development of hi-tech functional products that exceed the limits of the current lifestyle with its unparalleled

Enhancing the quality of life and creating new demands, the business division’s differentiated products include
the following: M2, which was recognized by the government of Korea as one of the world’s best products
(microfiber combining the high functionality of polyester and emotional value of natural fiber); Aerocool (functional
yarn that quickly absorbs liquids and dries fast); Askin (cool-feeling, UV-blocking, and non-see-through yarn);
Techway (superb wicking ability with soft touch), Aerosilver with silver elements that prevent germs and odor (antibacterial yarn); Aerowarm that controls humidity in clothing with sweat-absorbing, quick-drying functions (light
warm yarn); Aerocool Prizma that combines Aerocool with excellent dyeing function and color fastness (dyed

Hyosung’s Fabric Unit boasts of an integrated production system that covers yarn production, fabric weaving,
dyeing, and post-processing and focuses on developing highly functional and hi-tech products for customers.
The unit’s main products include garment fabric, workwear fabric, and non-garment fabric.
Garment fabrics include waterproof and water-permeable, ultralight, sweat-absorbing and fast-drying, ecological,
cooling, light and thermal, elastic tricoat, and fire-retardant materials. Workwear fabric includes highly durable
and functional worksuits that are often subjected to industrial washing process, fire-retardant products such as
aramid and modacrylic, highly durable surgical suits and drapes, dust-free garments worn in clean rooms, highly
robust nylon, and protective wear and military fabrics made of para-aramid.
Fabrics for non-apparel products include “Finestar®,” a comprehensive cleaner lineup using microfiber. The unit
manufactures and sells lens and display cleaners, clean room wipers for semiconductor and other electronics
manufacturing, and domestic cleaners. In addition, its highly robust fabrics for bags incorporating “Robic™” and
highly durable and protective case fabrics incorporating “Hyskin™” are important components of its development
and supply activities.

Hyosung’s Dyeing Unit leads the Korean dyeing and processing industry and has the best integrated dyeing
plant in Korea, which dyes 2.5 million yards of fabrics annually. In particular it can also process 700K yards of
nylon 2-Way spandex monthly, which is a highly difficult process. In addition to its dyeing process for nylon 2-Way
spandex, polyester 2-Way spandex, cotton union cloth, and polyester fabrics, it provides a variety of additional

Industrial Materials PG produces industrial yarn used in all fields, including automobile manufacture, civil construction,
agriculture, and sports. It is leading the global market with its comprehensive lineup of No.1 products – tire cords,
automotive seatbelt yarns, and airbag fabric. To meet its customers’ diverse needs, it is mass-producing high-strength
industrial yarns, fabrics, and reinforcements including polyester, nylon 66, PEN, aramid, and carbon fiber. It is also

The Tire & Industrial Reinforcements PU is the world’s only tire reinforcement manufacturer that supplies the
complete range of tire reinforcements covering tire cords made of polyester and nylon as well as steel cords and
bead wires.
In particular, Hyosung’s polyester tire cords represent the largest market share in the world. By long-term supply
agreement with Michelin (2002) and Goodyear (2006), it gained global tire manufacturer’s recognition for its
excellence in quality and seized an opportunity for its stable growth through long-term supply agreements.
Moreover, it has established local production sites in many countries including China, Vietnam, the US, Brazil, and
Luxembourg in addition to the Ulsan Plant in Korea to ensure stable product supply and prompt services to
customers around the world.
With its advanced technologies and reliable quality in steel cords, Hyosung signed a long-term supply agreement
with Michelin (2005) and Goodyear (2011) successfully building a stable sales platform. In addition to the Eonyang
Plant, Hyosung launched overseas production facilities in China (Qingdao and Nanjing), Vietnam, the US, and
Luxembourg consolidating its position as a global tire reinforcement manufacturer. Partnering with Sumitomo, a
No.1 market share of technical yarn in Korea.
Enjoying the biggest share in the world’s automotive seatbelt yarn market, the Technical Yarn PU supplies a
variety of optimized yarns used in various industrial fields such as broad woven coated fabrics for roofing and
tarpaulin, automotive seatbelts and power transmission belts, industrial conveyor belts, straps, and threads for
sewing machines. The unit also developed Korea’s first automotive airbag yarns made of nylon 66, which has a
high market growth potential, supplying them to the world’s major airbag fabric makers. In an effort to provide its
customers with new value propositions and growth engines, it is developing and launching new products
including the Super High-Tenacity Yarn (10.5g/d) and Super Low-Shrinkage Yarn (shrinkage 1.3%), both of which
are high-value-added products made of PET.
It has a local warehouse in Cherryville, USA as well as yarn manufacturing plants in China and Vietnam. It is also

Carbon fiber is getting more attention as a core material for weight reduction to save energy due to its
extraordinary properties. Consisting of more than 92% of carbon element, carbon fiber is 10 times stronger than
steel while its density is only a quarter of steel. The application for carbon includes aerospace, industrial and
sports/leisure goods. High performance carbon fiber, TANSOME, includes “High strength” grade carbon fiber
(tensile strength of 4.9 GPa and tensile modulus of 250 GPa) and “Intermediate modulus” grade (tensile strength
of 5.5 Gpa and tensile modulus 290 GPa). These fiber types accounted for over 70% of the total worldwide
market demand in 2012. To satisfy the 10% annual growth in demand for carbon fiber, Hyosung will be increasing
the annual production capacity of carbon fiber for both High strength and Intermediate modulus by an additional
2,000 MT at the start of 2013 along with the corresponding precursor expansions. Hyosung plans to become one
of the top players in carbon fiber production business by 2020. Building on its own successful technology for

The random copolymer products for pipes are exported widely as one of the world’s best products. To secure a
stable supply of the main material for polypropylene production, Hyosung supplies itself with high-purity
propylene from the propane dehydrogenation (DH) process where it has adapted cutting edge technology
methods. From raw materials to the finished products, it has successfully established vertical integration of its
supply chain.

The Film PU began producing nylon films in 1996 and polyester films in 1997 based on domestic know-how and
world-class expertise in nylon and polyester fiber business. The unit is independently developing nylon and
polyester copolymers, which are materials for film products. In 2004, the unit set up a nylon film plant based on
uni-axially drawn film production that delivers the largest capacity in Korea. In addition, the unit has set up optical
and industrial polyester film production facilities in its Yongyeon Plant in Ulsan, and has already started mass
production and sales.
The unit’s efforts and research resulted in ISO 9001 certification in 2000 and ISO 14001 certification in 2004,
ensuring that the unit has the biggest market share in the Korean nylon film market through excellent quality and
stable supply. The unit’s polyester film sector produces a variety of industrial films including optical films used for
FPD LCD production, solar cell films, motor insulator films, and processing to secure competitive edge in the

Established as Korea’s first R&D Center affiliated with a corporation in 1971, Hyosung R&DB Labs has expanded its
research scope to chemical raw materials and products and new materials based on R&D capacities in synthetic fiber
research, the driving force behind Korea’s industrialization. In September 2006, it merged its central lab and production
technology center into Hyosung R&DB Labs for a greater synergy. In 2011, it reorganized itself into five major research

Electronic R&D Center
The Steel Wire Technical Center, established in 1986 for the development of steel cord and bead wire as well as their
production processes, has grown into a research center specializing in steel material. Having accumulated technology
and R&D competency, the Center has recently developed “Wafer cutting wire” used in recyclable energy (solar energy)
and IT (semiconductor, LED) industries.
To strengthen R&D in base technology and core competencies, the Center built a new R&D facility in 2007 followed by
the establishment of an overseas technical center to secure technology for “Global Excellence.” The Center has been
writing a history of achieving the highest grades of customer satisfaction.
The Steel Wire Technical Center is focused on developing the world’s best technology that customers recognize
through creating a stable infrastructure for R&D and securing the newest R&D facilities and skilled researchers. The
Center is also investing in developing base technology for new businesses that will be future growth engines.
