Sofia Vergara On Her Fight Against Thyroid Cancer
The 2014 Angel Ball was an opportunity for stars and philanthropists to get together and raise money
and awareness for cancer research.
Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet outside the gala
celebration, and the Colombian star stopped to talk to ET about her own reasons for supporting the
event.
"I had thyroid cancer some years ago," the 42-year-old actress revealed. "But it's not only because of
that. [Cancer] is such a horrible sickness that we all should help anyways, even if you have never had it."
When Vegara was 28 years old, she had to have her thyroid removed and undergo radioactive iodine
therapy. According to an interview she did with The New York Times, she now has to take daily doses of
medication to battle hypothyroidism.

New York’s A-list gathered at Cipriani Wall Street last night for the Angel Ball, the signature fundraising
event for Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research. Hosted by Grammy-nominated songwriter
Denise Rich, the black-tie soiree honored His Excellency Yousef Al Otaiba, United Arab Emirates
Ambassador to the United States, and Mrs. Abeer Al Otaiba; four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion
and Founder of the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, Jeff Gordon; Jho Low, Chief Executive Officer of
Jynwel Capital Limited and Director of the Jynwel Charitable Foundation Limited; and multi-Grammy
Award-winning producer and composer Nile Rodgers.
The evening kicked off with an incredible performance by The Voice’s Avery Wilson, followed by a
surprise performance by Alicia Keys. Honoree Nile Rodgers and Chic kept the momentum going as the
crowd got to their feet and danced along to “Le Freak,” “Everybody Dance,” “Good Times,” and “We Are
Family.”
Following a gourmet seated dinner, Jamie Foxx performed an all-star set before being joined on stage by
surprise guest Ludacris. The duo even pulled audience members up on the stage to dance and sing
along!

Now that’s what you call a pregnancy glow. Last night at the Angel Ball in New York City, we couldn’t
take our eyes off mom-to-be Blake Lively, who proved us wrong once again by looking even more
stunning than usual. Draped in a Gucci Cruise 2015 pale yellow silk long sleeve silk gown with a plunging
neckline enhanced with silver crystal tubular embroidery, Lively was the center of attention when she
walked the red carpet, escorted by hubby Ryan Reynolds, marking the first public appearance of the
couple together since the announcement that they were expecting (below). Could they be any cuter?
Sigh.
Since the announcement of her pregnancy just two weeks ago via her lifestyle site Preserve, Lively
has already been making a slew of public appearances (she wore a quartet of outfits over the
weekend, including puppy print trousers with a matching blouse).

Lively announced she was pregnant with the couple's first child in early October.
NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Blake Lively's baby bump made its second red carpet appearance Monday
night at the Angel Ball 2014 in New York City.
Lively was accompanied by her husband Ryan Reynolds for the event, which marked the couple's first
official outing together since the actress' pregnancy was announced earlier this month.
Lively was glowing while walking the event's red carpet in a skintight Gucci gown with ample cleavage
while Reynolds kept it chic in a black tux with a matching shirt and bow-tie.
The couple, married since 2012, has been gushing about their unborn child in all of their recent
interviews. Lively recently revealed she always knew she wanted to be a mother and Reynolds discussed
possible baby names with eTalk.
"I don't want a name that's anything pretentious or, like, Hollywoody," the Green Lantern actor said. "So
I'm going with Excalibur Anaconda Reynolds...that's if it's a girl."
