A Prayer for A New School Year
God of wisdom and might,
we praise you for the wonder of our being,
for mind, body and spirit.
Be with our children as they begin
a new school year.
Bless them and their teachers and staff.
Give them strength and grace as their bodies
grow;
wisdom and knowledge in their minds
as they search for understanding;
and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

From Our Ministries
In the weeks leading up to our annual ministry fair (Oct. 1/2)
we will profile our various ministries
Hospitality Ministry – Coffee Sunday On
Sunday mornings following the 8:30
(currently once a month) and 10:00 am
Masses we gather in community to share in fellowship. This is an opportunity for us to meet new friends
and re-connect with old friends. For our community to
grow in faith and love it is important we get to know
one another and spend time together.
To keep this ministry going and growing, we need your
help. Those who host the Sunday gatherings help in
the preparation of the set-up, make coffee, bring
baked goods to share, and greet the parishioners and
guests. You can help in this ministry on a rotating basis. We have teams who host the event once a month.
If you would like to learn more about this ministry and
how you can get involved contact the church office.
We thank all those who have served in the past year
and welcome new members. Our coffee Sundays will
resume after Labour Day. May God Bless you for your
generosity.

speak out on issues of justice/social conditions. We collectively address concerns to political and social institutions to
effect change for the poor and deprived in society. As
members of the society we respect the dignity of all the
people we meet and serve. Your continuous support towards supporting us serve others less fortunate is valued.
Please mark your envelopes to the “SVDP Society”. If you
require assistance call 403-397-6028.

St. Mary's CWL The Catholic Women’s League
(CWL) is the largest national organization of
Catholic women. Rooted in gospel values, CWL
calls its members to holiness through service
to the people of God (CWL, 2012, Our Mission, ¶1).
CWL sisters work together at a common table for a
common good. The activities of St. Mary’s CWL include, but are not limited to, an annual retreat, an annual bake/craft sale, hosting the Children’s Christmas
party, and wrapping Christmas presents for the St.
Vincent de Paul Society. This year we organized our
first parish “Marian Walk for Life”. Meetings are held
monthly on a Saturday after the 9:00 am Mass. Our
next meeting takes place Sept. 10th. All women of the
parish are welcome to join the CWL. Please contact
Rita for more information ([email protected]).
Next week we will profile more ministries.
Children's Liturgy of the Word resumes Sept. 4th.
Children aged 3-6 are invited forward following the
Opening prayer to join the leaders in a newly decorated room in the Rectory Hall. There they will listen to the
Gospel, read from the Children’s lectionary, and share in a
reflection at their level of understanding. They will return to
their families during the offertory collection. For more information please contact Rita at [email protected].
The Pastoral Care Team of St. Mary’s would be
pleased to visit and bring the Eucharist to the
shut-ins of our parish. Please call 403-228-4170 to
make arrangements for a visit.
Stewardship reflection for the
Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:33)
When we first hear this statement, it seems that Jesus
is making an unrealistic demand upon us. How can we
renounce all of our possessions? We need them to
live. However, what we must renounce is the belief
that they belong to us. Everything that we have belongs to God alone. All of our resources are entrusted
to us not only for our own use, but also so that we can
help others. Once we renounce the idea that we possess or are entitled to anything, it is much easier to
share the many gifts that God has given us. Then we
truly are His Disciples.” (http://archstl.org/stewardship/page/bulletin-inserts)
