This year's Raku Ho'olaule'a marks its 37th anniversary. Over 100 people signed on to ca

Our guest artist and juror for the contemporary Raku, Jerome Heck treated us to an inpresentation on the historical development of his artwork and himself, followed by a de
and hands on sampling of his unique texture tools. He even let us play with his power to
pictures of him in the saddle and on the tractor at a tender age are priceless. Jerome w

We are very fortunate to have Yukio
Ozaki as our juror for the traditional
Raku category, jurying entries which are
acceptable for use in the Zen Japanese
Tea Ceremony. He and Jerome made a
selection of 93 artworks by 52 individual
artists(including our guest artist) which
are now on display at The Arts at Marks
Garage until Saturday, June 29.
Raku Ho'olaule'a is brought to us not only
by Hawaii Craftsmen, but also by a
dedicated bunch of group leaders who
meet monthly and take on the various
tasks necessary to make this event

June Second Saturday at HiSAM
Team leader Jimie Ramos brought pre-cut wood and the kids figured out how it would g
and glued it. Jackie Lau and Liz Train demonstrated how to make animals and small scu
clay. Jimie also pre threw some cylinders out of stoneware clay and made it into a big c
creature that the kids could add their clay creatures or shapes to. There were about 12
(children and adults).

MEMBERS' FORUM
Second Saturday is a free family-focused hands-on event held at HI State Art Museum m
month an artist or arts organization is paid to present. Organizations use this as a fund-ra
are grantee organizations of the HSFCA. HC has been doing this since 2008.
HiSAM provides the space and set-up gear (tables, etc.), help from our volunteers, PR an
documentation of numbers of participants. The organization is responsible for providing a

The basic fee is $600, which is upped to $1000 if there are multiple projects/demonstratio
that extended activity is appropriate for the expected numbers of participants (which HC h

experience and insight rooted in more than 40 years of w

with us his journey from his roots as apprentice to Tatsuz
