Semester 2 Only Translation and Interpreting * Enrol in 2 or more courses per person at once or bring a friend to receive a 10% discount (Both friends receive the discount). $370 One semester of a Year course Conversation $270 Learn a Language at Work IML can provide customised language courses in your workplace. Confirmation of enrolment Classrooms Classes are held at The University of Queensland, St Lucia campus. Details available at www.iml.uq.edu.au/classrooms.html Year course – one semester enrolment Students are welcome to enrol in one semester of a Year course. If you are enrolling for Semester 2, you must have covered the Semester 1 content as listed in the Course Outline. Assessment (optional) IML students have the opportunity to obtain acknowledgement of their language skills for year level courses or equivalent. Listening, speaking, reading and writing skills are assessed. An exam is held during the exam period. A statement of proficiency is then issued. If you have completed at least 75% of a course and do not wish to participate in formal assessment, a statement of attendance is available upon request. During the first 3 weeks of the course we will accommodate all transfer requests provided the level is available and there is a vacancy in the class selected. If you enrol in a level which is too easy or too challenging, ask the IML office about moving to a more suitable level. Transfers can only be arranged between courses within the current teaching year. Refund policy Please choose carefully. Under Australian Consumer Law, after the course has commenced we do not provide a refund if you have a change in circumstances or make a wrong selection. Refund requests must be made in writing. There is a $30 refund charge. If IML cancels a course then a full refund will be offered. Fees are not transferable to another student or to the next year. Course withdrawal Withdrawal only before course starts and must be in writing. A fee of $30 per course applies when a student withdraws. Private tuition and customised courses Individual, couples, friends, groups and business customised tuition is available. Discounts apply for more than 3 people and larger groups. The Absolute Beginner course will introduce you to the French language and equip you with the basics you need to communicate. In our interactive classes, you’ll develop basic skills for everyday use in conversation, comprehension, reading and writing, and begin to gain insight into French culture and society. The lessons will familiarise you with numbers, spelling and pronunciation, as well as basic vocabulary and grammar. Whet your appetite for any of these languages with a short course. If you’ve always been curious about that language and the people who speak it, and are considering doing further study, this is a great place to start. In ten 2-hour classes, you’ll be introduced to the culture and the basics of the language. At the end of the course you can enrol in one of our Level 1 Courses to continue your language study. JAPANESE LEVEL 1 Konnichi wa Brisbane! Learn to speak, read and write Japanese in this introductory course at the IML aimed at the absolute beginner. Study the fascinating customs of Japan as you learn the basics of the language. The focus in class will be on everyday use of Japanese language in real conversations based on common sentence structures, essential grammatical principles and useful vocabulary. You will be taught how to perform basic tasks such as exchanging greetings, asking simple questions, reading and writing basic sentences. You will be introduced to the various scripts, learning to understand, read and write Hiragana and learning to read Katakana as well as a number of Kanji. FRENCH LEVEL 1 Learnt some French before or spent time in France, but still feel like a beginner? The Level 1 course will give you a fresh start, consolidating the basics in interactive classes while allowing you to enhance existing language skills.
