Advanced Jazz Program will have the
exciting opportunity to jam with some of
New York’s most illustrious jazz performers
including Ed Palermo, Ken Peplowski, and
Alexander McCabe, from 12:30 to 2 pm,
the first four Fridays of the Summer Arts
Program.

Hoff-Barthelson Music School has
provided the ideal setting for a stimulating,
challenging and enjoyable summer for
over 40 years! The exceptional faculty,
boasting some of the top performers and
music educators in the country, provide a
quality summer experience of music, arts
and crafts, and musical theater for second
through tenth graders. The curriculum
includes instrumental classes, chamber
music, a variety of ensembles, visual arts,
and musical theatre workshops. Students
at all levels of advancement receive
instruction in a program individually tailored
to their needs and interests.

CREATIVE KEYBOARD MUSIC TECHNOLOGY LAB
For Juniors & Seniors
This exciting workshop offers training in hardware and
software technology to participants who wish to try
their hands at the creative process of composition.
Publishing-standard computer notated scores;
the use of MIDI files with software samples; digital
audio through recording/processing/mixing, and live
interactive computer performer setup. The state-ofthe-art lab includes ten Mac G4 stations with Finale,
Sibelius, protocols, Max/MSP, Digital Performer
software and a fully equipped Digi001 recording/editing
workstation. Student compositions will be performed.
Theory background and placement interview required.

WORLD DRUMMING
Students use African drums to explore chant,
rhythm and timbre as they discover song form,
ensemble playing and improvisation. Knowledge of
meter and note values is explored and reinforced.
Participants will explore chord
changes, listen to great
performers, and develop the
appropriate stylistic technique
for each musical arena. Group
instruction and ensemble playing
make this a challenging and
exciting afternoon program.

The study of improvisation and keyboard harmony.
Piano students learn to create melody and
harmony while improving their understanding of
music fundamentals. By audition.
CHAMBER MUSIC WORKSHOP
Open to guitarists, keyboardists
and drummers to enhance their
understanding of rock, blues,
and jazz.

Group instruction in basic keyboard skills for
non-pianists. An excellent opportunity for
immersion in this instrument.
