Comparing Old and New Game – The Legend of Zelda : Wind
Subject – History
Topic – Comparing Old and New
Game – The Legend of Zelda : Wind Waker
Warm Up
To start with mind map on the board all of the things that you would see as you are walking around the
centre of the town that you live in. Maybe even use Google Street View to have a look at some of the
things like lamp posts, cars, the different types of shops and other things. Once you have got a big list
on the board start to think about which of them we don’t think we would find in the past.
Main Activity
Then we have a look on The Legend of Zelda and walk around one of the towns, like Windfall
Island. As we walk around the children can write down anything that they notice that are different from things that we find nowadays. These can be recorded on the sheet that has been
provided, where the children can either draw a picture of what they have found or they could
write a short piece on the differences, it is entirely up to them.
End of the lesson
The children then share with the rest of the class what they have found out and then we will
compare this to the ideas that are on the mind map from earlier. We shall then discuss if
there is anything that we think would have been better to experience in the past compared
today. Looking at things like cleaner streets, less cars and no pollution .
