S: I have heard that you are going to retire this year.
How do you feel? And you have any plans?
P: Time flies! I think it’s an honor to return to my Alma
mater to retire as a principal. I’d like to polish off my
work without any trouble. I’ve never taken a rest freely
from all anxiety. I’ll enjoy my life after my retirement.
And I have a plan to serve the community with my
whole heart.
S: When did you first teach in a school and how did
you feel?
P: I didn’t know what to do in my first class. I first became a teacher without a specific plan and textbook.
I thought myself, ‘what if students don’t pay attention
in my class?’, Unexpectedly, however, students indeed
concentrated in my class. Thanks to the students who
paid attention in my first class I could become what I
am now. I make it a rule to meet with the pupils at the
end of the year. ^^
S: These days, Do you have any hobbies or interests?
P: I like to make something practical. I’m good at making clothes or furniture and cooking for myself. I try
to share my food with my neighbors and teachers at
school. That’s my pleasure.
S: Do you have a special student who is memorable?
P: Each year, I meet some memorable students. However, if I have to choose one person. Umm... Yes! Just
after giving birth to my first child, I went back to the
school. There was a student who had been absent
from school in my class. I visited him carrying my baby
on my back. I tried to persuade him to come back to
the school at Seonghwan Market place eating Sundae
Gukbab together. Eventually he could graduate from
high school. Now He might be over 50 years old...
S: Do you have something to tell Pyeongtaek girls’
high school students?
P: Thank you for loving me, as a senior and principal
of yours. Keeping the memories is joyful and valuable
thing at school. In the future, it can be a behind story.
I hope you build up your friendship in positive way. I
wish for you to go for your dreams. Enjoy your school
days!!
S: Thank you so much to accept this interview. It was
great talking with you today.
P: You’re welcome. I’ve had
a great time, too!

Into The Wind of
School Meal
Innovation
School cafeteria
Innovation
Many changes have happened at Pyeongtaek girls’
high school cafeteria in 2013.
Glass window and gray window bar indicating the distrust of student
have disappeared and music of various genres and beautiful wallpaper
have begun to take its place. In addition, by diversifying the types of
goods, students can purchase almost everything including household
goods and school supplies. Also, cafeteria keeper opened a Facebook
page called ‘PGHS cafeteria’. Through the Facebook event, the cafeteria
gained high popularity from not only current students but also graduates.
The old cafeteria in which we could usually meet the hunger has been
turned into a place where we can get enough rest comfortably and buy
some necessary stationery conveniently.
Jeong, Yedam
Our school has provided meal. But after having a new
nutritionist, the wind of change at the school cafeteria
also has been blowing. One of the significant innovations
Jeong, Dahyeon was school meal menus, Pyeongtaek girls’ high school
students’ energy source. Most of all, students have given the opportunity
to taking a vote to decide which food they want for upcoming school meal
menu once a month. Most students are satisfied with the fact of being
able to choose what they would like to eat. And participation rate of voting was also much higher than anyone expected. In this way many students are able to taste various menus compared to the previous school
meal. Strawberry Shaved Ice was girls’ favorite among new menus. Students thought Strawberry Shaved Ice would not be served as a school
meal menu, however it was served on the menu! That made students
surprised. Many students say that the taste of new school meal is getting
better.
Wanna Know The Origin Of Your
Waffle
French Fries
Waffle_ Waffle was made by a cook’s mistake in
the mid-1770s. The cook was making steaks and
pancakes as usual. He was about to pat the meat to
make it tender. But he happened to pat the pancake
dough while talking with his wife. Seeing the hole in
the dough, he thought it would be able to prevent the
jam and the syrup from flowing. Therefore, he started
to make the hole in center of the pancake. In this way
Waffles eaten throughout the world have been made.
French Fries_ Do you know how was a ‘French
Fried potatoes’ invented? In 1852, a regular customer ordered fried potatoes at the restaurant in New
York. As the fried potatoes being served, however,
he complained because of its being so thick. After
that, a chef named Georgy Crumb cut new potatoes
Some students say as follows :
“I’m so happy that all things are readily available from our new cafeteria.”
“The new cafeteria is the place not only for buying stationery and snacks
but also for stressed high-school girls’ rest. We can hear the latest music
sung by TVXQ, EXO. etc.”
“Things we need are cheaper than elsewhere. In addition, Ajumma and
Ajeossi(Mr. & Mrs.) are very kind enough to give students eating ramen
Gimchi.”
Favorite Foods?
Ice Cream
in thin slices as much as he could not pick up with
a fork and put them in boiling fat, and a little salt; fry
both sides of a light golden brown color; drain. After
then, he sent them again to the customer. Beyond
his expectation, the customer enjoyed them with
satisfaction.
Ice Cream_ The claims of Nero (1st century A.D.)
and the ancient Chinese (via Marco Polo) enjoying an
“ice-cream-like dessert” are used to bolster ice cream’s
long-standing popularity. Well, bunk. These desserts,
while frozen, are not ice cream as we know, but more
like sorbet or probably a snow-cone! Nero would have
servants run to the mountains for fresh snow, and then
race back (before it melted) to his palace where he
would enjoy the frozen treats topped with fresh fruits.
Sandwich
Sandwich_ Sandwich was named after John Mon-
tagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, an 18th-century English aristocrat, although he was neither the inventor
nor sustainer of the food. It is said that he ordered
his valet to bring him meat tucked between two
pieces of bread, and because Montagu also happened to be the Fourth Earl of Sandwich, others
began to order “the same as Sandwich!” It is said
that Lord Sandwich was fond of this form of food
because it allowed him to continue playing cards,
particularly cribbage, while eating without getting
his cards greasy from
eating meat with his
bare hands.

Looking Back On
2013, Myeongdeok Festival
Our school has held our own school festival( Myeongdeok Festival) biennially.
It fell on May 18 this year. This Myeongdeok Festival’s purpose is to give comfort to teachers and students
who are exhausted and are under stress in school lives. To Pyeongtaek girls’ high school students, this festival day
has been considered as the best day of the year. Our Myeongdeok Festival was comprised of various activities and
performances as given below.
Tteokbokki-making contest
Our school hosted the Tteokbokki-making contest
during the lunch
hour at the festival. While different
teams participated in that competition, among
them Park Hyo-in, Yi Eun-ji, Kim Ji-hyeon
took first place with the Vietnamese Ssam
Tteokbokki. The judges were our school’s
principal and foreigners who had been invited
to Myeongdeok festival. They commented the
Vietnamese Ssam Tteokbokki was creative,
good-looking and delicious. For these reasons, the Vietnamese Ssam Tteokbokki was
ranked No.1.
Talent Show
Talent show was the one of the highlights of
our school festival.
Every student has
prepared for their
own performances or looked forward to seeing the
show. The Talent Show included many activities and performances : Some clubs played
musical instruments and others showed off
flashy dance moves to the music. Besides,
There were not only belly dance performance
by a talented student but duet-dance by a
handsome teacher, Kim seong-su and a student. In this talent show everyone completely
fell into a trance by various performances.

the winning team was the third type, class
6. They sang ‘Binggle binggle sung by Nami’
which was one of the most popular songs in
1980s and danced together in 1980s’ retro
style clothes. The performance of class 6
aroused teacher’s sympathy and impressed
students as an unique chorus.
Sophomore’s group dancing
Freshmen’s chorus tournament
The 10th graders sang in chorus together
showing their own distinctive abilities. There
were three main
types of 10th graders’ chorus ; The
first type was the
classes singing a
song with dancing to the music. The second type was the
classes having an enthusiastic conductor
who was whole show at the stage, and it was
not surprising that the conductor was receiving fervent responses. The third type was
the classes wearing special clothes for the
chorus contest. In this chorus tournament,
In the school festival, the 11th graders

classmates. The
1st, 2nd and 3rd
winners had been
supposed to receive the prize
with incentive so some students practiced
group dancing during every break time. Listening to the most popular song such as ‘3’,
‘call me maybe’, ‘Doni’ Dirt’, ‘Gentleman’ and
‘Micky’ etc. which were used for background
music, all the members of our school including visitors enjoyed themselves. Students’ efforts could be seen in their group dancing for
harmony with classmates.

Training Camp of freshmen
The freshmen went to Mt. Mubong Youth
Camp for their Training Camp from March
18 to March 20 this year. They experienced a widely various activities such as

group, visiting the designated location by
using QR Code. They also rode “Go-cart”
,which is similar to ‘cartrider’ in online game.
They watched Nanta performance and Talent
