F
or the last year and a half, I have had the ultimate honor: serving Brooklynites
from Greenpoint to Gravesend, from Clinton Hill to Canarsie, as your Borough
President. Once again, I have the distinct pleasure of hosting a summer of concerts here at Seaside, an expression of my passion for the arts as well as of my commitment to uniting our borough in a spirit of celebration.
Music is a vehicle for celebrating the various cultures and customs that call this
borough home. Where else but Brooklyn are you a short subway ride away from the
sounds of soca music in East Flatbush, the melodies of mariachi in Sunset Park, and
the chords of klezmer in Williamsburg?
Galileo got it wrong: Brooklyn is THE center of the universe. We are the epitome of
cool and hip, the place where any dream can come true. Through all of the great
development we have seen, our borough still maintains the beauty of its brownstones and the charm of our communities. Summertime is when our borough can
boast the most, with some of the city’s most picturesque parks, beautiful beaches,
and extraordinary entertainment. Of course, there’s something for everyone all yearround, from our “foodie” scene and vibrant nightlife to our unparalleled cultural institutions and world-class professional sports franchises; this fall, the Islanders will
join our beloved Cyclones and Nets! Brooklyn has become an in-demand brand,
sending local products across the country and even the globe.
What truly makes Brooklyn an in-demand brand, from Manhattan to Marrakech, is
our people. My focus at Brooklyn Borough Hall is on ensuring everyone of this borough enjoys our shared success. We are building and empowering our neighbors
with the tools they need to raise healthy children and families, and I hope you will

I look forward to all the incredible things we will achieve together. Brooklyn

JT TAYLOR “THE VOICE”
(FORMERLY OF KOOL & THE GANG)
In 1979, JT Taylor was called to audition for Kool and the Gang. Just two weeks later was
his concert debut as lead vocalist. JT brought a unique sound and style to the group that
is simultaneously displayed in his song writing. These attributes made an instant impact
on his first LP with Kool and the Gang titled "Ladies Night," which spawned two number
one R&B and Pop hits, "Ladies Night" and "Too Hot." This LP was the beginning of what
has become an unprecedented decade of musical creativity and hit making success.
JT has been back in the studio recording material for a new album, turning his immense
talents to not only singing and song writing but also producing and engineering the project himself. Though he loves working and collaborating with others JT welcomed the
challenge of producing his new CD from start to finish. The fruits of this nurturing time in
the recording studio have created an album with a dynamic new sound, capturing the
energy of today’s music while holding true to the values that gave him world wide
appeal. JT hopes to satisfy his long time fans and attract new ones, across every genre.

THOMAS
Mickey Thomas is the owner of the soaring voice that propelled Starship through the
decades of the '80s and '90s. With his soulful and compelling vocals, Mickey has established himself as one of rock music’s most recognizable stars.
Mickey made his mark in 1976 as lead vocalist on the mega-hit “Fooled Around And Fell
In Love” with The Elvin Bishop Band. In 1979, Mickey joined the Jefferson Starship as
lead vocalist, after the departure of Grace Slick and Marty Balin.
Backed by the power of Mickey’s vocals, Jefferson Starship immediately scored a #1 hit
with “Jane.” With this new sound and powerful new vocals, the group was renamed
Starship, and continued to record an amazing string of hits, including “No Way Out” “We
Built This City,” and “Sara,” and received an Oscar nomination for the #1 hit “Nothing
Gonna Stop Us Now,” from the movie Mannequin. Other top hits include “Find Your Way
Back”, “Stranger,” “Laying It On The Line,” and “It’s Not Over Till It’s Over,” which
became Major League Baseball’s theme in 1987.
Moreover, every Starship album released since 1979 has gone Gold, Platinum, or MultiPlatinum. Mickey’s stellar voice and video charisma on Starship’s video classics such as
“We Built This City” and “Sara” have become staples on MTV and VH1. Material covered in Starship’s live performance ranges from Mickey’s tenure with The Elvin Bishop
Band and Starship, as well as songs from his two solo albums.

buzz for their incendiary energy and relentless passion.

rock with a contemporary edge, and has immediately garnered national radio airplay and
placements on NBC's The Mysteries of Laura and Aquarius.

EDDIE SANTIAGO
At a young age, Eddie Santiago demonstrated great love and talent for salsa music. He
performed with several groups, including Generación 2000, Orquesta La Potente,
Orquesta Opus, the Orquesta Saragüey, and Conjunto Chaney.
Santiago's career took off in 1984 in Puerto Rico and Latin America as a soloist, forming
his own band, and recording songs including: "Tú me quemas" (You Burn Me), "Qué
Locura Enamorarme de Ti" ( What Madness To Fall in Love With You), "Me Fallaste" (You
Failed Me), "Antidoto y Veneno" (Antidote and Venom), "Tu Me Haces Falta" ( I Need You)
his best known hit, "Lluvia" (Rain), and many others. His fame eventually spread to Europe
and the United States, making him one of the most popular salsa singers of the late '80s
and early '90s. He was one of the main performers singing what was called "salsa
romantica," due to the romantic lyrics.
Santiago has had great success and has earned a number of gold and platinum records,
along with numerous awards. He was nominated for the Salsa/Merengue Album of the
Year Grammy Award in 2006, and his song "Black is Black" was included on the Nacho
Libre movie soundtrack.

Since their debut album in 2004, Salsa group
N’KLABE has been entertaining audiences
throughout their native Puerto Rico, United
States and Latin America.
By mixing a variety of traditional tropical
rhythms and classic salsa with urban influences, N’KLABE has rejuvenated the genre, bringing salsa to the next generation. They
have grown over the years, developing into one of the few acts keeping the genre fresh
and vibrant, while continuing to inspire youth.
