Improvements were made, functions were simplified and we always kept our dealer‘s and customer‘s needs at the forefront. The products you see on the retail shelf today came from an initial idea three years ago. BC 1909 HR BC 1609 /STS CAD can derive my test results “ Ifrom the flash animation and save money, but more importantly – time. In six months on average, a complete virtual product line emerges. BC 2209 MHR ” Damien Wetterwald, Product Manager 2 AT OUR COMPANY, EVERYTHING COMES TO LIFE QUICKLY “We don‘t spend long hours writing extensive specifications,” said SIGMA Managing Director Robin Schendel, describing the procedure, “for us, new ideas are immediately turned into preliminary animation of the products.” Product Manager Damien Wetterwald describes the process enthusiastically: “Using flash animation we can create virtual products that work one hundred percent like the real prototypes will several months later.” 3 DESIGN IS PART OF THE PROCESS – RIGHT FROM THE START Alexander Marcu who is responsible for the bike computer‘s overall design is involved in the process from the start. Marcu‘s involvement is extensive and goes far beyond purely designing the basic shape. He constantly keeps an eye on design trends in other industries and then incorporates the most modern designs into the bicycle computers – always considering functionality first. BC 1009 /STS 4 PRODUCT QUALITY RIGHT FROM THE VIRTUAL PHASE Jochen Piesciek, Technical Director at SIGMA SPORT®, also plays a role in the development phase from the beginning. “It all starts with the ability to measure product quality. For example, we determine specific power consumption limits and define exact wireless transmission ranges,” he explains. The focus is on product quality and not only within SIGMA itself. When it comes to our suppliers we choose only those who are technically superior. Even at this early stage, it is all about quality. SIGMA, it is important “ For to include design concepts right from the beginning. ” Alexander Marcu, Designer 5 THE PROTOTYPE PHASE The first product prototypes are created and tested in the lab and in the field, in other words – on the road by SIGMA employees. Changes and improvements are continually made to the products during this phase too. “We are a company that makes product modifications until the end. We will only introduce top quality products 08 BC 509 into the market. This philosophy has contributed to making us the market leader”‚ declares Robin Schendel. In general this process takes about 2 years – from the initial brainstorming to the finished prototype. 6 QUALITY CHECKS ARE CONSTANTLY MADE First, a few engineering samples are produced and analyzed. If any corrections are made, another pilot production run is done. Again, the goal is to completely eliminate defects or quality issues. Once the product line is perfected, the mass production phase begins. Production begins months before the planned market launch. During this time, packaging is designed, an ad campaign is developed, the website is updated, and promotional materials are created. Three years of brainstorming, technological development, production and market preparation serve one purpose: exceeding the expectations of our customers. We want to enhance the ride of every SIGMA customer with a reliable product that makes them come back for more. 09 Designed for the everyday cyclist ... Children riding State College, PA 10 ...
