Bryan R. Lipson, Customer Service Manager of the
Passport Agency in Dallas, TX, since August 2009. Mr.
Lipson began his career in 2002 with the U.S.
Department of State as a Passport Specialist for the
Washington Passport Agency. In 2005, he was selected
as a Passport Operations Officer with the Office of
Program Management and Operational Support

President’s Letter – September 2016
Fellow Travelers:
As world travel becomes more and more risky, I am glad that
we have friends in every country that provide us a safe haven
and escorted experiences. Dave Frick has worked hard to
provide a program to give us insight into world travel from
the State Department’s inside view for our September 9 th
gathering. This is not to be missed by anyone who is a serious
traveler. Bring a friend!
Ed Vaughn and I joined FF Albuquerque for a fantastic once-in
-a-lifetime trip to Peru , combined with an up-close and very
challenging climb into the ancient Inca stronghold of Macchu
Pichu. We had fabulous hosts and experienced late fall,
spring and summer weather in the short space of three
weeks.
Jeri Edmunds designed an interesting look back into Texas
history with a trip to Jefferson. We brought back cases of
Texas Jellies and Syrups!
FFI continues to offer exciting opportunities for us to
participate in. Here are just some:

QUARTERLY POTLUCK DINNER MEETING
Our regular Quarterly meeting will be held on Sunday afternoon, October 9 at 6:00. It
will be a Potluck event. Place to be determined and announced on line. The program
will include presentations by Linda Doyle and Ed Vaughn on their trip to Peru and Jeri
Edmunds on the Jefferson Texas tour.

There will be sign up sheets at the dinner for one or two Domestic exchanges and
choices for International Exchanges in 2017 and 2018
Our regular Board meeting will be at 4 PM the same day. Board members should plan

2017 WORLD CONFERENCE-MANCHESTER UK
Friendship Force International announced
at the 2015 World Conference in
Vancouver, British Columbia that the 2017
World Conference will be taking place in
Manchester, UK. that year, August 25 to 27.
Manchester is the home of 28 museums.
Manchester Town Hall in Albert Square,
seat of local government, is an example of
Victorian era Gothic revival architecture.

The FFI World Conference will be held in Marrakesh, Morocco this year and take
place at the Kenzi Farah hotel in the fashionable L’Hivernage district, within walking
distance of Marrakech’s UNESCO-listed medina. Relax by the pool, sample traditional
Moroccan cuisine in the hotel’s restaurants, enjoy the hammam spa, and gather with
friends at the piano bar for live music every night. The discounted price of 1300 Moroccan Dirham per double room per night includes a breakfast buffet. Each guest
room is air-conditioned with satellite TV, Wifi access, a minibar and private bathroom.

LONG ISLAND EXCHANGE - NOVEMBER 2ND - 7TH
Our domestic exchange in 2016 is with the Long Island, New York club. They hosted
the Fort Worth club some years ago. Many of the ambassador members recall and
all are looking forward to showing New Yorkers a Fort Worthy good time.

FFI is committed to providing club exchange opportunities that will further their mission of promoting global understanding. However, FFI was unable to assign an outbound exchange to any of Fort Worth’s requested destinations. As a result, they have
created a number of “All Country” exchanges that our club can participate in. Here is

Jefferson, Texas Tour a Big Success!!
Seven members of FFFW spent a weekend in July exploring Jefferson, Texas. We
enjoyed tours of the antebellum homes, Twin Oaks Plantation and House of Four
Seasons.
We threw dieting to the wind as we ordered cornbread sandwiches, catfish dinners,
and Lamache's Italian fare--not to mention pies ala mode.
At the Jefferson Historical Museum we viewed multiple model trains running in a depiction of the Texas and Pacific Railway in West Texas in the 1950s.
On Sunday Captain Nance guided us on his "Graceful Ghost" pontoon boat through
Big Cypress Bayou. It was delightful to see Snowy Egrets and Little Blue Herons flying amongst the pale green leaves of the cypress trees.
As the song goes, "Son of a gun, we had big fun on the bayou," and in historic
Jefferson, Texas.

INTERNATIONAL INBOUND EXCHANGE APRIL 2017, NEW ZEALAND
Yes, New Zealand again! This time we will host the Thames and Comandel clubs. We
visited them in 2009. Who knew mussel fritters were so tasty? Now we can feed them
real bar-b-que and mouth watering Tex-Mex. Again, everyone’s efforts will be needed.

Recently, the Kiwis voted to keep their flag even if it is quite similar to Australia’s flag.

Sarasota, Florida Domestic Exchange Opportunity
Dear Friendship Force Friends,
Spend a week with the Friendship Force of Sarasota, on Florida's beautiful west coast! Come learn
why Sarasota is considered the "arts capital of Florida" - a community which loves the arts of all
kinds.
Highlights of this global themed exchange include visual and performing arts as well as visits to nationally and internationally respected schools and conservatories dedicated to training the artists of
the future. The exchange opens with a performance by the Sarasota Ballet. The evening’s program
will include a reprise of Will Tuckett's exquisite Changing Light as well as the World Premiere of a
new work by resident dancer/choreographer Ricardo Graziano. The company has performed to rave
reviews at the Kennedy Center and Jacob’s Pillow.
The exchange will include a backstage tour, lunch, and
attendance at a play of the repertory of the Asolo Rep
state theater. We will also attend a performance at
Florida Studio Theater’s complex in the new Gompertz
Theater. The immensely popular FST is known for selecting quality new plays presenting serious issues of
our time with a touch of humor.
Spend a full day at The Ringling, the state museum of
Florida, a complex which includes the art museum with
permanent collections and temporary exhibits, the John
& Mabel Ringling mansion Ca’d Zan, and the Circus
Museum.
Our week concludes with a Masterworks concert by the
Sarasota Orchestra at the unique Van Wezel performing arts hall, designed by Taliesin Associated
Architects of Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. The lavender and purple color scheme was chosen by
Wright’s widow and the hall is nicknamed the “purple cow.” The concert features world renowned
pianist Simon Trpceski performing Tchaikovsky’s tour de force Piano Concerto No 1 and the American Premiere of a new symphony composed for Music Director Anu Tali by Estonian composer
Erkki-Sven Tüür.
Other activities may include:
- Sinatra Tribute presented by The Artist Series in the new Venice Performing Arts Center
- The Jazz Club
- At least one community art centers
- Various galleries and exhibits
- Marietta Museum of Art & Whimsy for a glimpse at the lighter side of artistic expression.
- Afternoon sightseeing cruise on Sarasota Bay
- The final evening of the exchange is the First Friday Walk during which numerous fine art galleries
in downtown Sarasota are open to visitors in the evening and musical groups perform in the streets.
There are currently 20 spaces available and the cost of the exchange is approximately $750 USD

Friendship Force International Exchange
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
Friendship Force International is sponsoring a trip to San Miguel de Allende,
Mexico September 11-18. This will be an opportunity to experience the Mexican
Independence Celebration, one of the most spectacular events of the year. There
is no home hosting on this exchange; however there will be people-to-people opportunities with cultural visits to the homes of locals. Joyce Rulon with the
Friendship Force Oklahoma Club is the Exchange Director and is organizing the
group. At last count seven openings were left. Arrangements can be made if one
would like to stay longer.

San Miguel de Allende, a colonial-era city in Mexico’s central highlands, is known
for its baroque Spanish architecture, thriving arts scene and cultural festivals. In

Jardín. The Templo de San Francisco nearby is distinguished by its 18th-century,
