We had the opportunity to celebrate the graduation of 10 seniors on the same day we celebrated Pentecost with the release of balloons. Father’s Day brought a presentation of pics of dads and the giving of specially- wrapped candies by the UMW. Remember that when the call goes out for pics or videos for presentation on special Sundays , please respond so we can have a truly representative presentation. I Reverend Jamie pray our 5th Sunday Lunch and Silent Auction were a huge success. The Trustees have been busy with AC repairs brought on by the hot weather, repositioning the Fisher Chapel Historical Marker, reattaching the bus cover, as well as replacing sinks and keeping the property presentable to guests and members alike. Thank you so much for all your hard work. In July our UMM as well as Evangelism and other groups will be working with the City for our July 4th Celebration at the Park followed by our Church Lot July 4th Party which includes cold drinks, grilled food, ice cream social, a wet slide, and music! Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the festivities culminating with one of the best fireworks displays-- with a great view from our parking lot! July also brings our District Summer Camp as well as the UMW Garage Sale at the end of the month. Kandace and I will be leaving on our “Once in a Lifetime” motorcycle trip to Oregon by way of Surprise, Arizona. We will be leaving you in the more than capable hands of Reggie Clemmons on July 27th, Elijah Stansell on August 3rd, and Winston Goens on August 10th-- so enjoy the break from my stale preaching! A District Superintendent once asked me why I felt it wise to bring in such powerful preachers in my absence! Wasn’t I intimidated by the added pressure of following them? I replied, “The people deserve the best, and if I can’t match up then I need to do better!” So enjoy! If you are going away on vacation or plan on being out for a period of time, please remember your church in your prayers and use our on- line giving tools to make sure that the church is in a good position financially throughout the summer and into the fall. Kandace and I are so happy to have been reappointed to serve in this place for another year, and we pray that together we will continue to listen for God’s will for our church. Have a great, productive, and restful summer. God’s Peace Pastor Jamie & Kandace First United Methodist Church Mont Belvieu June PAGE 15 T HE F LA R E V O LU M E 1 , I S S U E 1 Attendance Worship Schedule 6/1 - 121 9:00 am - 9:45 am Contemporary Service 6/8 –144 Kelsey Guentzel July 3 Tim Jamerson July 24 6-15—95 Shasta Mitchell July 4 Debbie Juergens July 24 6-22—96 Lauren Duckworth July 5 Joanna Mitchell July 24 Jeremy Malona July 6 Nathan Garner July 25 Janelle Harvey July 11 Ashley Bercaw July 27 Gene Baker July 12 Kaitlyn Bercaw July 27 Perry McCoy July 15 Weldon Harrison July 27 Tina Stanley July 15 Victoria McCoy July 27 Leah Sparkman July 16 Becky Rice July 27 Bill Amber July 17 David Sailer July 29 Presley Perran July 19 Travis Warren July 30 LaVerne Tumlinson July 20 Lucy Ambler July 30 Stephen Payne July 22 Beth Jernigan July 30 9:50 am - 10:40 am Sunday School 10:45 am - Noon Traditional Worship Service Open Hearts, Open minds, Open doors UMW Garage Sale July 31st & August 1 8am-4p August 2nd 8am-noon Donations Needed!!!!! Our pantry is well stocked. If you would like to make a donation we can use—Cereal, tomatoes, fruits, & canned ravioli. 45 Families served this month Through the generosity of a former member who grew up during the era when Fisher Chapel was THE Methodist Church in Mont Belvieu, a new historical marker designates the location and history of the beloved little chapel. Mrs. Temple Sue Benson Dunaway (pictured) funded the new marker, replacing the old one which had developed a stress crack—-possibly from the strong hurricane winds of a few years back. Mrs. Dunaway’s mother, Barbara Fitzgerald Benson, was instrumental in getting approval from the State of Texas for the original marker and the one which marks the entrance to the Methodist Cemetery on Main Street in Mont Belvieu. Mrs. Benson also wrote a book on the history of the First United Methodist Church, Mont Belvieu, published in 1977 on the 100th anniversary of the church. Also pictured is church Trustee Robert Barrow repositioning the marker. PAGE 12 T HE F LA R E Update on Aubrey Dusek special needs children. She wore a shirt that says, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength" and smiled from ear to ear. Aubrey was also chosen by Spirit Horse in Liberty to participate in a summer session of equine therapy. The therapists can’t wait to see how this therapy helps her developmental progress. Aubrey has an undiagnosed condition that causes her to have vision impairment, developmental delays and low muscle tone. God is working in her and through her daily. She is loved by many! THE F L A RE PAGE 5 e t a d p U On Aubrey Dusek Aubrey had an exciting month of June. She was chosen by Laurenland Photography to participate in a photo shoot for HizHouse Continues To Stay Busy! Summer is here and we are making some adjustments on Sundays to accommodate the fluctuation of our kiddos and our teachers due to vacations and some well-needed rest. We will continue to have The Treehouse from 9:45am - 10:40am except we will be holding it in a one-room format. A similar format will continue in FunDay School during the traditional service. We will excuse the children after Children's Moment, but we will study as one group vs breaking out by age. As always, we encourage the kids to stay in the sanctuary on Communion Sundays. MARK YOUR CALENDARS for Jungle Safari - Where Kids Explore the Nature of God. We are so excited about our VBS this year! Hold August 3rd through the 7th from 6pm 8:30pm. Volunteers and donations are always needed - look for the signup! Also, registration for BOTH children and volunteers is available through www.fumcmb.com - look for the Jungle Safari icon!
