Roparun, an adventure 25 years in the making
The Roparun is a relay running event of approximately 530km, starting in Paris, France and approximately 560km, starting in Hamburg,
Germany, and finishes in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The event takes place during the Pentecost weekend. The teams start on Saturday in
either Paris or Hamburg, and will relay-run non-stop to finish on Pinkster Monday in Rotterdam.
The purpose of this endeavor is to raise money to support cancer patients in their struggle. The motto of the Roparun reflects this
perfectly:
Add life to the days,
where often days can no longer be added to the life
A Roparun team consists of a maximum of 8 runners, who each run
an average of about 65 kilometers in a race that takes approximately
46 hours. A team must also have a minimum of 2 cyclists to guide
the runners, as well as a number of people forming a support team.
This includes drivers, medics, caterers and road captains. The teams
themselves are responsible to fill these roles, and, on average, a
team consists of 25 people.
What is the Wing Walkers Foundation?
The Wing Walkers Foundation is a team of people who raise money for charity by competing in the Roparun relay race.
In 2002 the team was started by a group of colleagues who all worked for Martinair Maintenance. As all team members worked for the
airline, the team name Wing Walkers was chosen. Through the years this slowly changed and also people from other airlines and outside
the aviation joined to complement the team with the necessary skills and knowledge.
Nowadays the team has build a strong and proud foundation to support our runners and cyclists consisting of:
• A top catering organization who uses primarily fresh ingredients and produces the necessary meals at all times of the day.
• A massage team of at least 4 specialized masseurs, who help to optimize performance and prevent injuries.
• Several drivers who guide, navigate, secure and support the runners and cyclists in a safe way
• And last but not least we have a touring car accompanying us. Thanks to them most of us can get as much well earned sleep as possible
(and even that is not a lot)
In 2016 the Wing Walkers Foundation team will start from Hamburg, just like the last 2 editions.
The team has a good track record on this route:
In 2014 we finished 10th from 98 teams in approx. 46 hours.
In 2015 we finished 7th from 87 teams in approx. 44 hours.
But in spite of the good results we have a motto: Competing is more important than winning
2016 will be the 10th Roparun for the Wing Walkers!!
Our Team
Roparun, the Charity
The Wing Walkers Foundation raises money for charity. All earnings will be donated to the Roparun Palliative Care Foundation. The
Roparun Palliative Care Foundation raises money to support the care of terminal cancer patients. This is done by donating money to
healthcare institutes and foundations that deliver the necessary care to these patients.
Some of the donations that will be made in 2016 are:
- Jessa Hospital (Hasselt, B) will receive €30.000,- to build a meeting and private room for
terminal cancer patients
- Sravana Foundation (Doetinchem, NL) will receive €30.000,- to facilitate a hospice
- Ijsselland Hospital (Cappelle aan de Ijssel, NL) will receive €2.600,- for a kids project to
benefit the children cancer ward
- Erasmus MC Cancer Institute (Rotterdam, NL) will receive €2.500,- to facilitate a
palliative polyclinic

Sponsor possibilities

Bronze package (up to €250,-):
- Your logo will be placed on our sponsor page for 12 months
- Your logo will be printed on the back of our team shirts
Silver package (between €250,- and €500,-):
- Your logo will be placed on our sponsor page for 12 months
- Your logo will be printed on the front of our team shirt
Gold package (between €500,- and €1000,-):
- Your logo will be placed on our homepage for 12 months
- Your logo will be printed on the front of our team shirt
- You can have your company logo placed on the tour-bus or
one of the follow busses, which will be driven to Hamburg and
back. For this a flag or poster with the logo must be supplied
Platinum package (more than €1000,-):
- Same as the gold package, but also including a framed team photo. If wished the team photo can be made with your company banner
Other sponsor possibilities:
- To participate in the Roparun is an expensive endeavor. We need things like a touring bus, follow-busses, catering and all kind of other
things. It is possible to sponsor us with any of these items as well. Please contact us about what you can offer and we can do in return.
Team T-shirt:
- We have a very enthusiastic group of runners in our team, who will compete in other running events as well through the year. Often they
will wear our team shirt during these events to give more publicity for our team and our sponsors!
Donations
The Wing Walkers Foundation also has a so called ANBI-status (Public Benefit Organization). This means you could also consider to make a
donation in stead of sponsoring. The donated amount is then completely tax deductible (depending on local regulations).
Raffle tickets
Every year the Roparun organizes a big raffle for which the
raffle tickets are being sold by the participating teams.
Prizes consist of items like an e-reader, gift card’s and
vacation vouchers ranging from €1000,- to €5000,-. The
grand prizes are 2 Mercedes Benz A-class cars.
Raffle tickets cost €2,50 a piece or €50,- per book of 20.
You could also help us by buying 1 or more books. You
could then give these away (or sell) to personnel and/or
relations to make them interested in the Roparun as well.
VAT
All sponsor packages are excluding the VAT. Donations are exempt from VAT.
