File - Archbishop Chapelle High School
April 2016 Dear Parents:
The end of Lent and the celebration of Easter means that spring has sprung! I see spring as a time of
hope and renewal as the cold winter months are behind us and the days are getting longer and warmer.
Spring brings an abundance of activity here at Chapelle. From concerts and performances to athletic
events, our students are busy showcasing their talents and abilities that have come as a result of all of
their hard work all year. We invite you to come out and enjoy some of these events over the next couple
months. I know you will not be disappointed!
With spring in the air, many of our girls are getting “spring fever.” I have been reminding the girls over
the past couple weeks to remember to remain focused on their academics so that we can all have a
smooth and successful end to the school year. I ask that you all help to remind your daughters to stay on
top of their studies to finish the year strong.
Thank you for all of your patience, understanding, and support as we have undergone this recent
transition. Change can be difficult, but I have been astounded at how our students and teachers have
responded and have not skipped a beat. We are seeing great teaching and learning going on in the
classrooms and everyone is stepping up to the plate going above and beyond their normal duties. I could
not be more proud. Our Chapelle family is truly something special and for that I am extremely grateful.
Remembering Deus Providebit…God will provide,
Leila Benoit

Campus Ministry Notes
Easter Prayer:
Christ is Risen: The world below lies desolate
Christ is Risen: The spirits of evil are fallen
Christ is Risen: The angels of God are rejoicing
Christ is Risen: The tombs of the dead are empty
Christ is Risen indeed from the dead,
the first of the sleepers,
Glory and power are his forever and ever. Amen.

th
Archdiocesan 8 Grade Student of the Year
Congratulations to Chapelle 8th Grader Sarah Grosse for being named the Archdiocesan Eighth
Grade Student of the Year! Sarah is an exceptional Catholic school student, musician, public
speaker, scholar, and writer who proudly represents Chapelle and Catholic education. Dr. Jan
Lancaster, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, recently interviewed Sarah along with the 12th Grade
Student of the Year for WLAE’s “Our Schools, Our Future” program that aired through March.
Sarah commented on receiving this honor: "I definitely think that my challenging Honors classes and
hard-working teachers helped to motivate me to push my very hardest so that I can accomplish the
things that I do. I also know that I could never do all that I do by myself. Without the help and
support of my family, friends, teachers, and of course God, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
That may sound a bit a cheesy, but it’s the truth. As well as the amazing people in my life who
always motivate me, I believe it is the friendly, faith-filled atmosphere of Chapelle that welcomed me
in and helped me to find my place."
Cindy and Michael Grosse, Sarah’s parents, also shared how proud they are of their daughter for
this accomplishment: “We absolutely couldn’t be more proud of Sarah, not only for earning this
achievement, but also for being the kind, humble, and respectful young lady that she is. We have
always taught her to be honest, to treat others as she would like to be treated, to help those who
need help, and to work to the best of her ability to accomplish her goals. She is very self-motivated
and wants to try her hand at any opportunity that comes her way. We are a strong Catholic family,
centered around faith and family. We believe that these values are at the core of Sarah’s success.”
As new Chapelle parents, Cindy and Michael are already
actively involved in the Band Boosters and volunteered at
Open House this past November.
Cindy also remarked: “We have been extremely pleased with
the education that Sarah is receiving at Chapelle. She is in
the Honors program and has done quite well. We feel she is
being challenged to her highest potential. The faculty and
staff have been nothing but supportive. From working with
the academics department on finalizing the best schedule for
Sarah’s ultimate success to Sarah’s involvement with her
counselor dealing with a variety of situations that come along
with high school, we have felt that everyone at Chapelle has
her best interest in mind. And the spirit and loyalty
demonstrated by faculty and staff is second to none.”

Congratulations to Senior Kayla Jones for continuing her volleyball career at Sam Houston State
University this fall! Kayla was named New Orleans All District, Louisiana All State, Louisiana
Academic All State, and Louisiana All Star for volleyball. She was also the Archdiocese of New
Orleans Elite All Star for volleyball 2014-15. Kayla has lettered varsity volleyball for 5 years,

Art in Action
Chapelle art students recently participated in the Art in Bloom exhibition at the New Orleans Museum
of Art. The theme this year was "Artful Entertaining," which the students interpreted by painting
artwork by New Orleans artists on table settings.
Art 3 students learned the art of Japanese Sumi-e painting, carefully observing and mimicking the
spirit of plants in Sumi-e style. Chapelle Fine Arts offers exciting and challenging lessons that teach
students diverse techniques and their cultural significance.
Senior Brooke Renton brings fashion and painting
together with her AP concentration which includes
12 fashion designs inspired by nature culminating
in two hand-painted gowns. Brooke plans to pursue
graphic design or possibly fashion illustration in
conjunction with marketing in college.
Students in Art AP and Art 4 were
fortunate to experience drawing using
a Wacom tablet, a digital tablet used
by professional digital artists.
Emerald Gala
On Saturday, March 12, Archbishop Chapelle held its annual Emerald Gala. The evening included a
Patron Party with hors d’oeuvres and libations in the cafeteria before the Emerald Gala with
catered dinner, raffles, and live & silent auctions in the beautifully decorated gymnasium. We are
so grateful for all of our generous benefactors for their continued support. Thank you to everyone
who volunteered their time and energy to making this year’s Gala such a success!
