WELCOME!
We hope you have enjoyed our 2016 season shows as much as we have
enjoyed choosing them and seeing them come to life. Our upcoming
2017 season is alive with many new productions providing a variety
of subjects that should please everyone. Beauty and the Beast will be
our first co-production with Inland Valley Repertory Theatre (IVRT),
celebrating a 10-year relationship.
We are also presenting two highly requested encores, plus our always
original, always heartwarming holiday show, which will continue the
tradition of focusing on family and the spirit and meaning of Christmas.
Of course none of this would be possible without your continuing
loyalty and support. You are always topmost on our minds when
we choose shows, and we thank you for making it possible for us to
continue this tradition of top class entertainment preceded by top class
food specially created for each show. We extend our deepest gratitude
and look forward to seeing you in 2017.

Enter the magical world of Belle and the Beast
in this classic story of love and friendship.
Translated for the stage in 1991 by Alan Menken
and Howard Ashman, it has since become an
international hit having played to over 35 million
people worldwide. This classic fairytale tells the
story of Belle, a young woman in a small town
with dreams of bigger things, and her encounter
with the Beast, who is actually a prince under
the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn
to love then his spell will be lifted, but time is
running out, and he risks dooming his household
for all eternity.

FEBRUARY 10 – MARCH 25
Thursday evening performance only available on March 23
42nd Street
Aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer leaves her
hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania for a shot
at the big stage in New York City. With only
her tap shoes and her dream, Peggy is able to
catch the eye of legendary Broadway director
Julian Marsh and land a spot in his upcoming
production, Pretty Lady. As the new girl in the
chorus line, Peggy is quickly singled out by the
show’s lead, Dorothy Brock. But when Dorothy is
injured in the show’s preview, Pretty Lady needs
a new lead. Full of popular musical theater
standards, this musical is a celebration of the
industry and is sure to please.
MARCH 31 – APRIL 29
Thursday evening performance only available on April 27; contains mild adult situations
Equal parts modern allegory and fun historic
retelling, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Jesus
Christ Superstar has something for everyone. The
story of Christ’s last seven days is seen through a
lens of the late ’60s, comparing his meteoric rise
to that of contemporary celebrities. Borrowing
from the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and
John, the story follows the Roman Empire’s
increasing distrust of Jesus and his following.
When Judas betrays Jesus to the Roman Empire,
Jesus and his followers face the ultimate test
of their belief. Driven by a stirring score, Jesus
Christ Superstar runs the gamut of emotion, with
satirical humor, thought-provoking edge, and
emotional intensity.
MAY 5 – JUNE 3

The Hilarious Celebration of Women and The Change!®
Over the past 14 years, millions of people
worldwide have been laughing about Menopause,
a musical parody staged to hit tunes from the
‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. Set in a department store,
four diverse women come together over shared
experiences regarding menopause. Poking
fun at hot flashes, forgetfulness, night sweats,
and desires for chocolate, the all-female cast
empowers individuals to look at menopause as a
stage in people’s lives rather than taboo.
JUNE 9 – JULY 29
When a tornado hits Dorothy Gale’s Kansas hometown
she is transported to the enchanting land of Oz. Told that
the Wizard of Oz can send her back to Kansas, she teams
up with the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, and Cowardly Lion
to embark on a quest to Emerald City. On their way they
must avoid the Wicked Witch of the West, who seeks to
retrieve her dead sister’s magic ruby slippers from Dorothy’s
feet. Throughout their quest various roadblocks test each
character, but with love, courage, and intelligence they stand
a good chance to make it to Emerald City.
AUGUST 4 – SEPTEMBER 9

Stationed on a beautiful Pacific Island during
WWII, two Americans face similar romantic
relationships that are threatened by prejudice
and war. A high-spirited nurse named Nellie
falls in love with an older French planter, Emile.
When Nellie finds out that Emile has fathered
children with a native on the island, her narrowmindedness threatens their relationship.
Separately, a soldier named Joe Cable falls in
love with a Tonkinese girl on the island, but is
ashamed by the same fears Nellie has of her
relationship. When Emile and Joe are sent on a
mission together, both women contemplate their
relationships as they wait in hope.
SEPTEMBER 15 –OCTOBER 14

Frank Sinatra once said that the secret
of success was to sing great songs.
With the musical tribute My Way,
the Candlelight plans to bring these
same songs to the stage. Rather than
attempting to impersonate a legend, My
Way smartly features a cast of two men
and two women singing nearly 50 songs
popularized by Sinatra. Accompanied by
a live band, the singers will perform such
songs as “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Love and
Marriage,” “I Get a Kick Out of You” and
more. Come and join us for a celebration
of Sinatra’s style, his era, and some of the
20th century’s most enduring tunes.
OCTOBER 20 – NOVEMBER 25
Thursday evening performance only available on November 16
Set in the late 1970s, 9 to 5 was written based on a book
by Patricia Resnick. When three female co-workers
are sick of the misogyny and deceit of their male boss,
they daydream about what it would be like if he were
not around. When an opportunity allows the women to
control the office, they change their oppressive workplace
into a better environment. With music and lyrics written
by Dolly Parton, this laugh-out-loud story of friendship
and retribution is sure to get some of its hit songs stuck in
your head.

The Sounds
of Christmas
In 1985, the Candlelight Pavilion hosted its
first Christmas show, and for more than
30 years we have continued the tradition
of writing and producing each of our
Christmas shows with a focus on the spirit
of the season and bringing family and
friends together. We invite you to continue
your Christmas traditions with us as we
celebrate with an all-new story, The Sounds
of Christmas. As is always the tradition
here at the Candlelight Pavilion, Santa and
Mama stay after the performance to meet
guests. Don’t forget your cameras!
CANDLELIGHT
CONCERT SERIES
We are proud to continue our concert series in 2017, expanded this
year to include both a winter and summer concert series. Concerts are
Wednesdays and Thursdays*; doors open at 6:45, show at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $25. No dinner is served*; beverages and desserts are available
for purchase. The concert series will go on sale to season subscribers on
November 1, 2016 and to the general public on November 15, 2016.
*The Faces of the King concert on Tuesday, February 14 is a Valentine’s Day dinner performance;
doors open at 6 p.m. and show is at 8 p.m.

STAGED READING SERIES
From Film to the Stage!
The Candlelight warmly invites you to our second year of the Staged Reading Series, “From Film to the Stage.” This year, we are featuring musicals
that were adapted from screenplays. Three different musicals have been selected for this season in order to provide you, the musical theater
patron, with even more of musical theater’s greatest shows. The format is the same as our inaugural season, with some of the audience’s favorite
past and present performers from the Candlelight Stage reading and singing directly from the score and book.
Tickets for the Reading Series are $20, and the shows fall on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.; shows begin at 7:30
p.m.. No dinner is served, but beverages and desserts are available for purchase. The Staged Reading Series will go on sale to season subscribers
November 1, 2016 and to the general public on November 15, 2016.
January 25 & 26
It’s conman versus conman in this delightful comedy
based on the popular 1988 MGM film. After meeting
on a train two men find out that they have a similar
profession—swindling rich ladies out of their money.
When they realize that the small town they live in isn’t
big enough for both of them, they agree on a settlement.
The first one to get $50,000 out of a young heiress
wins, and the other must leave town. Originally winning
11 Tony Awards, this suave musical is certainly a crowd
pleaser. With a jazzy score from David Yazbek (The Full
Monty) and a plot filled with twists and turns, Dirty Rotten
Scoundrels is as sophisticated a musical as it is hilarious.
May 10 & 11
Featuring a tuneful score by Tony-winning songwriters
Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Seussical), this
wonderfully tender adaptation of the hit Peter O’Toole film
is classic musical comedy. Set in New York City in 1954,
it’s about a TV comedy show writer’s assistant named
Benjy Stone who is given the task of baby-sitting veteran
Hollywood actor Alan Swann before he appears on Benjy’s
show.

Every opening night (excluding Beauty and the Beast and The Sounds of
Christmas) is a $25 show-only preview. No dinner served, but waiter service
for beverages and desserts will be available. No discounts available for
these performances.
