Earlier this morning nearly 90 pre-74 classics
set off on the ’Tour’, this drive through the
beautiful local countryside is for those
enthusiasts who like to use their classics.

After breakfast on the green and a
natter about their cars, the crews set
off following a route using ’tulips’ pictorial representations of junctions
first used on Dutch rallies in the 50’s.
This year the route took the classics in a figure of
eight route of around 60 miles, firstly to the North
East to Dunsfold and the pretty village of Alford
then via Kirdford to our refreshment stop at the
Stag Inn, Balls Cross. The second leg skirted
Petworth, through Fittleworth and on to West
Chiltington become returning via Wisbourgh
Green and Northchapel. Tour numbers are limited,

Terry has had a full years motoring in the Triumph TR6 without breaking down.
116 Triumph TR5 VMD 340G Matthew Petzold, Haslemere.
The rarest of all Triumph sportscars, less than 3000 produced and sold worldwide.
117 Citroen Traction Avant Cabriolet 870 COO Mark Cooper, Cobham. An original
1939 factory built convertible, only around 40 left worldwide and is unique in the UK.
Mark found his car in Norway in 2007 and fully restored it in 2010.

Baking
Bake-off is back. For the second year we are running our fun
baking competition.
Baking has become popular again and in keeping with our ‘traditional
fete’ we are delighted to offer this fun challenge to make any large cake
you fancy, decorated however you like. Children under 16 have to make four
cupcakes. The judging criteria is just that they look and taste good.
We are very excited to have Kenwood onboard to sponsor the
competition and they have very generously offered a Kenwood K-mix
stand mixer RRP £399.99 as first prize in the adult competition. Waitrose
have also given a prize of a ‘goody bag’ of baking ingredients and the
Creative Cookie Company have offered a stencil Decorating Starter Kit as
first prize for the kids.
Judging starts at 1pm and we have an interesting judging panel lined up
for the difficult task of sampling all those cakes!

available for you to buy at the WI Teas.

late 80’s and has completed many European tours and a trip to the Artic Circle.

loads of history and a famous first owner. Genuine 73,000 miles.

All original and restored, owned by the orignal purchaser until 2008. Louis and Darren
haven’t had it resprayed as they think it’s freckles give it character!
185 Datsun 240Z RBK 142H Jan Jacobsen, Liphook. A very early ‘Z’ produced in
Japan in 1970 and shipped to the Texas where it stayed until late 2010. This model was a
world-beating machine with many race and rally wins over the years.

156 Daimler SP250 250 BOL Lorimer Burn, Guildford. Found as a wreck in a field in
Nottinghamshire. Completely rebuilt over five years. Owned by Lorimer for 15 years.
157 Fiat 2300S Coupe RWT 59 Peter Jerram, Long Ditton. A luxury GT produced from
1963-68 and referred to as ‘the poor man’s Ferrari’. Abarth tuned straight 6. Only eight in
the UK. When new it cost 50% more than an E-type Jag due to import taxes.
158 Sunbeam Talbot 90 MFJ 826 Joy & Paul Rundell, Alresford.
Restored in the 1990’s and now used as a second car with power steering and other
minor modifications to fit in with modern traffic.
159 Aston Martin DB2/3 MkI TTT 707 John Moulton, Compton. The first owner
Captain Parish, returned the car to Aston Martin Works in 1957 to have front disc brakes
and a modified MkIII DB2/4 bonnet and nose cone fitted. One of 565 MkI’s built by AM.
160 Humber 9/20 Tourer EL 1179 Nigel Coulter, Hindhead. A typical vintage touring
car of 9HP and the smallest in the Humber range of the 20’s. Owned by Mrs Angela
Fordham, widow of Brian Fordham who used the car extensively.
161 AC Greyhound 200 YPN Reginald Warlop, London.
One of 83 built. In original 1962 paint with one owner for nearly 50 years.
162 Daimler EL24 604 XVW Henry Curwen, Headley Down. This Daimler bodied
limousine was rescued from a barn near Blackburn in 1999 and restored to the original
spec including Wilton carpets and Bedford Cord upholstery. Henry acquired it in 2012 and
is gragually completing the final details while using it socially and for weddings.

164 Triumph TR6 CKP 732K Ron Walker, Hindhead. All original, owned from new and
completely rebuilt by the owner, this Triumph has under 45,000 miles on the clock.
165 Innocenti Mini Cooper JUG 390M Jamie Eason, Plaistow. An Italian built Mini.
166 Triumph Stag OLF 686P Peter Harper, Horndean. In Topaz, one of the rare Stag
colours - 70’s all the way!

Restored 18 years ago by acclaimed A35 expert Nigel Stevenson
and featured in many articles in the owners club magazine. Known
to many as ‘Supervan’.
169 Jaguar E-type Roadster 36 NOU Nick Lees, West Lavington.
A stunning example of the ‘most beautiful car ever designed’ according to Enzo Ferrari. Nick’s car was the 462nd produced, the
first 500 were close to ‘handbuilt’.
170 Fiat Belvedere HSJ 814 Jan Chantrill, Haslemere. One of only
60 RHD Fiat 500 Belvedere’s produced. Shipped new to Nyasaland,
Africa the car was returned to the UK with it’s 3rd owner in the 80’s.
Recentley restored but has to work hard with only 570cc.
171 Stanley 606 SV 7143 Mike Mutters, Haslemere. 1914 non-condensing steam
powered car. Restored in the late 90’s. Petrol/Parafin fired with boiler pressure at 500psi.
172 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV EMG 431J Nigel Tyrrell, Haslemere.
173 Daimler SP250 897 EOE Keith Simpson, Headley Down.
This 1960 Daimler was in Norway and Finland from 1982-2010.
174 Lancia Fulvia 1.3 Coupe LKD 838R Pietro Vitolo, Hindhead.
Has had a total bare metal respray.
175 Fiat 124 Sport Spider DGK 374S Philip & Hattie Jones-Lloyd, Northchapel.
A 2+2 convertible based on the 124 Sedan and styled by Pininfarina. This example was
imported from california by the present owner in 2001 and now has a 2L Abarth engine.

Pretty convertible in Ivory White with a red interior and matching red hood.

Fun
A fun day for everybody...
As well as the cars there are lots of
activities for the whole family. The WI are
doing Cream Teas and you can listen to (or
dance to!) The George Regis Jazz Band who will be playing a selection of
traditional New Orleans marches, conventional ‘trad’ and 1920’s tunes. The
band, a popular feature at the show, will, weather permitting, wander amongst
the cars entertaining you in style. www.georgesregisjazzband.com
For the kids there are some rides and a bouncy Galleon to play on and local
charities will be running traditional style fete activities to amuse.
Around the perimeter of the Green there are a great selection of stalls selling
local produce, crafts, art, vintage and classic car related goods, so lots of
opportunities for shopping, plus hot and cold food and then why not relax with
a drink in the Festival Bar. Next to the bar the Haslemere Fringe Festival will
be selling tickets for the 2014 Fringe to be held on the Green on the 4-6 July.
