Linda Barnicott
Linda Barnicott began her career as a portrait artist in 1975. Today, she is beloved and
sought-after for her enchanting portraits of Pittsburgh. Using rich pastel colors, she
captures the unique beauty of famous Pittsburgh scenes with a charm all her own.
It began in 1989 with the now-famous tribute to downtown holiday shopping, “Meet Me
Under Kaufmann’s Clock.” The work immediately won the hearts of Pittsburghers, who
have been meeting friends under the clock downtown for years. From this work Linda
created several series of Pittsburgh landmarks, capturing warm memories loved by
generations. In 1995, she began painting a collection of Kennywood Park scenes and
bringing to life the magic of many amusement parks in the region.
As a portrait artist, Linda has included family members and friends in every painting.
“If you look carefully, you can watch my daughters grow up over the years, starting with
the Kennywood Series,” says Barnicott. “And my husband appears in just about all of
them.” Linda begins each piece with photographs of the scene. She takes family and
friends with her, setting up their posed positions. In staging one of her Kaufmann’s Clock
paintings, they gathered on a blisteringly hot July day, in full winter clothing, to pose for
the holiday image. A driver in a convertible pulling up to the intersection commented to
his passenger, “Now that is something you don’t see every day!”
The year 2010 was a busy one. Linda began an amazing partnership with Wendell August Forge, creating a beautiful collection of
ornaments from her beloved paintings. She started painting landscapes in plein air, traveling across the country and sharing, through her
work, the beauty of our country. That same year, she was asked by the Downtown Pittsburgh Partnership to develop the official painting
of the 50th Anniversary of Light-up Night. Unveiled on the news, it was part of a television special on the history of Light-up Night.
Other notable commissions include the Three Rivers Regatta (1996), Macy’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of Kaufmann’s Clock
(2013), and La Roche College’s 50th anniversary (2013).
Beyond cityscapes and amusement parks, Linda captured career-highlight moments of Pittsburgh sports legends Bill Mazeroski and
Franco Harris. She drove along Route 6 to create a plein air landscape series, “Pennsylvania’s Route 6”. She also spent time in New York
City painting several of its landmarks.
Linda has been privileged to study occasionally with some of the greatest artists of the day including sessions in 1981, 1983 and 2015
with the internationally-acclaimed portrait artist Daniel Greene. She studied landscape painting through various workshops with master
pastel artist Richard McKinley from 2010 to 2013. These brief workshops enriched her ability to create portraits and peaceful landscapes
full of vibrant color.
Her most notable work was with the American Cancer Society of Greater Pittsburgh 1998 - 2014 to create the paintings used on their
annual holiday card. Over the course of the 17 year relationship, more than $750,000 has been raised for cancer research and prevention.
For years, Barnicott’s work was displayed at the Oncology Wellness Institute in Meadville, PA as part of their holistic approach to cancer
treatment. Art has been proven to reduce stress, thus enhancing the Chemotherapy treatments effectiveness. In 2011, she was asked to
be the exclusive artist for the new West Penn Allegheny Outpatient Facility in Peters Township, providing this facility with over 50
paintings. Patients often shared comments such as, “it’s like walking down memory lane” and “they are a wonderful distraction from
things unpleasant.” That same year, Barnicott partnered with Breathe Pennsylvania to develop their annual holiday print and ornament.
Her paintings and collectibles are sold worldwide on the internet and appear in well over 50 regional galleries and gift shops. She loves
talking with her clients and hearing the memories that her paintings evoke. She participates in numerous art shows throughout the year

In 2000, Barnicott received a special Proclamation from the City of Pittsburgh, commemorating her “tremendous contribution in capturing
and preserving many sites in and around the Pittsburgh Area.” Six years later, Linda’s company, Linda Barnicott Publishing, LLC, was
chosen as a winner of the prestigious Forbes® Enterprise Award. In March of 2008, she was honored to be a featured cover story of the
national magazine, “Professional Artist”. She was invited to become a member of the esteemed Salmagundi Club in New York City, one of
the oldest art organizations in the country. In 2013, Linda received another prestigious award, The Circle of Courage, for her dedication to
Pittsburgh through her artwork and faith.
