PRESIDENT’S COLUMN
Hello everyone.
Wow, how fast a year goes by. By the time you get

close, good luck you muzzle loaders. Hope all were
safe and got your dream buck or doe as I did. Send in
your great pictures to Dave Leonard at
[email protected]
Don’t forget to bring you Michigan deer antlers in
early to get scored before Buck Night on February’s
General Meeting Night. Contact John Lash for info
248-363-7474.
First I would to say Thank
You to all of our outgoing
officers and Board members.
It was great to work with all
of. you. Also, I would like to
welcome all of our new
officers and directors.
In 2016, please let’s try to
come up with some new
ideas for the club like John
LaFave’s Gun Bash on June 4th 2016, and the new live
outdoor event similar to the Rocking Under the Stars
event that Sal Ferra.is planning.
To all the chairman, please submit your 2016
budget`s request to the treasure as well as your
reserved dates, as they are filling up fast.
Make plans to attend the Wild Game Dinner in
February of 2016. Get your tickets early, as tickets for
this go fast. If you need Gun a Week tickets for 2016,
please go to the bar and put your name on the waiting
list.
By the time you get your Multi Laker, our Workers
Appreciation Dinner will be over. Congratulations to
our New Member of the Year, Member of the Year
and to our Horstman award winner. There are so
many members to choose from and it is hard to
narrow it down to just three.
Come Out and Enjoy Our Club,
~ Glenn

Cal Kittinger said the raffle tickets for the NRA gun raffle were

CAROL’S
CORNER
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and got everything they
deserved. Ho, Ho, Ho!
The league is over and we are on siesta until January 5th, whew,
sweet!
Well I don’t know about you guys, but I didn’t see any Bambis
on cars or trucks, which I’m sure made mom happy. Heck, I
even had a deer hiding in my backyard enjoying the bird seed.
See ya next year,
~ Carol
The Fish of Multi-lakes – the Bluegill
The Bluegill is our most common game fish and can be found just about
anywhere there is freshwater.
Colors range from dark blue or almost purple to yellow, with six to eight
vertical bars on the sides and a red to orange belly. There is abroad
round black flap on the back of the gill cover. The colors are very vivid
in the males when they are spawning.
Bluegill Spawn when water is over 65 degrees with a full moon. They
will spawn every full moon from March to September.
The male bluegills first arrive at the mating site and the make a dish-shaped spawning bed in shallow water. Females
are generally drawn to larger male fish. After the female drops the eggs, the male chases her out of the nest and guards
the eggs. A female bluegill can lay as many as 60,000 eggs.
The male bluegill will guard the nest until the eggs hatch and the fry are able to swim
– about 5 days. Bluegills are generally sexually mature at one year of age with a
lifespan of 5-8 years.
Bluegills eat anything they can get in their mouth, including insects, worms, small
minnows and crayfish. They are attracted to light and will come to lights on docks at
night to feed on insects attracted by the light.
Bluegill will overcrowd a pond or small body of water unless thinned out by predators
or fishermen. To have big bluegill you must keep the population low enough so they
don't become overcrowded.
The State of Michigan Master Angler record Bluegill weighted 2 ¾ pounds, was 13 ¾
inches long, and was caught in 1983 on a Mepps spinner in Vaughn Lake in Alcona
county. The world record is 4 ¾ pounds and was caught in 1950. Most Bluegills will
run from six to eight inches long as adults and weigh 1/4 to 1/2 pound.

~ Letter ~ To all Multi Lakers I would like to say it has been a pleasure serving all of you for the past
four years as a board member and officer. I hope that I represented you and your thoughts to the board of
directors.
Our club has endured some trying times over the last 74 years and the club members have always come
together in adversity to see the club through these times.
The board has been working hard the last few months to cut expenses and try to get control of our costs.
But, we are in another crisis and I’m asking all of you to come together as MULTI- LAKERS. We need to
unify our club and not work as individual entities but as a whole. If you hear of another committee that
needs help, call the chairman and volunteer some time. There are several committees needing help and the
club could use the income generated by them. One in particular is Bingo. They could always use help on a
Tuesday evening, even if you can only help for a couple of hours it would be great.
My other concern is for our clubs spending. You will see that we have to tighten our belts on a few things
until we can get back into financial stability. Please support your board in the decisions they are making to
control spending and if you have ideas please present them to an officer or board member.
We as Multi Lakers also need to promote our club and increase our membership. You can each sponsor 6
members per year. If every member to sponsored one person we would double our membership in a short
period of time. Strong and numerous memberships are vital for our club. I have volunteered to help on a
marketing committee, to put together a plan in the next 30 days to bring in new members. One problem I
have seen is retaining these new members, and I would also like to ask all our members to not complain
about a committee or action the board takes openly at the club. Let’s all try to talk about club activities
positively. If you have a concern about a committee, talk to the chairman personally. Better yet, volunteer
for their committee, participate in an event and see if working changes your view point.
Here is a poster that I saw recently at a VFW Hall, it read:
Do you Belong?
Are you an active member? The kind that would be missed or are you just contented that your name
is on the list? Do you attend the meetings and mingle with the flock? Or do you meet in private and
criticize and knock? Do you take an active part to help the work along or are you satisfied to be the
kind who just belongs? Do you work on committees –to this there is no trick- or just leave the work to
just a few and talk about the clique? So come to meetings often and help with hand and heart. Don’t
be just a member but take an active part. Think this over members you know what’s right from wrong,
are you an ACTIVE MEMBER, OR do you just belong?
Let’s all pull together to keep our great club going for another 100 years.
Rich “Doc” Johnson #94-186 …22 years and counting
~ Editorial ~
One of the points that Doc makes above is that we all
need to work together, despite what our personal
differences may be, for the good of the Club as whole.
I am reminded of this old cartoon:

Special Board Meeting Minutes – December 14th, 2015
Chair Marshall Maybrier called the meeting to order at 7:00
P.M. and the pledges were read.
Officers present: Sam Mullins, Pete Cesaro Sr., Rich
Carlson, John LaFave, and Jim Kirn. Directors present: Bill
Brennecke, Glenn Kruckenberg, Marshall Maybrier, Jeff
Parker, Larry Hutton, John Miller, Rich Johnson, and Past
President Charley Stevens. Club Manager: Barry Anderson.
Operations Manager: Dave Fisher. Interested Members:
Rich LaFave, Jim Howie, Mike McGinley, Mike Smilth, Dave
Behme, and Rodney Taskey.
Motion to waive the reading of December 9, 2015 Board
meeting Minutes. (Sam Mullins) (John LaFave) Motion
approved: Without exception.
Purpose of special meeting was to combine and define
thoughts and solutions to the financial issues facing the Club.
Meeting called by consensus of more than five board members
at the request of Jeff Parker.
Dave Fisher urged action on low membership numbers and
club expenses. The recent fire has severely limited our
already stressed cash flow issues. Dave suggested that the
new treasurer should form and head a finance committee. Jim
Howie said he would have to ascertain what that might look
like before he would agree. Jim listed 12 areas of income and
expense and suggested we might need a per member
assessment significantly higher than the $50.00 (Fifty) allowed
for in the by-laws. Discussion followed.
Jim Kirn continued the discussion the Board started last week
about the cost of the Multi-Laker. As of the end of November
the Club had spent $17,900 to produce and mail 880 copies
monthly; total copies printed monthly was 950. Advertising
income only offset this expense by $1,200. Jim suggested we
include the financial statement in the on-line version so
more members would agree to receive their copy on-line.
Motion to eliminate mailing of printed Multi-Laker but
make available printed copies to members who
wanted them, but at cost. The Multi-Laker would be
mailed free of charge to advertisers. (Jeff Parker)
(Larry Hutton) Jeff requested a roll call vote. Vote: Rich
Johnson Yes, Charley Stevens yes, Jeff Parker yes,
Larry Hutton yes, Jim Kirn yes, Bill Brennecke yes, John
Miller yes, Glenn Kruckenberg yes, Pete Cesaro yes,
John LaFave no, Rich Carlson no, and Sam Mullins no.
Motion approved: 9 in favor, 3 opposed.
Motion to delay implementation on previous motion
for 6 months. (Sam Mullins) (John LaFave). Discussion
followed. Motion amended: Motion to delay
implementation of previous motion for three months.
(Sam Mullins) (John LaFave) Motion approved. Larry
Hutton opposed.
Jim Kirn stated he finds the membership entry process
cumbersome, complicated and too difficult. The process
hinders recruitment and retention of new members.
Motion to form a Marketing Committee, consisting of
Rich Johnson, Jeff Parker, Kariss Conrad, and John
LaFave, who are to report progress to the board
within 30 days. (Rich Johnson) (Charley Stevens)
