Our Team Sweats the Small Stuff
When I was a teenager thinking about my future, my father
told me, “I don’t care what job you pursue, just be the best
at what you choose.” His words had special credibility as
he was a pioneer missionary surgeon finding solutions to
treat the sick in Africa without the hospital facilities, medical
equipment or staff we take for granted in the USA. One may
achieve excellence momentarily, but will have to learn new skills
to continue to stay on top. If a man is a street sweeper and sweeps
even as Michelangelo painted or Beethoven composed
music, all will proclaim, “here lived a great street sweeper
who did his job incredibly well”. Our team keeps their
job responsibilities challenging and rewarding by looking
for ways to improve our customer’s experience, improve
procedures, communication,
safety, quality and efficiency. Attention to detail, a passion
for excellence and a desire to serve in remarkable ways has
resulted in our company growing every year without exception. Whether it be the installation of
Wi-Fi in your aircraft, a maintenance
phase inspection, the purchase of
parts or a meal at the Jet Café during
a fuel stop, we invite you to enjoy our
legendary service while we sweat the
details.

FATA Annual Conference & Trade Show
The FATA Annual Conference & Trade Show was held on June 10-12,
2013 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples, Florida. Banyan was
proud to be the Golf Ball Drop
sponsor for this event and we
want to thank everyone who
participated in the drawing. Jon
Tonko sold the winning ticket
(#117) to Paul Hudik who received $3,000. Congratulations
Paul! Our golf foursome, Doug
Russell, John Mason, Bruce
Woodrell and Jon Tonko placed
third in the golf tournament.
During the conference, memPaul Hudik
bers agreed to change the name
of FATA, Florida Aviation Trades Association to FABA, Florida Aviation Business Association. This name change represents what the association is all about – aviation business in Florida. Banyan’s Paul Rose,
VP of Technical Sales, has accepted a two year term on the FABA Board
of Directors.
Everyone at Banyan would like to wish Paula Raeburn, FATA/FABA
Executive Director, the best in her upcoming move to North Carolina
to be closer to family. Over the years, Paula has dedicated herself to
promoting the association and her tireless commitment is recognized by
all the members. We all wish her the very best for her future endeavors.

Luxury Leathers for Your Aircraft
Thank you to Rebecca Hallberg of Edelman Leather for the display that is currently in our lobby. Edelman Leather provides
luxury leathers for interiors; including aircraft interiors. The
aircraft seat on display is covered in Napoli vegetable tanned
leather in a pitch brown color. The 60” Parson’s console table
is crafted of Shagreen (skin of rays or sharks) in the color of
Cous Cous. The smaller side table is Python. A pillow in Cavallini Bianco is embossed in Ostrich pattern with suede piping, and the soft shearling (sheepskin) throw is a custom piece
that pilots love on their aircraft seats. The area rug rounds out
the display and it is made of hide and is Cavallini Tri color. All
of the pieces, except the throw are on the edelmanleather.com
website. For custom interior upgrades for your aircraft, contact
Rebecca Hallberg 954.224.6605, or our technical sales department at 954.491.3170.
The exterior construction of the new FXE
Tower and Base Building is complete.
In July, we took delivery of our very first Hobart 60 KVA / 28 VDC Ground Power
unit. This unit will support the Line Service, Maintenance and
Avionics departments.
Also in July, we put into service our brand new Nissan NV200. The NV200 gets
24 MPG and has 122 cubic feet of cargo space. Behind the Nissan is our Mobile
Maintenance Truck put into service last summer.

Congratulations to Clara Bennett
Clara Bennett was
recently elected to
serve on the NATA
board of directors.
NATA, the voice of
aviation business, is
the public policy group
representing the interest
of aviation businesses
before Congress and the
federal agencies.
“Clara’s knowledge, leadership and dedication will be
an asset to NATA. The entire team at Banyan congratulates her on this and her many other achievements,”
says Don Campion, president of Banyan.
Since 2004, Clara has been the Manager of Fort
Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE), directing the
airport’s day-to-day operations, development and
promotion and administering the airport’s 200-acre industrial airpark, John Fuhrer Downtown Helistop, and
Foreign Trade-Zone #241. Clara has coordinated more
than $40 million in capital improvement projects and
approximately $35 million in leasehold improvements.
These public and private investments resulted in an
estimated annual economic impact of more than $800
million generated by airport activity and a total payroll
of $176 million generated by airport businesses.

Vendor Spotlight - XtraLight
Energy-Efficient
Lighting Upgrade
In August, XtraLight replaced 25 400W HID
fixtures in Banyan’s main hangar with new
140W LED fixtures. This project reduced
the energy consumption of the lighting load
by two-thirds, eliminated maintenance for
15 plus years and enhanced the lighting in
the facility significantly. XtraLight’s innovative flow-thru thermal management system
coupled with its patented LED board design
enable XtraLight to deliver the highest performance fixtures in the marketplace.
For over 25 years XtraLight has manufactured and assembled its fixtures in Houston,
TX. Their philosophy is simple: provide
the highest quality lighting fixture, sensibly
priced, in 10 days or less. Their continued
investment in technology, enhancements to
their manufacturing processes, state of the
art in-house testing facility and their people
enable XtraLight to deliver on their commitments. On time every time, no excuses. For
more information, visit XtraLight.com.

Pilot Shop Update
In July, Richard Haughton, Pilot Shop Manager, and Donald Greene
from our on-line sales department, attended Oshkosh. They came
back very excited and have
some great new products they
will be introducing both in
store and on-line. One of the
new items is the TouchTrainer
from FlyThisSim. The Touch
Trainer is a FAA approved basic
training device that accurately
simulates aircraft performance,
systems and avionics. Pilots
are able to keep current on
aircraft specific instrument
and procedure training. The
TouchTrainer accurately simulates Cessna, Diamond and Cirrus. You
can train, maintain and log time including IFR currency without an
instructor, rehearse WAAS GPS LPV, LNAV+V, LNAV and ground
based approaches, and master G1000, G600, GNS 430W, Avidyne V7/8,
STEC 55X, DFC 90 and more avionics.
A Touch Trainer will be available in the Pilot Shop for pilots to use on a
space available basis. In addition, Touch Trainers will be available for
sale both in-store and on-line. More information will be coming in our
pilot shop e-newsletters. If you would like to stay up-to-date on all the

rescueME PLB1
In an emergency situation, this may save your life. Wherever you
are at sea or on land, the rescueME PLB1 is one safety product,
you’ll want to carry with you. Tagged as the world’s smallest
PLB, the rescueME PLB1 actually fits in the palm of your hand
and when compared to other PLBs, it’s 30% smaller.
The rescueME PLB1 is easy to activate.
Simply pull the antenna out, lift the
protective flap and press the red button.
When activated, the PLB1 transmits your
position and unique ID from its 66 channel
GPS, using the 406MHz search and rescue
satellite network (operated by Cospas
Sarsat). As this is funded by the government
there are no charges to use this service. In
addition, the PLB1 transmits a 121.5 MHz homing beacon and has
a high intensity (1 candela) strobe light that aids search and rescue
in finding you.
It has a 7 year battery life and a 7 year warranty. It comes with a
cradle mounting and lanyard cord that can be used to secure the
PLB to clothing or life vest. While the PLB1 is not designed or
intended for operation while immersed in water, it comes with
a flotation pouch to ensure your PLB will not sink. For more
information, visit BanyanPilotShop.com/PLB1.

Avionics Update
Magnastar Operators Upgrade Now!
With over 1100 aircraft operating with the Magnastar system and a discontinuation of service expiring in December. Operators need to plan
their upgrades now instead of later as the number of shops and available
equipment will saturate come the fourth quarter of this year and crews
will have to explain to the boss why the phone is “out of service”.
Banyan Avionics recently completed an extensive review of the different
upgrade paths and favorable discounts being offered by some of the leading vendors in the aviation industry.
To help stimulate operators to not wait to the last second and jeopardize
their chance of not getting an installation slot, Banyan is offering aggres-
sive pricing for those operators that upgrade their aircraft in September.
“The Banyan team understands no one likes to down their aircraft to
perform an installation and we took the time to study how we can reduce
the downtime to a minimum and make sure customers receive the best
deal and largest savings offered by the vendors,” stated Brian Wilson,
Banyan’s Director of Avionics.
“The Magnastar phone has been a stable system on board these aircraft
for over 25 years, but like any technology the time has come to remove
this voice only system and upgrade to one that allows Internet, email
and voice communication,” says Brian. “Vendors are offering some very
sweet deals that allow you to save up to $ 20,000.00.”

Congratulations to the Banyan Avionics team on earning a 5
Star Award in The National Air Transportation Association’s
(NATA) Aviation Maintenance Technician Employer Award
Program. This award program is open to any full-time aircraft and/or components maintenance or repair business or
other entity that conducts aviation maintenance. The awards
program recognizes aviation maintenance organizations
that encourage and support aviation maintenance technician (AMT) training. The award is based on the percentage
of AMTs employed (directly or indirectly) by a maintenance
organization that participate in qualified training events. An
AMT must complete at least 12 hours of training each year
to be counted towards the organization’s award percentage.
