I hope you all had some time to use your boats as well as give them some TLC. Our cruise nights have been very successful – we have had good turnouts, most people show up at the correct house and the weather has been threatening but not bad enough to cancel our get-togethers. All of our hosts have offered superb hospitality – thank you to Dinah and David Scholfield, Ron and Wilma Jelley, Sarah and Murray Gould, Susan and John Richardson, and Elena Abramova and Richard Macleod. Photos from this year’s cruise nights are available on our Facebook page, here. This year’s boat show at Long Island Locks had great weather, great boats, ran smoothly and had record attendance. As always, this success can be attributed to our faithful committee chairs and volunteers on show day; also, our partnerships with Parks Canada and Harvest House Ministries continue to prosper. We are very grateful to these show chairs: Show Chair and Major Sponsors: Ray Saunders Local Sponsors: David Scholfield Registration: Susan and John Richardson Site Facilities: Richard Macleod and Rick Beaudry Publicity: Mark Krzyzanowski and Judy Saunders Dock Masters: James Bond and Ron Jelley Judging: Murray Gould Awards: Dinah Scholfield Kids’ Program: Wilma Jelley Social: Heather Phelan and Dinah Scholfield Announcer: Al Goodwright Thanks to Ian Wyllie for initiating discussions with Parks Canada for repairs to existing docks and supply of additional new ones. We are now pleased to announce that before the 2011 show, Parks Canada completed an initial batch of docks with MCBC financial support for materials; we have also signed an agreement laying out roles for the future to enhance our show at the Long Island Lock site. Additionally, thank you to ALL of our volunteers for making this year’s show a smooth running success! Our final and favourite outing for the season is the Burritt’s Rapids Run on Sunday September 24. Remember no matter what the weather, we will dress appropriately and show up (by any means of transportation) with contributions to the pot luck lunch and your last tall tales of the summer. www.manotickclassicboatclub.ca facebook.com/manotickclassicboatclub ROOTS & RUNS EVENING – MAY 7TH 2011 To kick off the 2011 boating season, the Roots and Runs evening reminded members of past fun times and plans by MCBC and the Montreal Classic Boat Festival for the coming season. Featured were A slide show about the frills, chills and spills on the August 2010 "Voyage to Lower Canada" (river run from Manotick to the Montreal Classic Boat Show). Thanks to Ron Jelley for reviewing thousands of photos to assemble this show. A presentation (with Power Point slides!) by Jim Potter about creation of Mahogany Harbour in Manotick led to many other reminiscences among long term members. Information provided by Louis Gagnon on the 2011 river run planned from St Jean sur Richelieu along the Richelieu and St. Lawrence Rivers to the Montreal Classic Boat Festival in Montreal Other planned events such as Portland to Rideau Ferry rendezvous in June. Members appreciated the opportunity for consultation and advance notice about club plans. www.manotickclassicboatclub.ca facebook.com/manotickclassicboatclub PORTLAND TO RIDEAU FERRY RUN – AUGUST 13TH 2011 Skies were gray on June 25 but spirits were high: all of us enjoyed the run from Portland to the Shipwreck restaurant in Rideau Ferry. Chris Grant and Jim Potter offered navigating directions as well as stories and history about boats and their families around the lake. Thanks to Chris Spooner for coordinating the event! Another boat has gone by and we lucked out with the weather. We had a gorgeous day with abundant sunshine and a nice breeze. The show was well attended by the public and we had a nice variety of boats on display. Enjoy some photos taken by Mark Krzyzanowski.
