HIAB
SEA CRANE
HIAB SEA CRANES, SECOND TO NONE
Rich heritage
The HIAB line of Sea Cranes was developed in the period
following World War II. The company had already invented
the hydraulic crane and followed that innovation with the
hydraulic knuckle cranes now used in marine applications
around the world. HIAB cranes have an unmatched
reputation since first being commissioned to retrieve
NASA’s space capsules from the ocean in the early 1960s.
Wide application
Hiab Sea Cranes perform in the most demanding
environments and across the full range of vessels and
settings, from coast guard operations, tugs, subsea
trenchers and ice breakers to oil drilling platforms and
piers; from navy and cruise ships to dredgers, barges
and pollution recovery vessels.
Superb features
The HIAB Sea Crane is outstanding in comparison with
outdated stiff booms and derricks. The knuckle boom
principle creates exceptional freedom of movement, while
maintaining a maximum lifting capacity, precise load
handling, extra capacity at reduced reach and an optional
total overload protection. To top it off, the crane folds
efficiently into a compact storage space.
Designer convenient outfitting
HIAB Sea Cranes have capacities from 6 ton metres up
to 40 ton metres. Special capacities can be designed and
developed on request. Winches, hydraulic powerpacks and
remote controls are standard issue, matched to the cranes.
The HIAB Sea Crane Handbook is available in printed or
electronic format.
High Lifting Capacity
The link system of outer boom gives additional
power.
A heavy duty double slewing system gives the
capacity to operate the crane at max 5 degrees
of heel and 2 degrees of trim without restriction
of lifting capacity.
Protection against corrosion
for extended lifetime
• SA 2.5 shot blast before primer forms the
base for highest quality painting finish.
• Stainless steel pipes, hose and pipe fittings
used to prevent corrosion in crucial parts.
• Stainless steel bolts used except in
high-tensile parts.
Shot blasted boom
• Hot dip galvanizing in extension booms and
outer boom beam made to withstand harsh
marine environment.
• Double chrome treatment and special seals
on hydraulic cylinders ensure trouble-free
operation in the most demanding conditions.
Hot dip galvanized beam
• Marine painting (primer, middle and final paint)
of 210 micron.
• Oil bath type slewing system makes easy
maintenance and long-life slewing system.
• Strength calculation is carried out in
accordance with EN 13001.
