Happy New Year! Forget the gym, why not make it your
resolution for 2013 to get into cinema in a big way at the
Warehouse, Kendal’s home of independent, art-house and
foreign-language films.
We’ll be branching out this year by hosting Classic Silver
Screenings in the main cinema, with showings of Vertigo,
to celebrate the forthcoming release of the new biopic
Hitchcock; Brief Encounter, hosted by the Carnforth Railway
Station Heritage Society; and Mike Leigh’s Topsy-Turvy, with a
talk by members of the Kendal and District Gilbert & Sullivan
Society.
We will be getting adventurous in February with a special
Adventure Lecture screening of the cycling/travel documentary
Janapar, which will be hosted by director James Newton and
star Tom Allen.
To celebrate the release of Quentin Tarantino’s new film
Django Unchained in January, we bring you Quentin Tarantino’s
fifth film from the Grindhouse series, Death Proof, and we will
also bring you Steven Spielberg’s first film Duel to mark the
release of his new movie Lincoln.
We’ll be getting arty this spring with a special showing of the
cult British film Blowup, which features in the work of Swiss
contemporary artist Uwe Wittwer. This screening coincides
with an exhibition of Wittwer’s work which opens at Kendal’s
Abbot Hall Art Gallery in February. An introductory talk on the
exhibition will be given by curator Nick Rogers and film tickets
can be used to gain entry to the exhibition for free.
Our Back by Popular Demand series has a British Isles theme
with screenings of Whisky Galore! to celebrate Burn’s Night
and popular hit The Guard on St Patrick’s Day.
New for 2013 is The Language Club, a selection of foreign
language films which will be hosted by the Brewery’s Adult
Education French language tutor Dominique Pluskwa, with
informal Q&A sessions after the screenings (no obligation).
Love will be in the air on Valentine’s Day when we bring you
two of the most romantic films of all time: The Notebook and
Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The perfect excuse to cuddle up on a
comfy sofa with the love of your life and blub your heart out!
Finally, we’ll be showing two films postponed from last
season: Searching for Sugarman and the critically acclaimed
This is Not a Film, and who could forget our People’s Choice!
screening, where YOU get to choose the film on 29 March.
