There were nothing fanciful, and certainly no great masterpieces from worldrenowned composers. All we had were familiar
arrangements presented to the audience by our
amateur musicians. Throughout the somewhat
three-hour performance, the audience showed
great support notably through loud applause.

Band Exchange, Across The Causeway
In the wee hours of 8
June 2012, we gathered our excited souls
and crossed the Causeway! From there, our
‘business trip’ (plus a
little holiday agenda
for our overworked
souls) had just begun.

As a group, we zipped around town on our
beloved Toyota Innova which we’ve
grown to love. Besides school visitings,
this car has brought us to many other
places of interests, as well as shopping
and food. Living like locals, we got to
taste authentic street foods introduced to
us by the local instructors.
Yes, the size doesn’t matter—that’s our
conclusion. Although the more the merrier, we found that a small-group trip wasn’t bad after all. In fact, we’ve enjoyed
ourselves over all the impromptu stopovers without worrying for about the
clock—the time was in our hands.

Ipoh, The Hidden Gem
Once the second wealthiest city in

capitol Kuala Lumpur, the modern
Ipoh today has not fallen short a bit in
terms of its cultural wealth.
Speaking about food alone, one of the
best Malaysian delicacies can’t be
found anywhere else outside the old
miners’ town. And if you’re talking
about the people of Ipoh, it will remind you of some international stars
like Gary Cao and Guang Liang– born
and bred in one of the humble villages, they have made it right into
international stardom, particularly in
the Mando-pop industry. They were
not made famous overnight, though.

been representing Ipoh on a national
level during major events like the Malaysia’s National Day Parade.
In Sam Tet and Perak Girls’ School,

There’s zero wonder but plain hard
are always given great responsibility
in leading their own interest groups
such as the Band to perfection, under
the close guidance of their instructors.
The training methodology was anything but tough—these students
spent tens of hours per week on rehearsals, and as a marching band,
much of the time were spent on the
work and strong leadership for such
high flying achievements, which every
single student can be proud of. The
result was showcased during the
school’s 60th Anniversary Gala Concert, which thanks to the local instructors, we were able to get hold of the
tickets and experienced the wowfactor.

Novo Winds once again recognized
its members’ commitment and effort
all these while with yet another Members’ Cohesion activity—Rooftop
BBQ– on 5 Aug 2012.
All in all, 30 members attended this

event after the practice (since
it was a Sunday). The food was great,
and more so the company of the fellow band mates. To top off the celebration, several key appointment
holders from the CC’s Management
Committee showed up to share the
joy we had. We sincerely appreciate
their time
and gesture
in
making
our event more meaningful.
The whole event came to a successful closure at
10pm.

Such lovely repertoire had led to the success of Novo Winds March Scherzo 2012

On 16th Sept 2012, Novo Winds
was invited by the National Kidney Foundation to put up an
outdoor performance at its charity carnival held at Marina Barrage. The band performed a
range of pieces from marches
and oldies, to modern pop
songs, showcasing the musicianship of the band. On the
same day, Novo Winds also
marked this special day for the
debut of the Novo Winds Brass
Ensemble. The group had put up
