Saint Joseph Parish This coming first Friday, Sept. 5, at 6pm the Knights of Columbus and the Elk Grove Squires will be honoring our Holy Mother Mary with their monthly Living Rosary at our Parish rosary garden in the front of the church. FCCW - Women’s Study Group Coming This Fall To St. Joseph’s Do you sometimes wonder why we do certain things at Mass? Or what the history of our church is? Would you like to meet with some of your fellow parishioners to learn and share more about our faith? Several years ago when we did our church survey, the number one request for our parish was to have an Adult Faith Formation group. Well, beginning this Fall we will be starting the first of our Adult Faith Formation studies. We will be meeting on Wednesdays at 7pm. We will begin with Jeff Cavins, “The Bible Timeline, The Story of Salvation.” We will be having a booth at this year’s Parish Festival for inquiries and sign-ups. We hope to see you there. Christ the King Men’s Retreat A Time To Catch Our Breath: A time to reflect. A time to evaluate. A time to learn. A Time to pray. A time to lift our spirits to the Lord. Saint Joseph Parish Youth Ministry News High School Youth Ministry will meet again Sunday, August 31, 6-8pm. EDGE Middle School Ministry (Parent Information Nights, see below). On September 8, we will begin individual interviews for Year 1, sign up at Meeting Sept. 1, 2014. 1:8 Confirmation Program 1:8 begins in the month of September at Saint Joseph’s. Here are important dates to remember: Parent Information Night Generation 2 Generation: Parent Information Night is a mandatory meeting for all Year One Confirmandi. During this meeting we will be discussing the purpose of the 1:8 program and its origins, important dates for first year Confirmation students, and an overview of the year one program for the year. September 1, 6-8pm in the Social Hall. Support System Session: Student and Sponsor The support system session is for the Confirmandi, their sponsors (if they have one), and their parents. We will discuss and go over the components of year 2 as we prepare for the sacrament of confirmation, as well as, the requirements for having a Confirmation sponsor. Tuesday, September 2, from 6-8pm in the Social Hall. Fundraisers Please support our youth ministry at Leatherby’s Family Ice Cream, on Thursday, September 18, fr om 5-11pm. 20% of your purchase will go back to the St. Joseph Youth Ministry. Grab a flyer in the vestibule or at the parish office and show it to the cashier the night of the fundraiser. Volunteer Opportunities Sign-ups to volunteer to be servers at the festival dinner will be available at the next youth group meeting for high school and middle school. The festival dinner will be on Saturday, September 6 and volunteer s ar e needed fr om 5:30-10pm. Volunteer hour s can be used as community ser vice hour s. The Youth Ministry is in charge of all the games for the Festival. Please sign up for a time slot in the vestibule of the church. The Festival is on Sunday, September 7, fr om 10am-4pm. Youth Group Activities Tickets for OnFire are still on sale for $30 at the parish office. The last day to sign up for OnFire will be Sunday, August 31. For ms ar e available in the office or at the high school youth gr oup nights. OnFire NorCal 2014 is a rally for all the youth ministries around Northern California. We will have Mass, adoration, confession, speakers such as Emily Wilson and Paul J Kim, a concert, and unlimited rides exclusively for OnFire ticket holders! OnFire will be held at Discovery Kingdom. OnFire is open to all high school aged youth and young adults. Youth Ministry Youth Choir Calling all musicians and singers in middle school and high school age! We are having a Youth Choir sponsored by the St. Joseph’s Youth Ministry. Our first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, September 10 from 6-8pm in the Youth Room. We need singers, drummers, guitar players, and whatever musical talents that you can bring. Please join us! Our first mass with the Youth Choir will be on Sunday, September 28 at the 11am Mass. Ministry Days 2014 Event is Sept. 26 & 27 The Diocese of Sacramento has announced Ministry Days 2014’s theme is, “Are Your Ears Ringing?” The ministry days will be held at St. Francis High School, located at 5900 Elvas Ave. in Sacramento. Many inspirational keynote presentations, as well as practical and helpful workshops will be offered in both English and Spanish. Keynote speakers for the event are Robert Feduccia (English) and Sister Leticia Salazar, ODN (Spanish). Registration books are now available to download at: www.ministrydays.com. You can also view the schedule, keynotes, workshops and presenters online. Register by Sept. 12 to save $15 on the full-conference registration and $10 on the one-day registration fee. Italian Festival The Mangia Mangia Italian Festival will be again celebrated on Saturday, October 4, up at Lake Clementia. Festivities begin at 2:00pm with dinner at 6:00pm.
