Rick Scott - Grassy Plains Community Hall
Rick Scott Rick Scott has been a mainstay of the BC music scene since the ‘70s when he toured far and wide with Joe Mock and Shari Ulrich, pioneering rogue folk with Pied Pumkin and Pied Pear. He went on to become his own genre: an award winning singer, songwriter, actor, storyteller and Canada’s leading proponent of Appalachian mountain dulcimer. Rooted in folk and blues, inspired by Pete Seeger, Danny Kaye and Broadway musicals, Rick entertains all ages with laughter, compassion and groove. From folk clubs and festivals to symphonies and schools, he`s released 18 albums and performed his lively, original music in nine countries. He’s Goodwill Ambassador for the Down Syndrome Research Foundation and curator of Protection Island Museum. His eight children’s recordings, co-written and produced by Valley Hennell on their own Jester Records label, have garnered three Juno nominations and NAPPA Gold, Parents’ Choice and Canadian Folk Music Awards. In 2014 he premiered MY SYMPHONY, an educational program introducing children to orchestra, reprised each February with the Vancouver Island Symphony in Nanaimo, BC www.rickscott.ca The Great Plains Great Plains are no strangers to Grassy Plains and are happy to be coming back this summer. Enjoy a taste of Country, a dab of Bluegrass, and a touch of Gospel all wrapped around extremely beautiful melodies. They perform throughout all of Canada and Western Europe and have cultivated an immense following…… winning over their fans one town, one hall at a time. For reviews, CDs and accolades please visit our websites at: www.thegreatplains.ca Or visit us on SASKIANDARRELFACEBOOK Frontal Lobotomy Frontal Lobotomy consists of Raghu Lokanathan, Samantha Scott, and Danny Bell. We started playing together as the host band for the open mic at Nancy O’s Restaurant in Prince George. Playing a smear of folk Canadiana, our sets include originals, songs by our friends, songs by the famous and the obscure, and the odd bit of polka and tango. We aim to keep the Legion dancers happy. Raine Hamilton Resonant, acoustic folk with an other-worldly edge, and a lyric presence that cuts deep. Prism-clear vocals + strings; A combination of vocal agility and power. Raine is part prairie songstress, part storyweaver; Each song has a story, delivered between songs with humour and grace. Expect to laugh, expect to cry. Also, she’s probably shorter than you’re imagining, so expect that, too. Raine invites her love of the violin into the singer-songwriter genre, writing for violin and voice, as well as for guitar and voice. Joined by cello and upright bass, expect string arrangements that push and pull, that move as they console. Reviewers describe Raine's music as “simultaneously earnest and mature” (Daniel Emberg, Stylus Magazine), “complimented by menacing strings and balanced out by Hamilton's sugary vocals” (Nicholas Friesen, The Uniter). Raine has an established history of live shows, including performances for the Governor General of Canada, West End Cultural Centre, Edge of the World Festival (Haida Gwaii BC), Home County Festival (ON), Festival du voyageur, Rainbow Trout, Fire and Water, Harvest Sun, Matlock, Anola Little Music Festival, and the Shine on Festival of Music and Arts. http://www.rainehamilton.com/ Folky Strum Strum The People that make up Folky Strum Strum play their version of Banjo Rockin’ folk music.
