From Director's Desk
Brig. Rajiv Divekar (Retd )
Brig Rajiv Divekar (Retd.) is a veteran soldier and an academician. He
had a very distinguished career in the Army which included service
with the United Nations in Somalia and Lebanon. He was a Faculty at
Indian Military Academy, College of Engineering, Defence Services
Staff College and Army War College. He has also done the Staff
Course at Camberley, UK. He is B. E. Civil (Gold Medallist) and was
Head of Faculty 'Strategic and Operational Studies' at Army War
College and a faculty member in Defence Strategic Studies at
Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He has done M.Phil. from
D. A. V. V. University and M.Sc. from Madras University. He has done
his MBA specializing in Human Resource Management. He is
recipient of the "Rajiv Gandhi Education Excellence Award",
"RashtriyaVidya Gaurav Gold Medal Award" and "Education
Leadership Award". In the six years of his Directorship, SIMS has
been rated as one of the best B- Schools in India.

Introduction of Institute
Set up in 1993, SIMS is a premier Management Institute ranked amongst the top B Schools in India.
SIMS is a constituent of the prestigious Symbiosis International Institute and is the only MBA
institute of its kind in India and a shining example of PPP (Public Private Partnership) between
Symbiosis and Government of India - Ministry of Defence since 2002. Its flagship MBA course is
primarily for Defence Personnel and their Dependents with some seats for Civilian candidates. This
ideal mix of defence dependents and civilians brings out the best in both and ensures holistic
development. SIMS has an ergonomically designed and ideally located campus in the heart of Pune.
It provides secure residential accommodation to over 600 girl and boy students, state of the art
facilities and infrastructure. It is truly a "Home away from Home".
SIMS is an ISO 9001:2008 quality certified management institute, one of the three institutes in
complete Western India. SIMS is an accredited "Centre for Corporate Governance" of the 'National
Foundation of Corporate Governance' (established by Ministry of Corporate Affairs and CII) and one
of the few recognised as a centre for Entrepreneurship by Department of Science and Technology.
SIMS encourages and promotes entrepreneurial activities and has a small incubation centre for
student entrepreneurs.
SIMS has academic collaborations through SIU with Leeds Beckett University, UK; Bremen University,
Berlin School of Economics Germany for various academic programmes. SIMS also has collaboration
with IBM for conduct of SPSS certification, with IREF for Certification in Real Estate and Finance, with
BSE and NSE for their certification programmes, and has on campus an ICICI Learning Matrix.

SIMS also runs a full time PGPM programme for corporates on sabbatical and looking for
enhancement in their career as also MBA Executive and PG Diplomas in Business Management, HR,
Marketing Management and Project Management as part time courses for working executives which
is heavily subscribed to. SIMS has conducted customised programmes for Standard Chartered Bank,
Bajaj Allianz, CTS, Indian Navy and John Deere Pvt Ltd. SIMS conducts "Independent Directors
Course" for senior officers of Defence Services on behalf of Directorate General of Resettlement
(DGR), Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
SIMS Faculty is rated amongst the best and have many research publications in top rated research
journals to their credit. SIMS has numerous live projects, consulting assignments and development

Finance
The curriculum focuses on leadership and
executive management development in
order to provide students with the skills and
qualifications necessary to successfully target
market strategies, consumer behavior,
market research, rural marketing, internet
marketing and product management.
Marketing courses chosen for the
programme structure are industry focused
and contemporary. The Basket of electives
including product, brand, business marketing
and various other courses aim at developing
holistic skill set among the students.
The finance specialization is designed to
enable students to gain exposure in the areas
of corporate finance, financial institutions,
investments, insurance and portfolio
management, financial analysis, decision

Human Resource Management
The course is designed to cover the various
facets of organizational design which are vital
for the overall understanding as to how the
HR activities are managed in an organization.
These include motivation, leadership,
strategic human resource management,
compensation, negotiation, business ethics,
and managing change.
International Business
This specialization is intended to provide
them with opportunities to acquire a
deeper understanding of doing business in a
global context. The course integrates
international finance, strategy and marketing
with rich cross-cultural material.
Information Systems
The IT course builds the skills necessary to
analyse business strategies and processes,
identify
IT
related
problems
and
opportunities,
specify
required
IT
capabilities and manage the design,
implementation and evaluation of IT
solutions.
Retail Management
Operations
The operations curriculum focuses on the
design and management of the processes by
which products are manufactured and
services are delivered to customers. The core
course provides an overview of the field and

systems, supply chain, and quality
improvement efforts.
The specialization on Retail Management
caters to the current needs of the growing
retail market in India and covers courses
related to visual merchandizing, store
management, store location and inventory
and logistics management. The students are
imparted skills on opening and managing
retail stores.
Entrepreneurship
The curriculum focuses on dealing with
issues that a potential entrepreneur must be
aware of, much before starting the venture.
It pertains to important concerns while
starting a business, such as making a
business plan and raising finance and also it
addresses issues important to the day-to-day
operations of an enterprise.

Eligibility
MBA (Full-time residential):

A Candidate should be a graduate or a post graduate from a statutory university with a
minimum of 50% aggregate marks. Students appearing in their final year degree
examination can apply but their admission will be subject to obtaining a minimum of 50%
marks overall at qualifying exam before August, 2016.

Defence category candidates should be ward of Defence Personnel as mentioned below.

SIMS conducts approximately two and half months (March-May) pre-induction and
orientation programme. A study material consisting of tutorials on Economics, Statistics,
Accounting and Case Study methodology is sent to a student on taking admission. Faculty
members are available to guide and clarify and explain in case of any doubts. Online exams
(minimum two) in each subject are held to assess the level of assimilation. Prizes are given
to the two students scoring the highest marks. The charge for the programme is Rs. 35,000/(non-refundable) and is to be paid along with 1st instalment of fees.
SIMS also gives access to the students for the Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) online
learning module which covers the subjects ranging from financial accounting to business
communication. These online modules will help students to gain knowledge into the various
subjects of management, before the actual classes can start.

Students’ Achievements
The students of SIMS have been winning various competitions, at state and national level, in
addition to “intern of the month”, “Best project”. The students have won the case study
competition, B-plan, Best Manager etc. One SIMS student has also got a copyright in her
name. SIMSites have been consistently outperforming and growing rapidly in their
organisations. Many are now CEOs and CFOs of big companies. Large numbers of SIMSites
have also turned entrepreneurs and their venture operate all India such as BabyOye,
Smitten, Suhana Masala, 3S India.
SIMS students are equally competent when it comes to games and which is evident from the
various states and national level wins of SIMS team. Research is also undertaken by SIMSites
and students have written research papers which have been published in various journals,
newspapers, magazines of B-School like IIM Shilling, IIM Trichy etc.
Student Council
Academic Cell: The Academic cell looks after coordinating various academic activities like
orientation, guest lecture, organizing tutorials, e-primer to name a few, with an objective of
achieving academic excellence
Alumni Cell: The cell aims at generating and maintaining an effective alumni network. We try
to reach out to the alumni and keep them connected to the alma-mater. SIMS organizes
alumni meets at various cities each year.
Editorial Cell: It is the voice of SIMS. They conceptualize, create and review the in-house
magazines and newsletters.
Entrepreneurship Cell: The incubation centre is a part of this cell. The cell aims at creating
more entrepreneurs by giving them exposure in the form of guest lectures, case studies,
Business plan workshop, mentoring etc.
Events Cell: The cell aims at smooth and successful conduct of all the events being
organised at campus.
Infrastructure cell: It works towards making the life of students comfortable by taking care of
mess, parking and hostel facilities.
IT Cell: - It ensures the availability of internet to all the students along with providing IT solutions.
Placement cell :-It works towards providing assistance in all the possible forms to ensure that the
students stride the corporate world in the right perspective.
Sports cell :- It helps to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and help the students to participate
in various inter college, state and national and international competitions.

Student Initiatives
SIMS encourages the students to be innovative and decision makers and gives a conducive
environment for fostering the right managerial skills. This is evident from the various clubs which
are part of SIMS.
Student’s Club:
There are domain specific clubs such as Infinite (Finance), Smark (Marketing), The People Tree
(HR) and Neosis (Operations) which aims at focussing on area specific knowledge enhancement
for the students. In addition to these there are various extra curricular clubs such as Vibes (dance),
Sur (Music) Aks (drama) which help in the overall development of the student managers. Pranay
(Social Initiative) aims at sharing some happy moments with underprivileged, make one
day brighter, try to aid them and try to show them the right direction. It organises events
such as Go Green drive, Blood donation drive, clothes donation to name a few.
There are various co-curricular clubs such as Library, Women Cell, Connect with SIMS, Production
House, 360 degree, Research Cell, SIMSETT , Brand Ambassador Programme which provide an
opportunity to the students to hone their managerial skill and develop themselves holistically.
Special Award Ceremony
SIMS holds The Special Award Ceremony each year to award and celebrate achievement of
excellence, which is a never ending endeavour for a student and the teacher alike. At SIMS,
we have a system of rewarding the outstanding students who have brought laurels to the
institute in the tenure of two Academic years. This includes appreciating the students for
their excellence in various disciplines like academics, discipline, general proficiency, and
extra-curricular activities.

Summer Project work and Placement
SIMS continuously achieves an enviable and outstanding placement for summer project work
at the end of II semester in companies ranging from SMEs to NGOs to MNCs and
entrepreneurial firms. The summer placement provides a platform for the students to
practice the concepts learnt in the classroom. This also help the students to get PPO (PrePlacement Offer) based on merit.

Final Placement
Final campus placement process at SIMS starts from November/December. Time slots are
allocated to organizations to conduct their recruitment process depending upon their
previous relationships with the institute and the preferences of the students. "Head
Placements, SIMS" coordinates the schedule. SIMS has an enviable placement record with
over 120 top tier companies vying for our students. SIMS offers the best Return on
Investment of 150% to 200% of placements vis-a-vis fees, better than even IIM’s. SIMS
highest package this year is Rs. 18.0 lakhs, average Rs 8.25lakhs. The number of students
who got PPO(Pre-placement Offer) were 27 during this placement season.
