Homecoming Workday, Parade & Spirit Night
On September 18th each
class had a fun-filled day.
Students were to build floats,
decorate plywood boards
and windows in the lobby for
homecoming. Each class was
able to finish by the end of day.
Finshed projects were judged
at the end of the day. Floats
were judged later in the week.
Spirit night began on
September 23rd. Students
participated in a volleyball
tournament. Mr. Ugly and Ms.
Digger were announced;
represented by Gus Hetcher
and Taylor Ploessl.
Homecoming King and Queen
were represented by Colton
Reynolds and Brielle Baliff.
Reps from the senior class
were Payton Brinkman and
Christian Reynolds. Juniors
were represented by Whitney
Churchill and Luke Baliff.
Representing the Sophomore
class was Abi Borcherding
and Wade Okey. From
the Freshman class, Kyran
Brinkman and Ty Bausch
represented.
On Friday, September
25th, the homecoming
parade started at 1:30 p.m.

“Legacy” Continues to Help Make a Difference
On October 6th, Mr.
Lavelle’s Environmental
Science, Biology I, Biology
II, and a group of senior
volunteers partook in Legacy.
Legacy was established in
the year 2000 and has been
continued since.
Students worked with U.S.
Fish and Wildlife, the Audubon
Society, and Aveda Haircare
Products across the ferry near
Turkey Valley, Iowa. There
they spent the day planting
native trees to help limit the
population growth of invasive
tree species in that region. For
lunch, U.S. Fish and Wildlife
provided grilled hot dogs
and beverages! Mr. Lavelle
said, “The new individuals
working with Legacy were
impressed with the work ethic
of all students. They said they
would like to work with us in
the future and we are excited
to do so.”

Comets Cruising Towards Post-Season
This year’s Comets led by
Senior and leading rusher, Caleb
Dahse, have clinched a
post-season birth behind an
impressive 5-3 record
(5-2 Conference play). The
Comets are coached by Doug
Fure who is assisted by
Jeff Hetcher, Elijah Okey, Chad
Infield, Pat Reynolds, and
Kevin Kreuger. This year’s team
consists of Seniors Dylan
Ganahl-Johll, Christian Reynolds,
Colton Reynolds, Cam Jensen,
Trey Dressler, James Haas, Gus
Hetcher, Caleb Adams, Todd
Haverland, Keegan Morley, and
Tyler Torstenson-Harris;
Junior High
Football Leaves
it all on the
Gridiron
Despite struggling this
season, the Junior High Comets
left blood, sweat, and tears on
the field. Although they finished
their season winless, the effort
and energy they played with was
more than evident. This year’s
team was coached by Jordan
Thoma, Justin Rouse, and Nick
Hauk. The members consisted
of 8th Graders Christian Fure,
Carter Matousek, Brandon Klein,
Collin Johl, Logan Churchill, Sam
Ihm; 7th Graders Levi
Hampton, Jessie Meyer; 6th
Graders Jonah Vogt, Cody Klein,
and Austin Rauch. Next year, the
returning athletes look forward
to finishing with a better record.
Sophomores Ben Wheeler,
Brandon Kinyon, Nick Murray,
Matt Reynolds, Parker Johll,
and Wade Okey; and Freshmen
Ty Bausch, Mason Infield, Kaleb
Hauk, Colin Esser, Brennan
Mellem, and Gavin Thoma. The
Comets played against Belmont
October 16th and won 48-12. The
first playoff game will be here on
Saturday, October 24th, at 2:00
p.m. vs. Randolph.
The Comets are looking
forward to a successful postseason run. Before the postseason begins, Coach Fure and
Coach Hetcher have many goals
for their talented team. Coach
Comet Corner is

75¢ granola bars
Watch for
“Donut Day!”
Hetcher wants his team to shut
out their opponents and to,
“score on defense.” Coach Fure,
on the other hand, wants to
come out with a victory against
Belmont and hopes to be
playing football in November.
As he believes this deep playoff
run will happen, he wants to,
“start a deer hunting beard as the
football season is still going on.”
JV Football Shines as Season
Nears End
Much like their varsity
counterparts, the Junior
Varsity football squad has
posted a more than impressive
record of 5-1 behind first-year
coach JV Elijah Okey. This
team includes Senior Trey
Dressler, and all Sophomores
and Freshmen. Coach Okey
emphasizes teamwork and to
improve on a daily basis. On the
offensive side of the ball, Okey
focused on executing plays. On
the defensive side, to work on
fundamentals to prepare them
for the oncoming years at the
varsity level. In the years to
come, fans can look forward to
seeing playmakers Mason Infield,
Ty Bausch, and Colin Esser to lead
the Comets.

Trap Shooting Making Great Strides
This year will be Cassville’s
second year of having a
trap shooting team. This year’s
trap shooting team consists
of: Caleb Dahse, Will Baliff,
Ricky Lenz, Jack Jensen, Sam
Ihmes, AJ Butler, and Brandon
Kinyon. Trap shooting takes
place on Thursday nights at the
Conservation Club where these
individuals shoot two rounds, 25
shots each. Their score is then
put into a computer with other
participants in Wisconsin and
placed at State Trap Shoot.
Sophomores Brandon Kinyon
and Jack Jensen along with
Senior Caleb Dahse have shot 25
straight.
Sophomore Jack Jensen
currently holds the highest score
of 23.7 as an average and is tied
for #1 in state in only the first two
weeks of shooting! This year
State will take place in Rome,
Wisconsin where you can shoot
Lady Comets Set their Sights
on Finishing the Season Strong
This season the Lady Comets
have battled through adversity
but have persevered and look
forward to post season success.
After this season, Cassville’s
volleyball team will greatly miss
the Seniors which are: Bailie
Becwar, Taylor Ploessl, Andrea
Okey, Jenna Baliff, Brielle Baliff,
Ryle Laufenberg, and Isa Ortiz.
Other members include
Junior Mahcoy Mumm, and
Sophomore Madelyn Nix.
The Varsity girls had their
shining moment with their
two-game win streak after
successfully beating Potosi and
Belmont. Currently their
record stands at 4-7, but they are
expecting a strong effort in the
playoff. The Lady Comets are
coached by Micki Becwar and
assisted by Holly Fishnick.
JV Volleyball Finishes Strong
Coached by Holly Fishnick, this
years JV volleyball team members
are: Kierstin Adams, Madison
Kirschbaum, Kyran Brinkman,
Christal Bean, Paige Johll, Isabel
Ortiz, Abi Borcherding,
Melody Hampton, Brianna
Ploessl, Kasha Vogt, and Rylie
Laufenberg. With teamwork and
a great amount of effort, these
ladies ended their season with a
record of 5-6 against River Ridge.

of their season was beating
conference rival Potosi during
their annual Dig Pink game.

to travel there. This fall there
were two practice weeks and
five competition weeks. The
Spring season will be longer.

Perseveres
through Long
Season
Despite not having a
winning record, the Jr. High
volleyball team played their
hearts out. They ended the
season with a record of 6-14. This
year’s Junior High team consisted
of: Sami Bartels, Lindsey Hudson,
Erynn Little, Jade McDonald,
Laura Walker, Anna Kartman,
Lydia Reynolds, Riana Reynolds,
Grace Vogt, and Brenna Wheeler.
They were coached by Tina
McDonald. Coach McDonald said,
“We had a fairly good season.
The girls worked hard, improved
so much on their mad volleyball
skills and most importantly came
together as a team! They are
a FUN group of girls and I can
only hope they continue to love
the game! Two words...Hokey
Pokey.”

Isa Ortiz - “The Difference”
National Dynamic Speaker
Chris Bowers, a national motivational speaker,
spoke at Cassville on Monday, October 19. He spoke to
Elementary Students at 10:15 and 7-12th Grade students
at 1:30 p.m. He is dedicated to the positive influence
and motivation of students through humor. He uses
his dynamic story telling skills to make students laugh.

Honors Choir helps kick
off the school year

Honors Choir was on
September 22 at the University of
Dubuque. Students that traveled
to honors choir included Danielle
Ackerman, Payton Brinkman,
Tiara Durns, Rylie Laufenberg,
Chase Lopez, Makayla Bennett,
Maddie Nix, Kyran Brinkman,
Dylan Duvall, and Melody
Hampton. Every school in the
Six Rivers Conference attended
the event. Honors choir is an
opportunity for students to meet
with other schools and work with
professionals and perform as a
group. Cassville choir teacher,
Maxwell McNett, said that the
event went very well and was a
success.

“The Merry Wives of Windsor”
On Wednesday, September
30, Juniors and Seniors in Mrs.
Bernhardt’s and Mrs. Jacobson’s
English classes traveled to the
American Player’s Theater in
Spring Green, Wisconsin to view
a performance of Shakespeare’s
“The Merry Wives of
Windsor.” This comedy, set in
Shakespeare’s time in England,
managed to make everyone in
the theater laugh at the many
jokes, both subtle and obvious,
that were part of the play. This

On October 5, 2015, Mrs.
Marty and Mrs. Breuer had the
pleasure of taking the Junior
class on a trip to UW-Platteville
for a day to get a tour of
the college and to help with
their college decisions next
year. The students also got to
tour the inside of the Activity
Center, as well as see the many
buildings on campus. They also
received a free lunch on the
trip, courtesy of UW Platteville.
Overall, the trip was enjoyable
and we hope the university will
be kind enough to allow next
year’s juniors to visit and tour
the school as well!

FFA Travels to
World Dairy Expo
World Dairy Expo in
Madison, Wisconsin took place
on September 29th. Six high
school students attended,
including Jenna Baliff, Brielle
Baliff, Will Baliff, Collin Esser,
Brandon Kinyon, and Nicky
Murray.
The students were
separated into two teams--the
Dairy Products Team and the
Cattle Team. The Dairy Products
team consisted of Jenna Baliff,
Brielle Baliff, and Will Baliff.
The team placed 23 out of 198,
while Will Baliff placed 19 out of
222. The Cattle Team consisted
of Collin Esser, Brandon
Kinyon, and Nicky Murray. This
team placed 110 out of 132 with
Brandon Kinyon placing 18th out
of 391 as an individual.

a great time working with and
meeting some of the many
people at the expo!

The Addam’s Family. The show
follows the mysterious Addam’s

Business Club Increases Numbers
The 2015-16 Business Club
has increased its numbers to
twelve members this year.
Members include Bailie Becwar,
Caleb Dahse, Jared Kartman,
Andrea Okey, Taylor Ploessl,
Jenna Baliff, Ally Clauer, Keegan
Morley, Walker Gotzinger,
Rylie Laufenberg, Skyla Hyer,
and Kennedy McMillan. Mrs.
Oswald—their BIT Instructor—
is the advisor. The mission of
the Cassville Business Club is to
promote the Cassville School
District and the Community of
Cassville through social media.
Currently the club manages the
Comet Nation and Mississippi
Magic Facebook pages and also
assists Mrs. Oswald with the
school’s website at times.
This energetic group of
students has many goals they
wish to accomplish this year and
are fundraising to accomplish
those. Currently, Comet Corner
is open each morning and during
homeroom to offer many hot
beverages including cappuccino,
hot chocolate, apple cider, and
coffee. The club has expanded
their offerings this year at Comet
Corner to also include bottled
water and granola bars before

One of the most important
goals the club is working towards
is a two-day trip to Chicago this
fall or in the spring. Mrs. Oswald
has several ideas for business
tours there and also wants
students to tour the Federal
Reserve building.
Presently, the Business
Club is working closely with the
community and businesses on
promotion of both and hope
to further develop the school/
community bond. Stay tuned
for more information on a
unique opportunity our school/
community has to work together
along with several students and
professors from the Taliesin
School of Architecture in Spring
Green. Mr. Luster and Mrs.
Oswald, along with community
members, will be attending
a meeting regarding this
opportunity on Tuesday, October
20 to find out more information!
