their small screen debut is

And that too, in the same
genre — reality shows.
While Sona, who crooned a
line for her film Tevar, is
seen judging Indian Idol
Junior, Sasha, an incredible dancer, will be seen
judging

dancing
prowess of the participants
in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
Completing the trio is
Sonu, known for his comic
timing, who will be seen
gracing the judging panel
of Comedy Superstars.
While Sonakshi’s show is
on air, the other two shows
are slated to hit the tube

actresses are not too far behind.
In fact, one of them has taken up
vocal music seriously. Preetika
Rao, who was last seen in
Beintehaa, is training under
playback
singer
Anuradha
Paudwal. The actress has always
been inclined towards music and
underwent formal training in
Hindustani classical and ghazal
for three years during her
school days.
She says, “I wasn’t sure if
Anuradhaji would agree to train
me, and when she did, my happi-

ness knew no bounds. She has
been my idol since childhood.
She trains me thrice a week. She
feels that I have the potential to
take it up professionally. I do
riyaaz for two hours every day. I
am looking forward to singing in
my projects as an actor.”
The actress, who was busy
travelling after her show ended,
is confident that she’ll be able to
balance acting with music. “I am
getting offers to host, but I am
biding my time. Reality shows
are not my comfort zone. I am
more at home doing drama on
screen,” she says.

A
new twist in the TV show
Chidiya Ghar will have the
family being thrown out of
their own home. They’ll find their
belongings and furniture lying outside
after returning from a wedding.
Shocked, they rush inside but are
barred from entering the house. Later,
they find out that the house has been
illegally occupied by a builder. When
Babuji (Rajendra Gupta) confronts the
builder, he tells him that the house was
sold to him by Babuji himself.
An infuriated Kapi (Saraansh

and his aides, but it only escalates the

of rain sequences on TV
shows. Almost all the channels are making the most of the
rains to highlight the romantic
angle in the shows. In Mere Agne
Mein, Riya proposed to Shivam in
the rain recently. Last week,
Lakshmi confessed her love to
Samar in the rain, in Dream Girl —
Ek Ladki Deewani Si. In Itna Karo
Na Mujhe Pyaar, Neil is trying to
woo Ragini back in a rain
sequence. In Reporters, Ronny and
Ananya play out a romantic scene
in the rain. The promos of Tu
Mera Hero also show a rain
romance

between
Panchhi and Titu.
LOVE TRACKS
Says actor Aham Sharma, “Rains
carry with them an element of
romance and in a serial, it creates
more drama than usual.” Adds
Shakti Arora, “Rain sequences
have always managed to garner
good ratings for shows. When a
romantic scene is shot in the rain,
it adds a lot of oomph and sexiness
to the scene.”
With the onset of monsoon, it
makes sense to have rain
sequences on TV, says director
Ravindra Gautam. “Basically, it’s
the flavour of the month. Jaise
aam ke mausam mein hi aam ka
mazaa le sakte hain, waise hi baarish ke mausam mein baarish
dikhaani chahiye. In real life too,
people go out on drives, have chai,
listen to soft romantic numbers. So
when we show it on screen, viewers relate to it.”
THERE’S DRAMA TOO
Not just romance, rain sequences
also highlight other twists and
turns in the plot. Like in the recent
track of Ek Veer Ki Ardaas...Veera,
where Ratan (Sneha Wagh) runs in
the rain with a box which has a
bomb, before it explodes and kills
her. Says Sneha, “The rain simply
added to the drama required for
the scene. The storm, the wind, the
rain, all created an aura of mystery and suspense, which added up
to the emotion of the scene. So rain
is not just about romance.”

Rain sequences also help break
the monotony of shooting indoors.
Says producer Sudhir Sharma,
“When it rains, it gives us a chance
to move outside to shoot. It also
brings in the element of reality in
the serial when there’s a rain scene
in the show and it’s also raining in
real life. It makes the audience connect better with the story.”

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING
Kritika Kamra, who just shot for a
rain sequence for her show
Reporters, feels rain sequences are
more of “a practical decision”.
“Most of the serials in the industry
are shot in Mumbai and monsoons
are crazy here. So makers invariably have to incorporate a rain
sequence in the show, if they don’t
tension. Babuji then takes the lead and
tells the family members that he will
deal with the problem himself and find
a solution to it. He believes that violence is not the only way to put an end
to their problems.
Says Rajendra, “The father of our
nation has taught us a very important
lesson in non-violence. And we’ve used
the same teaching in our track — to
fight and get our house back without
violence. We all should learn from our
great leader and apply his teachings in
our daily life.”
Chidiya Ghar airs Monday to Friday
