, SOA and ATTICA-7.
The Ride went to the Roadrunner in New
River, Az then back to the Steelhorse for the
final event. We ordered lunch and waited a
while for our friends at a table up front by
the stage. Just as the riders started coming
in, Johnny Angel arrived with his family and
we heard over the PA; “Johnny Angel’s in
the House”! People came over to say hello
to Johnny and his family and snap a pic with
him. Then “Sonny (Barger) in the house”!...
OK...time for us to move over to the other
part of the bar...lol...I paused for a minute, in
awe, at what these two were saying to each
other, so much history. What could two of the
oldest members of the original Hell’s Angels
have been talking about?...Surrounded by the
members that these two Icons’ have sponsored
through out the years...you could feel the
respect and admiration. I have interviewed
to happen...A huge check was made out for
$12,000.00 for bikers to pose with...later that
Easter Sunday, that check almost doubled to
over $21,000.00.
We brought our kids to the “Patrick Memorial
(Social) Event” Eliott and Sonya: our daughter
Sonya, who uses a wheelchair due to cerebral
palsy and 17yo son Eliott. They grew up
down the street not far from Patrick...walking
home from school Patrick would always stop
to say hi to Sonya on our front porch and even
though she can not speak she would light up
when he came over.
It was a beautiful morning with plenty of
people outside talking and getting ready for
the ride; inside people had breakfast and
checked out the tables full of auction items
MAY 2016
MAY 2016
Tim Shriver, John McCain and numerous
rock stars...this was different...It’s hard to
explain...but knowing the perseverance of
these guys, even though it was just a brief
moment in time, I felt honored to be there at
the same table as them.
Then
from
the stage the
winners of the
raffle’s
were
announced
as
people
gathered inside.
Folks got their
bid
paddles
and then the
auction began.
The
auction
complete with
auctioneer
(how do they
talk so fast) and
a couple models holding items on stage. We
don’t typically attend auctions and wasn’t
sure what to expect...even though we weren’t
bidding it was “crazy fun” to watch a bunch
of bikers compete for biker gear and erotic
Fascination baskets (erotica). Support gear
everywhere, clocks made out of motorcycle
air cleaners...all the way to vape stuff ?.
We went outside for a while to give our ears
a rest, then made our way to the back room
to play some pool and hung out with friends.
After the auction the winners paid and
collected their prizes. All in all; the Patrick
Eberhardt Ride & Charity Auction raised
over $21,000 dollars for Child Crisis Arizona.
WOW! that was well over everyone’s
expectations and made possible by the over
whelming generous contributions of bikers,
our communities and friends.
What a rewarding Easter Sunday!!
The following week we went to deliver the
money to one of the Child Crisis Arizona’s
shelters and toured the facility. We met up
at the entrance by the “Helping Hands” wall
which is made up of individual tiles of hands
along with the donators names & dates. Child
Crisis Arizona is non-profit and provides
shelter for children in need ranging from birth
to 11 years old. Children are admitted due
to various situations ranging from abuse and
neglect by the Department of Child Safety
or by families who are just trying to get
back on their feet. Their home-like facilities
located through out the valley give 24/7 care
by specially trained staff and volunteers,
balanced meals, snacks, clothing, personal
care items, medical screening and health
services are given
to the children.
Besides offering
children’s
emergency
shelters
Child
Crisis Arizona
also
has
a
foster
care
and
adoption
program, early
head
start
and
preschool
program, home
visitation
program
and
provides prevention and education resources,
which includes parenting classes and
workshops
Patrick loved and protected children and is
remembered as a kind caring person as well
as a good friend to many and will always be
missed. This will be an Annual event held
every Easter Sunday, so if you want the good
feeling that giving brings... come and join
them for a memorable Easter.

I just got back from a big bike event in
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and I gotta tell
you - these guys can put together a show that
rivals most any I have been to. The bikers in
S.E. Asia are living the brotherhood of biking as we portray it in the movies. Big bikes
are relatively new to the region which makes
this an emerging scene, novel to most of the
population and limited by the cost of a new
Harley, which is two to three times of that
in the U.S.
This show had it all In terms of size and scope
with as much as you could expect to experience
in a first class bike fest. The park like venue is
40

smack dab in the middle of high rise downtown
on the tourism authority’s prime acreage, giving
it convenient access, facilities and infrastructure.
I would like to keep this brief so that more photos can be used to show how well the Asians are
developing the western style bike community, so
let me just quickly list some of the highlights.
Two full days of activities attracting thousands
of attendees. There were big wheel baggers,
choppers, old classics of all brands, metrics and
even an overpriced theme bike built by OCC
(yes them guys). Lots of U.S. brands were present such as Mooneyes, Primo Rivera, Roland
Sands, and a 1967 Mustang for sale, with HarleyDavidson being the underlying choice of all. A
big food court and lots of vendors in a neatly arranged vendor village of sorts. This is the eighth
year now and it has outgrown the site necessitating the closure of half the main street for bike
parking.
Entertainment was non stop on stage featuring
local dignitaries, awards (Quick Throttle got
two), presentations, belly dancers, top name local bands drawing thousands to the final concert.
QT had a Favorite Bike trophy and was a celebrity judge in the bike show competition. Many of
the local MC’s had booths showing support. A
guy was there that had ridden his 200 cc Honda
from Russia! All this done with - wait for it - no
police presence!!
I would like to give a big thank you to all those
who so graciously extended their unmatched
hospitality, a great group of friendly folks. I have
a long list of names but only room for my friend
and the promoter Eddie Iskandar of The Red
Garage who put this together with a the help of
an awesome crew (and his wife Wawa).

Photos and Story by Angela Conner
The bright, Arizona sun is capable of
producing a glare from polished chrome
that can be positively blinding. When
you combine that with a gold flaked
paint job, infinite spokes winding round
and round a Ferris-wheel front tire and
bags stretched the length of a football
field…… well, welcome to Arizona
Bike Week. Don’t get me wrong. I get
it. Everyone has different tastes. Some
choose silicone while others think saline
looks more natural. But for me, as far as
motorcycles go, I prefer mine ridden hard
and put away dirty. I want to see pipes
the shade of bruises, tanks that tell dented
stories and fenders that serve purpose.
This year during Arizona Bike Week I
found my taste in bikes and bikers on the
Flat Track.
My heart always beats a little faster at the
sound of racing so you can imagine my
excitement when I heard that the organizers
of Arizona Bike Week would be adding Flat
Track Racing to this year’s event. I walked
past the vendors, past the show bikes, past the
main stage and headed directly toward the
racetrack. I knew this was where I belonged
as the scent of fuel hit the back of my throat
42
and my eyes began to water from the dust
cloud that lingered above the racers.
I immediately ran into my buddy Brad
Gregory who had flown in from Iowa to try
his hand (or steel foot as some might say) at
flat track racing. Brad is a lover of everything
motorcycle related so this was a natural
progression of sorts. Our mutual friend Bill
Cook offered up his stable of motorbikes back
in the pits. Before I knew it, the two were
geared up and surrounded by other zealous
competitors in the staging area. The adrenalin
was overwhelming as I snapped photos of the
aggressive riders zooming round and round
the dirt track attempting to maintain a semiupright position.
The diversity in level of rider experience
was matched only by the variety of bikes
the medical team. With the lack of
symmetry in his shoulders and the
pain he was experiencing, the medics
assessed that Brad would need to go
to the nearest hospital for x-rays as
his collar bone might be broken.
It was at this point that my friend
assured me he would be fine and the
rest of us should continue with our
evening. Knowing that Brad was in
good hands and the only assistance
I could possibly offer was a ponytail
holder for his unruly hair, we decided
to continue with the festivities in his
absence.
Bill finished up his last 2 races and
the bunch of us gathered in the
pit area to get a closer look at the
machines he had created. I can’t
seem to remember if Bill just sensed
that I wanted to ride or if I actually
demanded to ride but when the offer
came, I literally dropped everything
and hopped on. Tearing it up in the
that were entered into the competition.
Novice motorcycle enthusiasts with paper
plate number panels battled it out against
professional riders mounted on their high
performance machines. I was particularly
impressed with a grey bearded mini biker
who had a joyous smile that communicated
exactly what I was feeling at that moment.
Undoubtedly, part of racing’s excitement
is the strong possibility of a crash. Brad’s
beginner’s luck eventually ran out when he
went down in turn 3 on Bill’s Buell Blast.
Although he was able to exit the track on his
own accord, I could tell from the absence of
his usual pearly white smile that things were
not copacetic. I immediately left my photo
perch and arrived back in the pits to find
Brad laying on the ground surrounded by
MAY 2016
MAY 2016
pits on that minibike made me feel
connected to the racers in a way that
my camera had not. I believe there
is significant satisfaction that comes
with the act of being in motion on
a machine that can be pushed to
its limits without fear of cosmetic
damage. Simply put, build ‘em
to ride ‘em. If you ride ‘em with
passion and adventure in your heart
they will get dirty. I aspire to one day
have a garage filled with dirty bikes.
While there were a great many
activities to partake in during
Arizona Bike Week I was especially
glad that the organizers decided to
include Flat Track Racing this year.
Side note: Brad Uber-ed back from
Mayo Clinic with no broken bones
just as Buckcherry was leaving the
stage. He was fortunate enough to
aquire a hair tie from a cute little
nursing student.

Daytona Bike Week’s 75th Anniversary was
incredible this year. I arrived on Weds.
Night, and BFC Poet got to hang out in
Ocala with BFC Poet, who loaned me his
beautiful Dyna Wide Glide. Thank God
for my brothers who help me out with HD’s
when I travel – I really appreciate you guys,
and you know who you are. We had BFC
members from quite a few different states as
the Daytona Rally - is a Regional Gathering
for our crew.
One of the coolest things about Daytona
Bike Week is that it covers about 100 square
miles of sights and sounds. And we of
course, try to hit them all – in one week.
On Thursday morning we peeled out to head
to meet up our other bro’s – and then jumped
on the scoots and rolled out for: Willie’s
Tropical Tattoo’s Legendary Bike Show.
Willie also hosts “The Horse Backstreet
Chopper’s” show and together they are
pretty unbeatable.
The Double-Billed Show draws everything
from: Flatheads, Knuckles, Pans, Shovels,
46
Evos, Twin Cams, - along with vintage
Indians, Excelsiors, Triumphs, and even
some “off the chains” crazy Japaneese
contraptions.
The sweet smell of exhaust, gasoline, and
the sound of some seriously loud thunder
blasting on Hgwy. 1. There were also some
Indian Larry builds, and other tasty custom
choppers. Some of my favorites were the
rigid & wishbone choppers with 30 over
springers and girder front-ends… (I know
some of the youngsters are thinking – what’s
a wishbone or a girder)…?
Anyway we had a blast, and I of course took
at least a hundred pics catching some great
shots of some awesome bikes.
The next day we hit Destination Daytona
Harley Davidson – one of the world’s largest
HD shops. The complex covers quite a
few square miles with JP Cycles, plus 200+
vendors of all types. There are also on-site
restaurants serving every type of food that
you can imagine. They also had some great
bands cranking out some awesome rock n’
roll cranking from the two on-side stages.
Destination Daytona HD is a must-see for
all of the the rally attendees.
MAY 2016
The next morning we hit Beach
Street and it was totally packed on
both sides of the street. While there
we visited the Indian store, and
headed into the vendor areas. The
back lot featured the Ed Roth “Big
Daddy Rathole Chopper Show”.
The bikes that were featured there
were incredible… everything from
‘The Snake Bike”, Frankenstine
-Vampire looking choppers, to
the ‘Super-heroes Hall of Fame”
Bike Display – this show reached
everyone – in all ages and stages of
life.
After more rides and more food we
were ready for some coffee to recharge the batteries. That evening
we had some of the best Pizza that
I’ve ever had.
One of my favorite stops was –
the huge Daytona Outdoor Bike
Swapmeet – that had two stages that
were rockin’, and a couple hundred
vendors with a lot of “old school
bike parts”. We felt like “little kids”
MAY 2016
in a Mall-Sized Candy Store – while
we were finding buried treasure in
bike parts across the acres of parts.
There were a lot of really hard-tofind items – that were in piles that
the bro’s were scooping up for
their back-home garage builds and
vintage bikes.
Then we rolled to the International
Speedway – where they host the
Daytona 500 and so many other
huge events.
Again there were
rows of vendors, stages, ad so many
awesome things to look at. The
latest technology items, and all of
the bike brands were there. It was
absolutely amazing, and took ½ a
day just to scratch the surface.
Another incredible Bike Week was
wrapping up – but we of course we
just had to take one more ride to
see if we missed anything, and of
course – you just can’t cram it all
into a few days. Until next year

Shooter, Pastor Z.
