COMMODORE’S
REPORT
RANDY MOIR
Harbours just about full, our Shakedown Cruise was well attended,
the Ladies did another great job on this year's Fashion Show, Men’s
Lobster night was once again successful, Johnny Cash packed the
house, Staff old and new are doing a great job, Men’s Day is just
around the corner (don’t forget to support your Club and purchase
raffle tickets) and another Fleet Cruise is scheduled.
There is an amazing momentum building and now that the warmer
weather is upon us you can enjoy your Clubs Million Dollar view on our
waterfront patio, cool off in our pool or sit in our air conditioned newly
renovated bar. There are some exciting new activities being organized
by our General Manager Trevor Sharpe and some new “value added”
concepts being implemented that will make your time at the Yacht
Club even more enjoyable. Let’s keep the momentum going!
Lady Kathi and I look forward to seeing you around the Club.
Respectfully,
Commodore – R.J. Moir

RACE COMMITEE
REPORT
GEORGE MCMAHON
Heh, what happened to our race buoys that we dropped in the water?
Before we get to that question, special thanks to the race buoy crew
of Alan Johnson, Chris Busch, Greg Gaudette, Jim McCloskey, Brian
Labute, Ken Crooks and Johann Loscher. It was a beautiful Saturday
morning when the Race Buoys were dropped and all went well. Until they
went missing!
Thanks to the quick action of Tim Hardy, Brian Labute and Jim McCloskey
they were found and redeployed without any additional cost to the Club.
It’s quite a story - feel free to ask Brian and Jim all about it!
Twenty-eight (28) boats joined us for the first race of the season and
special thanks to Dave Aldous for allowing us the use of his beautiful boat,
Split Decision. Dave was a great host and treated the Race Committee
first class. Thirty-two (32) boats joined us for the second race as Greg
Gaudette’s boat; Dream Catcher was ready for action. It’s important that
we all understand that these guys allow us to use their boats at no cost
to the Club.
Thanks so very much!
Unfortunately, there was not much wind for both races; however, the
season is just beginning with plenty of more racing to come. It’s great
to see such a great turn-out (thanks P/C Denis Blondin for your great
enthusiasm every Wednesday) at the Club to see these wonderful boats
in action. I promise you’ll get to see them during those nights when the
wind is blowing - as these boats are crossing the finish line under full
sail. Our Recorders Stephanie McMahon and Stephanie Eldracher have
mastered the new web site and publish those Race results on our new
web site within one hour of the last boat crossing the finish line. Special
thanks to Rosalie Hebert for going above and beyond the call of duty in
assisting us in setting up our “Race” page. Check it out.
Next up is our 43rd Annual Canadian Club Race Friday, June 12th. You’ll
definitely want to be at the Club as 80 boats sail past the WYC Patio at
approximately 5PM. Come early to get a good seat! It’s going to be a
great show.

BLESSING OF
The
Fleet
Instructions
1.
2.
3.
In order to provide uniformity,
& save possible embarrassment
due to any misunderstanding,
the following are guidelines for
members and visiting yachtsmen
who wish to participate in the
Blessing of the Fleet.
All boats should be clean and “dressed” for the day in their “Sunday Best”.
Suitable yachting attire should be worn: no abbreviated clothing or bathing
suits. If you wish to dress up the crew and passengers, etc. - do so and with
style, it’s a fun day as well as a solemn occasion.
Captains and Crews are invited to join members and guests in the
Club/on the grounds so they can participate as the Fleet Chaplain
conducts the Blessing Ceremonies. At the conclusion of the ceremonies,
personnel will move to their boats and then leave the harbour to
form up for the procession. DOCK STAFF WILL BE AVAILABLE
TO ASSIST IN AN ORDERLY DEPARTURE. PLEASE EXERCISE THE
UTMOST CAUTION IN LEAVING THE HARBOUR AS MANY WILL
BE DEPARTING AT ONCE.

9.
10.
11.
12.
13.
14.
Non-boating members and guests wishing to watch and participate in the
Sail Past Ceremony should gather on the patio.
Captains and Crews should rendezvous in the vicinity of R”DP2”.
All boats should monitor Channel 68.
The WYC Fleet Captain will form a procession, starting near R”DP2”.
The procession will move up stream, in single file headed by the Fleet
Captain, followed by the Police agencies in attendance, boats of the
Flag Officers and then members of the Windsor Yacht Club. Following
the procession will be the craft of other Clubs/squadrons/guests in their
particular groups.
Flag etiquette is to be observed: National Flags, Club Burgees to be
flown as applicable. Torn, tattered or faded flags/burgees are not to be
displayed.
While passing the Reviewing Base, passengers should stand, if safe and
possible, with headdress removed, facing the Reviewing Party to return the
compliment being extended to them.
To ensure safe boat handling, the Captain need not remove headdress
or return the salute. A quick “eyes-right” will suffice.
Refreshments should be out of sight while passing the Reviewing Stand.
The National Flag/Ensign that is flown should be dipped, then held while
passing the saluting base. If unable to dip your colours simply stop the
flag from flying momentarily with your hand.
Immediately after passing the “Reviewing Stand”, Captains will make a left
wheel (port turn) and proceed to the centre of the channel. This maneuver
will keep the entrances to Riverside and the City Marina CLEAR. The
procession will disperse at this point.
At the conclusion of the Sail Past, the Reviewing Party will move to the
WYC harbour to provide the Blessing to vessels remaining at the wells.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
In the event of inclement weather:
Ceremony continues as planned (indoors)
There will not be a sail past.
Following ceremony, Captains and crew man their boats in the harbour
The Reviewing Party will proceed to conduct a Blessing for each vessel in
the harbour.

SECRETARY’S
REPORT
WAYNE PERKINS
This is a great month for me. Summer hockey has started, our boat
is running great, and our other summer sport has begun – sitting on
“Do You Wanna” reading, eating, and oh yes perhaps enjoying a drink.
What a way to live. Come down to the dock and join Lana and I
anytime. There is almost not enough time to write this Monthly Report.
I would like to personally thank all those Members who actively joined
in and participated in our first water cruise to Holiday Harbour for
the Victoria Day weekend. It was a huge success due to the efforts
of Past Commodores Chris Hutchison and Daniel Hofgartner. A big
thanks also goes out to Grace and Mike Doyscher who so graciously
invited all of us to their home on Sunday for a pool party. Almost forgot
to mention that the Past Commodores provided us with a delicious
breakfast on Sunday morning.
We do our boating in the Great Lakes and some of the destinations
involve crossing Lakes Erie and Huron, which can be beautiful or
very nasty and rough. It’s always safer to travel across these waters
with another boat to accompany you. Safety in boating makes for
enjoyable boating. If you do travel alone be sure to file a float plan
with friends or relatives so that they will know approximately when you
due to arrive at your destination.
There are a lot of parties and special events this summer. Don’t miss
out – read your log and note all special dates and times – nothing is
worse than missing out on a WYC happening.
Lana and I will see you soon - at the Club of course.

HOUSE
REPORT
ROB TROUP
I would like to express thanks to the House Committee for
their contributions so far this year, you will see a number of the
Committees ideas around the Club like the fresh flowers, table
lights for the outside patio, condiment caddies, special Drink
Menu’s, new format for kids and Dessert Menu’s, Sunday Caesar
Special, Early Bird Drink Specials. These are all ideas generated
from the Committee meetings.
I would again like to remind everyone of the Men’s Day on June
19th. Please contact myself or Dan to reserve a ticket. The earlier
we know the better; I have to inform the food Vendor at Metro
Beach a week in advance.
You will see in Trevor’s reports each month that he has been working
hard arranging different wine tastings, beer tastings, bourbon
tastings with our suppliers. Please make an effort to come out and
support our vendors and have a little fun at the same time.
