Catedral de Ciutadella – Ciutadella
The church is fine example of ogival art at its best , and is
notable for the breadth of the nave wich is flanked by six
chapels on either side.In 1953 , Pius XII granted it the title of
Basilica. Located on the beatiful centre historic of Ciutadella.

- Road Mahon to Ciutadella ( 4 km
to Ciutadella ) (naveta meaning burial chamber) that yielded over
100 corpses during excavations in the 1950s.

MOUNTAIN BIKE
Route - Cap de Cavalleria , Playas de Cavalleria , Cala Mica , Binimel.la , Cala
Pregonda . Leaving Fornells in the direction of Es Mercadal , near the crossroads
with Fornells-Mao road is the entrance to the cami de Tramuntana wich goes
towards Cap de Cavalleria where there are some views of the north coast.
TREKKING
Route - Sant Tomas , Binigaus , Cala Escorxada , Cala Fustam , Cala Trebaluger ,
Cala Mitjana , Cala Galdana. To start the route is necesary to go to Sant Tomas
beach , either by car or public transport . Once on the beach, and facin the sea ,
we go to the left ( west ) , over the sand to Binigaus are next to each other , we
will see a path wich follows the coast , now without beaches , and wich leds us to
Cala Escorxada.
Route - Cami Real ( Ferreries- Cala Galdana ) , Es Barranc de Algendar . The
richness of Flora and fauna of Algendar have formed its territory into a nature
reserve of great wcological value , with some plants unique to the area. a stream
of fresh , crystalline water crosses it , collecting rainwater from the nearby slopes
, wich flows out into the river at Cala Galdana 10 kilometres away.

Macarella , walking from Cala Galdana , about 45 minuts , or driving to
Ciutadella , on the first roundabout befote to acces the village of Ciutadella
, take the left road direction to the beaches of south ( 1 hour driving from
Cala Galdana )
Calan turqueta, Es Talaier , Son Saura : Drive to Ciutadella on the first
roundabout befote to acces the village of Ciutadella , take the left road
direction to the beaches of south. 50 minuts driving from Cala Galdana
Algairens & La Vall: drive to Ciutadella on the first roundabout befote to
acces the village of Ciutadella , take the right road direction to the beaches
of North ( direction to Cala Morell ) , 45 minuts driving from Cala Galdana
Pregonda: Drive to Mercadal , take the left road to playas del Norte –
Beaches of North - ( direccion Binimel.la ), leave the car at Binimel.la (
beach ), and walk about 20 minuts to the left ( scrambling over the hills
just west of Binnimel.la ).
Cala Mitjana: By car, about 200 metersbefore to arrive to a Cala Galdana,
you have a road on your left ; Walking from Cala Galdana , from Negran
Square , about 20 minuts waking
Trebaluger: from Cala Mitjana , walking 20 minuts to your left
Fiestas
The cycle of popular fiestas held in each town starts in Ciutadella , with the
celebration of San Joan . The horse is the central figure in the festivities : tens of
thousands of people sorround these noble animals , shouting and clapping to
encourage them , while dancing to a rythmic beat is characteristic of these fiesta.
The fiesta of San Joan is the most representative of the islandá celebrations , as
much for its antiquity as for its great pulling power. It is dificuls to date the
beguining of this tradition , although it certainly started before the Middle Ages .
The caixers ( riders ) play a central role , and not everyone can go to the fiestas
on horseback : there is a strict protocol wich must be observed in order that the
fiestas retain their meaning.
Fiestas and summer are very closely interlink as , following the San Joan fiestas ,
the celbrations in other municipal districts and towns follow on until the fiestas of
Mao , at the beguining of september. Each place has its own special features
wich can be noted if the visitor is prepared for careful observation , although the
horse continues in its central role in the fiesta.
Menorca fiestas are the most popular in the Bealirc islands and power of
atraction increases awith the passage of time.
