Over 100 people signed on to ca glaze fire their art work at Waialua's beautiful Camp Mokule'ia. The weather was perfec was hot. Eight groups, including a first appearance of the Keanna Fireballs led by Hank joined together for fun, creativity and community spirit. Our guest artist and juror for the contemporary Raku, Jerome Heck treated us to an inpresentation on the historical development of his artwork and himself, followed by a de and hands on sampling of his unique texture tools. He even let us play with his power to pictures of him in the saddle and on the tractor at a tender age are priceless. Jerome w camp too, performing the "hot glove" pull of his work for the amazement of everyone p We are very fortunate to have Yukio Ozaki as our juror for the traditional Raku category, jurying entries which are acceptable for use in the Zen Japanese Tea Ceremony. He and Jerome made a selection of 93 artworks by 52 individual artists(including our guest artist) which are now on display at The Arts at Marks Garage until Saturday, June 29. A Note from Guest Artist Jerome Heck: I would like to thank the Hawaii Craftsmen Organization me to participate in the 2013 Hawaii Craftsmen Annual Ho`olaule`a as the guest artist. It was a genuine and re experience to participate and to share with the many ra enthusiasts associated with our organization the small a expertise and ceramic knowledge I have developed over years. I was apprehensive about the jurying process when origi take on the responsibility, however, I found the actual j photo by Dustin Miyakawa very rewarding experience. As I observed the opening of Raku Ho`olaule`a exhibit it was most gratifying to hear the many comments on the exc of the exhibit. Of course part of excellence of the exhibit can be attributed to the juro Yukio Ozaki for Traditional and myself for Contemporary however we only selected the Jackie Lau and the crew that painted the pedestals and installed the exhibit deserve a from all Raku participants, Marks Garage Gallery and the Hawaii Craftsmen Organizatio event.
