Whitley County wants you to connect with what is happening around the area. Residents can do so by registering with the new Nixle Community Information Service at www.nixle.com . The information we publish via the service can be sent directly to you via text, email or web message. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle’s website. The service – a collaboration between Whitley County Dispatch, Emergency Management Services, city of Columbia City, city of Churubusco and city of South Whitley – is secure, reliable and easy for Whitley County to use. You decide what information you want and the manner in which you wish to receive it. The notifications directly impacting your neighborhood or area may include severe weather alerts, road closure information, safety warnings and law enforcement updates. Show Choirs Begin Competition Season January 9—Two-Week Progress Reports: Lilly Scholarship Deadline January 23—2-Week Progress Reports January 26—Acuity Testing through February 9 (Algebra I and English 10) City Heat and City Lights begin their competition season in January. They will kick off performances and competitions by hosting a preview show that is open to the public on Thursday January 15, at 8:00 P.M. in the CCHS Auditorium. Following that, competitions will be on: January 24 at Fishers, Indiana; February 7 at Northrop; February 14 at DeKalb; February 28 at Huntington North; March 7 at Homestead; March 14 at Carroll; March 21 at Plainfield High School for ISSMA State. Columbia City High School is hosting a Financial Aid Night on Thursday, January 8, 2015, from 6:00—7:00 P.M. in the Media Center (backup date is January 15, 2015). The directions for filing for the Financial Aid Form (FAFSA) are as follows: 1. Sign up for a PIN number in order to complete the online FAFSA: http://www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/pinindex.jsp 2. Access the application online after January 1, 2015, at www.fafsa.ed.gov . If necessary, attend College Goal Sunday for additional help on completing the FAFSA. Find a location nearest you at www.collegegoalsunday.org or attend the CCHS Financial Aid Night on January 8, 2015, at 6:00 P.M. FAFSA Completion Night is February 18, 2015, at CCHS (backup date is February 26, 2015). EAGLE EYE Page 3 Lilly Endowment Scholarship due January 9, 2015 Lilly Endowment, Inc. Community Scholarship 2014-2015 deadline is January 9, 2015. This Scholarship was established in 1998 by Lilly Endowment, Inc. to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana. The scholarship covers full tuition and $900 per year for books and equipment for four years. To qualify you must meet the following: • Be a Whitley County resident for 12 months prior to the date of this application. • Graduate with a diploma from an accredited Indiana High School and plan to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an accredited public or private college or university in Indiana. • Have financial need. • Demonstrate pride in the community, responsibility, perseverance, self-esteem, and the desire to contribute to Whitley County. through work or volunteerism. FAFSA Completion Night March 10, 2015 ISM Loans will be sponsoring a FAFSA Completion Night on February 18 in the CCHS Media Center. Financial advisors and the Guidance Department will be helping families who need assistance completing the on-line FAFSA application. Just show up any time between 3:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. Make sure to bring all your tax information (W-2 forms) and social security numbers. The FAFSA is due on March 10, 2015. The weather back up date is Thursday. February 26, 2015. 2015 AP Exam Information AP exam orders are due Friday, March 6, 2015, to Mary Thomas (order form is attached). More information and paperwork will be available in January 2015. The meningococcal booster for students in Grades 11 and 12 are strongly recommended by the ISDH in anticipation of inclusion with school entry requirements for the 2014/2015 school year. This means all 11th and 12th graders will need two (2) meningitis injections for the 2014/2015 school year. Whitley County Schools offer Tylenol (50 tablets) and Ibuprofen (25 tablets) available for purchase for your child for the cost of $1.00 each. The 2-hour delays will be the same as in the past. However, if the corporation calls a 3-hour delay, the students will attend school for an additional hour at the end of the day. CCHS and ETA students would be dismissed at 4:20 P.M. instead of 3:20 P.M. on 3-hour delay days. This year’s theme will be determined soon as well as ticket sales (dates/prices). The prom is open to all junior and senior students in good standing with Columbia City High School and Eagle Tech Academy. .Prom sponsors are Mrs. Melanie Bechtold and Mr. Phil Stanczak, both housed at the Eagle Tech Academy campus. National Honor Society, Honors Convocation (held during school hours May 15, 2015), holiday concerts (held December 15, 2014), awards presentations, and graduation (held June 5, 2015). Drivers Education Spring Session The spring session of Driver Education at Columbia City High School will run March 2-19, 2015. Cost is $270.00. Class meets from 3:45-6:00 P.M. Monday through Thursday and 3:45-5:15 P.M. on Fridays in Room 116 at Columbia City High School. The student MUST be 15 years old by March 2, 2015. Visit www.wccs.k12.in.us/cchs/ for an application. TRIMESTER 3 February 24—May 22; (There are 8 makeup days available after May 22). CCHS Graduation is Friday, June 5, 2015, 6:00 P.M. (gymnasium). Graduation Practice will be held the morning of June 5. Honors Convocation will be May 15, 2015, during the school day. Any outstanding balance at the end of the school year may be sent to collections. Parents can no longer pay for textbook fees online through MyPaymentsPlus. Please contact Mary Thomas, Treasurer, for payment information for your child at 260.244.6136, extension 3214, or e-mail [email protected]. Fees vary according to grade level and courses taken. Forms regarding a payment plan can be accessed online through Harmony. Mail payments to: Columbia City High School, 600 North Whitley Street, Columbia City, IN 46725, Attention of Mrs. Thomas. CCHS Dress Code (CCHS 2014/2015 Student Handbook—page 17) “Vulgar, lewd, or obscene language, gestures, and clothing disruptive to the educational process (this includes alcohol, tobacco, or drug related clothing) have no place in an educational environment. Students of CCHS are expected to abide by the following: —No bare midriff —No cleavage (top or bottom) —No “spaghetti strap” or “string” tops —No “nightwear” or underwear worn as a replacement for outerwear —No hats or hoods in school —No holes in any part of the clothing above the knee —No chains hanging from clothing —No gloves or hand wear —Sayings, words or pictures on clothing must be appropriate for the school environment. Length of shorts and skirts—appropriate as deemed by administration—good rule of thumb—longer than fingertips when arms are placed at student’s sides. A student’s shirt will be deemed inappropriate if the neckline of the shirt is below hand-width from the clavicle.” Columbia City High School has a dress code policy in place at Columbia City High School.
