Olympic Peninsula Humane Society
Who We Are
We are the Olympic Peninsula
Humane Society (OPHS), the
only open door animal shelter in
Clallam County. As an open door
shelter, we are committed to
taking in every domestic animal
that is brought to us, no matter
the age, disposition or health
of the animal. We ensure that the animals in our care
receive proper nutrition, veterinary care, lots of love and
ultimately a home.
We are a local, non-profit 501(c)(3), charity with no ties to
any national animal welfare organization.

Our Legacy
The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society has been an integral part of our community since 1947. Over the years we
have transitioned into a progressive animal welfare organization with a save rate of 94% in recent years and a policy
that every adopted animal is spayed or neutered before it
goes to its new home.
Because of our commitment to the animals in our care and
to our community as a whole, we believe OPHS is making
Clallam County a better place for animals to live now and in
the future.
This will be
our legacy.
Meet a Few of Our Friends
Hearst and Jerri Coen:
“We got involved with OPHS by
volunteering for adoption events. We
like that OPHS is an openadmission shelter that accepts any
animal needing help. Often there is
no other help for these animals except for what OPHS provides. We believe in rescue and the OPHS mission.
The spay/neuter program is very
important to us. We give every year and will continue to give
in the future from our estate. We want to help OPHS continue
its work of caring for animals long after we are gone.”

“When our son adopted a rescue dog,
it left a deep impression on us. I had
been afraid of dogs but Titus’ sweet
disposition quickly won me over. Even
What Will Your Legacy Be?
Are you interested in partnering with us to make a meaningful
difference in the lives of companion animals in Clallam County
both today and in the future? The needs of animals are ongoing
and a legacy gift ensures that our organization will be around
years from now to fulfill those needs.
Along with the satisfaction of having made a gift to benefit
animals, with your help we can:
• Establish new programs to assist people and their pets such
as training classes, low-income veterinary services and more.
• Construct appropriate housing for large animals such as
horses
• Expand existing programs such as our Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) in order to provide free spays and
neuters for pets of owners who are extremely low income.
• Create areas at the shelter for animals with specific needs
such as a hospice area for cats and dogs, a senior area for
cats and dogs and more
though our son lives in a different part of the country and
didn’t adopt his dog from OPHS, we know there are many dogs
in our area which need the opportunity to be cared for and
loved so we make donations to our local shelter. We chose to
honor our sons adopted dog, Titus, with a gift to OPHS to help
continue its work and mission.”
Jim and Joanne Hallett:
“Helping OPHS allows us to return
the love our many pets have given
us throughout their lives. Animals
are some of the most vulnerable
members of our community. We
want to make sure when animals
need a place for shelter and help,
they will be cared for with grace and dignity. We value the importance OPHS puts on animal care as evidenced by their having
an in-house veterinarian. We are excited about the future of OPHS
and want to ensure its ability to care for animals in need.”
Your Gift is a Powerful
Investment
Making a charitable gift to OPHS is mutually beneficial. Our
advisors can help you make the most of potential tax benefits and income opportunities. Most important, you will
have the satisfaction of knowing you have helped animals
in need. Giving options include:
• Making a one-time or multi-year gift
• Naming OPHS as a beneficiary of your estate through a
bequest
• Designating OPHS as your IRA or life insurance
beneficiary
• Making a planned gift such as a charitable trust
• Donating investment assets such as stocks, bonds or
real estate
To discuss these and other giving opportunities, please
contact Mary Beth Wegener at (360) 457-8206.
Carol Johnson:
“As an animal lover,
I have experienced
the heartbreaking
sight of starving and
abused animals. As
a young adult, I tried
to help a neighbors’
horse which was
starving. I did not
have the experience
needed to be successful. My efforts failed. That experience
has haunted me for nearly 50 years. As a ‘horseaholic,’ I
have rescued many horses and have treasured them, until
their time came. I was the last person they saw as they
made their way to heaven. That is why I am committed to
helping suffering animals and to improving their lives by
donating my time and money to the Olympic Peninsula
Humane Society. We can all give a little of ourselves!”
