When asked the reason why, he replied, "I drove them all up to the bars, when something frightened them and they stampeded and scattered in all directions. I could not collect them again. During the World War our American soldiers in France marched forward toward the front line trenches with undaunted courage and when they came to a cross roads or a parting of the ways awaited only the order, from their superiors to tell them, they continued on with stern countenances determining in their hearts, "They shall not pass". In conclusion these comparisons are plainly summarized in the words of the poet Longfollow, when he said; "In the world's broad field of battle, In the bivouac of life, Be not like dumb, driven cattle, Be a hero in the strife! We always listen to our teachers Always have our work done Have our books and studies ready When the happy morning is begun. At the close of every year We gather up our memories And leave the school-house full of cheer For the teachers we did please. When we grow a little older We shall remember the past Of our dear old schooldays And wish that they would always last. --Agnes O'Barto CLASS MOTTOS DIQ- Do It Quietly - DIY - Do It Yourself CLASS COLORS --MAROON and BLUE AMERICAN LEGION AWARD With much pleasure we record here that CHESTER SCHULTZ was the happy receiver of the American Legion Award for Honor, Courage, Scholar ship, Leader ship, and Service. This award was made by the William Fish Post No, 593 at Curtisville, May 1, 1936. A fine record, Chester, and we know you will always live up to these ideals. Schorner C.W. Double The Staff have earnestly tried to do their best in putting out this yearbook. THEY WERE ON THE JOB. These people did not quit before they were finished but they worked on to complete this book. The whole Eighth Grade helped to make this little book a worth while memory of our eighth grade days. Our Faculty Advisors were the real helpers in making this year a real success. Page 15 THE REGA EVENTS OF THE YEAR After eight years of work, we are carrying our diplomas, which are the rewards, home with us. Without the guidance of our teachers, and the interest of the taxpayers, this glorious end could never have been achieved. We advise the seventh grade - soon to become the Eighth grade - to work and enjoy everyday of their school life. COMMENCEMENT At last the fated day arrived. We were marching down the aisle we were going to graduate! It was an odd feeling we had, rather sad because we were through, and yet rather glad that we had finished the eighth grade and were going to bigger and better deeds. May 28th, marked the end of our West Deer Schooldays. We had music, we had speeches and then - we received our diplomas. The big day was over. PITTSBURGH TRIP Did you ever see anything like it? That's what we said after we had been to the Smoky City on April 18th. Could we ever forget all the wonders we saw that day? It was one of the big thrills of the year. Every minute was packed with excitement. The next time we get a chance we are going to send our brothers and sisters. It was a happy day when we went on this very pleasant excursion. Page 16 THE REGA AMATEUR HOUR "All right! All right!" These were the opening and. closing words of Major Schultz on March 15th, at 3:00 P.M. when we gave an Amateur Hour to earn money for our yearbook. About 145 pupils were there to cheer and smile at the performers. CLUBS This year we had a number of clubs started in our school. Among them was the RADIO CLUB, which was under the leadership of Mr. Double who owns and operated short wave station W 8 J 0 J. The boys who joined this club learned many of the secrets of radio. Thursday was the meeting day. Another of these clubs was the NATURE CLUB headed by Miss Anderson, and Miss Allsopp. They took the girls on long hikes and taught them about the various things they could see as they went along. They met on Wednesday. The MYSTERY CLUB was organized by Mr. Puff. This club met on Mondays and required deep and careful thought for each and everyone who entered the door or else he was not allowed to remain. Lastly but not least was the PRESS CLUB. Here everybody put his hands and brain to work to put out the newspaper and construct this yearbook. It was a great deal of work but we had some fun doing it and everyone was pleased. --- SCHOOL PICNIC --May twenty-seventh! -- West View Park I -We rode everything -We ate everything — We saw everything - Boy! Page 17 THE REGA Our school is a two story wooden building. It was built in 1915. There are six rooms, each one having seven windows and a furnace. The driveway makes a semi-circle around the school. Two fire escapes provide safety measures. The color of the school is white. The favorite sound around the school is the beautiful peal of the bell, which hangs in the belfry. - Page 18 John Yankovich THE REGA WHO'S WHO (The Election Results) MOST INDUSTRIOUS --- Chester Schultz Priscilla Long MOST BASHFUL --------- Alex Turba Nellie Valance MOST DIGNIFIED -------- Alex Watson Bertha Adams BIGGEST TALKER ------- Andy Gaurrich Agnes O'Barto SILLIEST -------------------- James Trofnoff Irene Vozar LAZIEST -------------------- Anthony Baron Ida Mae Reynolds FUTURE STARS Bertha Adams Alice Divelbiss Andy Gaurrich Walter Jura Pete Karan John Kleja Bertha Leya Priscilla Long Nellie Mikus Zelinda Morretti John Morrone Steve Marsinko Agnese O'Barto Nick Petroff Jacob Pompe Catherine Portka Chester Schultz Florine Tenace James Trofnoff Thomas Trofnoff Irene Vozar Ann Sheridan Sybil Jason Bing Crosby Wallace Berry Freddy Bartholomew Harpo Marx Marine Deitrioh June Travis Ginger Rogers Gracie Allen Robert Young Bob Steele Kay Francis George Raft Oliver Hardy Madge Evans Mickey Rooney Victor Jory Clark, Gable Jackie Searle Jean Harlow Page 19 THE REGA LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the graduating class of May, 1936, being sound and healthy bestow upon the lower grades all of our tricks. For president I see John Morrone in the race, he's hoping someday to run the place. As for Chester Schultz, he'll never enter the doors, unless he's hired to scrub the floors. A prominent lass is Alice Divelbiss, she went to Europe to become a Duchess. Alex Turba and Jacob Pompe are very strange fellows, to girl friends they prefer the gallows. Kick Petroff goes around with a sack on his back, hoping some day to own a big hack. I see Zelinda talking a rest, after sewing the sides of her husband's vest. Andy Gaurrich is a brave soldier boy, but only to his mother is he a great Joy. Nellie Mikus to work she delays, with a boss like Frank Yankovich, who likes her ways. Anthony Baron, to whom life Is hazy, spends most of hie time picking daisies. Florine Tenace, the heavy-weight campion, the big sissy, was kidnapped for a great ransom. Over the radio sings Lawrence Onesi, crazy lyrics come to him easy. Page 24 THE REGA Nick Grigorovlch wants to be an aviator, but he has no faith in a carborator. Pete Karan is a farmer, old-fashioned and true, while Bertha Leya is an old maid at fortytwo. In exhaustion, Irene Vozar slumps on a log, so tired after she feeds her pet hog. And whom do I see as I dream along but John Yankovich, now Principal of Russellton #l. Here he tries with all his might, to teach the children of Anna Spondike. In a large office which has many doors, I see Bessie counting the floors Alex Watson, with a better head than yours, is working In a big office Juggling figures. I know Steve Marsinko ie moving because the neighbors compalined of his crooning. He joined John Kleja and Walter Jura, the great roamers, and at one time, great ranch owners. Florence Batcher is a small dog-catcher. Agnes 0' Barto became a great contralto. There's Nellie Valance going into her dance. The Trotnoffs fix up all coughs. Last comes Victoria Baron in the brightest and latest tin can. Though it's fun to prophesy, On these futures, do not rely, We want to grow as best we can, As we travel on life's caravan. - Priscilla Long. Page 25 THE REGA JJOOKKEESS ????? QUESTIONS ?????
